Why is Stadia so misunderstood? People keep bashing it despite it getting positive reviews at Gamescom by those demoing it. Most cite that resolution and input lag is a non-issue, and devs answering concerns that your games don't disappear if Stadia fails should have quelled the naysayers. Are new ideas and competition that frightening?
Why is Stadia so misunderstood...
I like my games to exist in such a way that people have to physically come to my house to take them away from me.
10 new Epic Games Stores is preferable to streaming being the norm.
>People playing Stadia in a controlled environment with high speed connections to nearby servers in a situation that's completely unlike the actual expected user experience report little input lag
You don't say.
>Most cite that resolution and input lag is a non-issue
It's been showcased in literally the best conditions possible for it, which isn't going to be the case for anyone buying it.
>devs answering concerns that your games don't disappear if Stadia fails should have quelled the naysayers
Where? What did they say? Who's going to pay to keep stadia up if it fails?
Because their live showing of DOOM at E3 was obviously faked which means they have no confidence in their product
>Why is Stadia so misunderstood? People keep bashing it despite it getting positive reviews at Gamescom by those demoing it. >tfw living in the middle of the god damn country and shit won't be possible because terrible internet
because these tests are always done under ideal conditions or in a closed environment. the vast majority of people do not have internet plans good enough to stream reliably at high bitrates even without considering latency. then there is the fact that google has a horrible track record with continuing support for their projects so if this dies, all those games you bought will be gone
nice try, cucklord.
1. I don't want even more google monopoly on shit
2. I like actually being able to not have my games on some google server
I, too, cannot wait for Google to restrict access to games that I have paid for as punishment for me being a bad boy and enabling the next Trump situation!
Spancc me, daddy Google!
>go from a wojak to another wojak
>copy
>5 fun bucks have been added to your Google account
But why?
They still have to use shitty convention WiFi to even get access to the server
>your games don't disappear when Stadia fails
then what happens
My internet isn't going to be able to handle streaming - I doubt that any internet outside of those bubbles techgeeks live in will be up to it, and I really want it to fail so that no good games become exclusive to this.
It's times like this I'm glad I moved into my closest urban area.
In an dev AMA, all game data can be exported at any time if you want to GTFO off the plaform
>But why?
Files still are in the PC, so it can be cracked. You can't crack a Stadia game.
Dude I have an idea.
You know how we have this device streaming 20 Megabit per second, right? that's a lot of data
What if we compress it or predict it somehow? I mean most of the data we're sending is of one guy moving across a landscape, why not have the target machine get an idea of what the landscape and the guy moving would look like?
Sure, the target machine would need its own storage space and processing power to handle it, but it won't require that much, and we can cut down from 20 Megabit to like 0.5 Megabit as we just update key info and have the client predict the rest?
>Are new ideas and competition that frightening?
It's not a new idea and it's not frightening because it will be a massive failure. It's mind boggling that idiot developers still think streaming is the future of gaming when it has literally never worked.
>People keep bashing it despite it getting positive reviews at Gamescom by those demoing it
Yeah, I have my doubts. If my experience with Google's Remote Desktop is anything to go by, unless you're in the same room as the Stadia server farms there's going to be 3 seconds of latency and freezes everytime there's any substantial change in the stream.
I doubt it will be substantially different than Geforce Share or whatever Nvidia's offerings were, with its frequent freezes and half-second latency.
Well the servers go down, and the game isn't on your PC/device but you're allowed to fondly remember them in your mind and think back to all the good times playing them. So really they've solved the issue.
Because they were using the system under PERFECT conditions
Of course input lag would be minimal
also, try playing a MULTIPLAYER game on stadia, holy fucking shit imagine that.
Also, how the fuck do they have the resources for this? They can't be making money through JUST your monthly subscription, theirs got to be something fucky going on behind the scenes
BECAUSE I CAN PLAY THE GAMES ON MY HARD DRIVE INSTEAD OF CONSTANTLY STREAMING DATA HITTING LIMITS AND ALSO PAYING SUBSCRIPTION FEES FOR "PREMIUM" GAME STREAMING SERVICES OTHERWISE I'LL HAVE TO SETTLE FOR 720P STREAMING AT 30 FPS. NO THANKS, GAMES AS A SERVICE JEW.
