Thats good for its time retard. Gaming was that big as today.

It had a way to customize the opening. That was really cool. You could make it all Voldo if you want.

>1 million copies on a dead console
Sounds like success for me.

Yeah, up until 2010 it was considered the pinnacle of fighting games & up there with OOT, FF6, Super Metroid, ALTTP & Chrono Trigger for best games of all time

The series has had its ups and downs but despite the reused assets and underwhelming singleplayer shit it's the best it's ever been with VI.

Stop replying to yourself and take your meds.

It was a fantastic game in it's own right and the Dreamcast port is notable for being one of the first arcade perfect ports of a fighting game and one of the first online fighting games with the Japanese version.

Soulcalibur is a great game, I'm telling you to stop posting on Yea Forums all day and do something else with your life

You're talking about a million copies sold for a launch game. A fighting game no less. In 1999. Also take into consideration that Soul Calibur was developed for arcade and then remastered for Dreamcast later, meaning development costs weren't as high as a game that was developed from scratch.

I like playing as nunchuck man cause he was fun and girls were hot, simple as

it took the arcade version, drastically improved the graphics and filled the game to the brim with extra content

seems like every other fighting game now releases on console first, and barely has the minimum and fucking dies

Dreamcast is overrated. It became a fucking meme.

Good for its time, Soulcalibur 2 is better and its why we don't bother with this entry anymore.

I bet you have never held a dreamcast controller in your hands little boy.

Speak for yourself. I still go back to the soul filled extras section of SC1 just to check out the fan art gallery and other content for fun. 2 is best vs experience though.

As much as I adore SCVI, the simpler designs in SC1 are just the fucking best. I also really hate Astaroth's body in that game -- all of his weight is on top and he has tiny little midget legs and it's really fucking stupid, just so they can have his massive leg armor work with CaS.

Look how well proportioned he is there. Fuck me.

Yes, at the time it was literally everything you could want in a fighting game -- it was innovative, technical, accessible, had lots of singleplayer content, beautiful graphics, fantastic character designs, an interesting story, lots of stages, etc. etc.

I think SCVI is the closest I've felt to that game, but I am constantly reminded of its limited budget unfortunately. Hopefully Season 2 cleans up a lot of those issues.

I'm pretty sure 1m copies was a lot for a DC game. Apparently it looked absolutely amazing for it's time, but I never even saw it until after I'd played sc2 so it wasn't that impressive.

I'm happy sc6 is good, love this series.

Each character even had their own unique stage, something that most fighting games lack, especially SC6

The game was graphically mindblowing for 99 and how the soundtrack is still 10/10

You never go back to 1 because 1) everyone seems to have started with 2, 2) SC1 never got good HD treaments only ports with missing content which makes SC1 complete package still a DC exclusive.
Only 2 got a good HD treatment and even so it could have been better, like the online. 3 also needs a HD version with the arcade version but we get jack shit

for its time it was the coolest, funnest, highest tech fighter there was, and it was an upgrade/remaster from the PSX-level graphics of the arcade to the DC which was the most advanced console at the time

It doesnt seem they will add much new stages. Maybe if they added an option for all stages having wall/cage or ringouts it could help to give some variation. Or changing the size of them since a couple are ridiculous small.

I dont know what they did in 2, but some face models were worse than 1, like Sophitia that in 2 seemed to have a potato face and nose.

Do you even know how revolutionary this game was when it released? Graphically and content wise for a fighting game? It even holds up until this day

Soul Edge, 2 and 3 are great.
The SC games got bad as soon as they tried to pander to a wider audience. Fighting games, similar to strategy games just don't sell as well as platformers or mobas. But SC is the closest hack n slash will get to a fighting game. DMC fans fucking love SC because of that

It was released in 1999, when selling 250,000 was a rousing success. Mostly because games cost 1/50th to make then as they do today. Also sold on a system that only the "hardcore" bought, because by then the plebs hated SEGA.

Fuck my brother and I had so much fun with Soul Calubur and Power Stone 2. Those where the days

>The SC games got bad as soon as they tried to pander to a wider audience
?
I'm not sure what