See this
you never actually own any of your games or the physical media they inhabit allowing for draconian drm measures to be taken that allow for total control over the end user
Most people think tech isn't there yet...and google is famous for giving up on shit if it starts to be too hard
Can I do that as soon as I buy the game, and then play the game offline?
Like, can I use Stadia as a way to download games onto a portable machine, and then play those games locally on that machine when it's not connected to the internet?
That'd be amazing if I could, I'd support a streaming service that enabled offline play.
That sounds a lot like save data and personal settings, not the game itself. You'd have to buy the game again.
Then it's just another normal storefront centered around and unusable optional gimmick
It's people who live in Bumfuck, Nowhere who can't conceive of widespread 100mbit fiber availability like there is on the East Coast.
>b-but my internet drops out every 5 minutes
yeah nobody cares cletus
Google employs the smartest people in the world, I think they may have researched this a little before spinning up a business around it.
Haha, yeah, why would anyone be concerned about trusting Google to maintain and support a service? killedbygoogle.com
>Why is Stadia so misunderstood?
Stadia is not misunderstood. Its because people understand what it is that they hate it.
Also:
>nobody ever got fucked by google when they closed their other services
Devs saying your games wont disappear is the same as nothing.
>Also, how the fuck do they have the resources for this? They can't be making money through JUST your monthly subscription, theirs got to be something fucky going on behind the scenes
It's a google project, they don't have to make money as long as there's some pie-in-the-sky optimal outcome where nobody owns a xbox or playstation anymore. And the retards running the show really believe that's going to happen.
>The games you buy on Stadia are yours to play. From day one we’ll support Takeout, so that you can download your game metadata, including saves if you want to.
>metadata
Oh boy, I lost all my games, but at least I have all my metadata. Even saves, wow! Can't play them, but look at all my cheevos!
No its always online
Man, thank god im a jaded boomer and i don't care about videogames anymore, you guys are fucked tho, sorry
Wow ok well that's garbage then
You don't even have to pay the sub. The sub is only if you want free games, 4k and hd sound shit. You can pay 0 sub and still get 1080p, 60fps
Idk what your point is. Everyone playing multiplayer would still be running on their datacenter. It's likely devs pay a % on sales to the platform, just like Steam
>they'd never abandon something this high profile
>big soulless corporation owning not only your games but also your hardware
damn...... that sounds pretty poggers pogchamp if I do say so myself......
after nintendo closed down the wii shop I have lost all trust in consoles digital services so buying a digital only console is out of the question for me
>We get this a lot. I hear you. Moving to the cloud is scary. I felt the same way when music was transitioning from files to streaming. I still have all my old CDs in the garage… although it's hard to find a CD player these days :)
>The same happened to Movies and Photos and my Docs and other files… And it’s great! Games are no different. Eventually all of our games will be safely in the cloud too and we'll feel great about it. We’ve been investing a ton in tech, infrastructure and partnerships over the past few years. Nothing in life is certain, but we’re committed to making Stadia a success.
Stadia haters BLOWN THE FUCK OUT. Have fun living in the past, losers.
>Google employs the smartest people in the world
No, Google employs women and minorities.
They employ anyone that can pass an interview loop, which is not you
>I felt the same way when music was transitioning from files to streaming.
Music streaming is fucking ass too what kind of argument is that
>despite it getting positive reviews at Gamescom by those demoing it
Why am I trusting vetted shills, OP?
streaming is great, well at least psnow is, if you haven't tried it you should.
>streaming
>games as service bullshit
Besides not owning any of your games, and all the exclusives being lost once google kills the service, it doesn't work.
>Not owning your games
>Mods R.i.P
>There will allways be input lag unless you have a insane conection and live near goggles server
>no internet for whatever reason = no "console"
Thats a nop from me.
Google:
>Competitive gaming latency won't be an issue because everyone's streaming computer will be int he same building as the game server's computer
Also Google:
>Everyone will have a server near them to stream from
So unless you live in the same county as everyone you're playing against, somewhere along the line data is being sent over a long distance, effectively bringing it back to any old regular ass dedicated game server but now with some input lag and video compression sprinkled on top.
Which ensures that people support Google's vision and goals, which is a world that won't allow the next Trump situation and which instead promotes more fairness in regard to womens' pay and positions.
"you can't live up to values which we define" means nothing if your values promote white genocide, senpai. It's white people that maintain the internet hubs and electricity stations that Stadia relies upon.
Did you buy their last console?
Did they really say this? I'm going to need a source.
>although it's hard to find a CD player these days :)
Who the fuck is he trying to fool?
>my country so shit it doesn't even show up on the list
Fuck Australia and Fuck the NBN.
Maybe because the concept of streaming games scares the ever loving shit out of me? Here's your unbeatable DRM.
Hmmm wouldn't that bring inaccuracies if you make too many predictions?
I'm not even sure what you're trying to say, other than some vague brainwashed /pol/ shit, basically proving my point about interviews
1.fuck she's hot
2. GLASS wasn't even heavily advertised. It was always an in development spectacle that no one really cared about.
Stadia was a big enough push by Google to say that they're confident enough to stay with it for the long run. I don't think people realize how bad it would be for their reputation of this failed. They aren't stupid (most of the time)
>Why am I trusting vetted shills, OP?
Because Google thinks that Yea Forums is fucking stupid and will fall for blatant propaganda.
they haven't been like that in years
>I'm not even sure what you're trying to say, other than some vague brainwashed /pol/ shit,
I'm saying Google doesn't care about understanding its audience, and will openly belittle the very people they're trying to market to.
You have failed your job. Well done. Maybe your interviewer should've hired someone with stronger empathy with the customer.
>gamescom
There's no way it isn't set up in the most optimal conditions possible. Let's see how it runs in the home environment.
>I don't think people realize how bad it would be for their reputation of this failed. They aren't stupid (most of the time)
Yeah, so what? They'd stop using the internet, or looking at ads, or however google makes their money? Literally who cares. Google already has a shit reputation for being mega-evil, but they don't give a shit. They don't have to impress customers or investors, just their direct bosses.
Are you seriously implying they didn't do extensive market research to establish the total addressable market (ie. people with 35mbit connections or higher) for the product beforehand?
>GAMES AS A SERVICE JEW
GAAS the jew?
>this is what buycucks actually belive
I'm implying you're a bot replying to talking points with obvious scripts.
Check this out: Climate change hoax Sandy hook.
I fucking hate any speed measurement that uses megabits. That shit is so dishonest.
>what is lag
>what is compression
>what is required download speed
user, there are lots of areas that don't get 20MBpS internet, that means they won't be streaming at even 1080p for video or 5.1 for audio. At 10MBpS you're getting 720 at most with stereo audio. So for a large percentage of the population the Stadia is on par with the Xbox 360 (with shittier audio) and requires a constant internet connection.
You're asking people to buy your console and pay more for their internet (going to 20MBpS) to get visuals on par with the PS3/XB360. If they want to play games that look like current graphics they then need to pay for a Stadia Pro membership and need to up their internet again to 35MBpS.
Oy vey!
I want it to fail simply because it is Google. If Nintendo was launching the exact same service I'd want it to succeed.
Every country that can't do it is a country that kills the streaming services
This.
Someone post the Assassin's Creed WebM
Dude, Nintendo is more evil than Google.
Japanese Disney. They shut down any attempt fans make to improve their products, purely because they don't want the fans to be anything more than consumers.
>Le bots in mai 4chins shilling vidiya gaems lelelel
This desu
>people comparing it to console/PC games
>not comparing it to mobile games
Are you guys fucking retarded? Stadia isn't trying to be Gamefly, they're trying to steal the mobile market. Stadia will deliver console-quality games at 720p with a few hundred milliseconds of input lag. Compared against PC/console, that sounds like total shit. Compared to trashy smartphone games, it's a real competitor. Stadia will succeed and that's a good thing.
>Dude, Nintendo is more evil than Google.
Sure, Google has it's tendrils pushed into the lives of billions of people, but Nintendo shut down a fan project so they're totally more evil.
I don't want to rent a license to access a game.
Game streaming already exists and it's not that good.
The infrastructure for most places globally just isn't up to it.
Google still actually hasn't addressed some major concerns and criticisms like ownership of titles, mods etc.. so it's not surprising that people are reluctant to go all in.
Nintendo trying to manipulate elections when
Stadia is fine for online-exclusive games like MMOs, I'll probably use it if XIV gets a port. PSO2 already works like that on the Switch anyway.
>Stadia will take over mobile, by providing a service that isn't mobile.
Pretty dumb opinion, imo.
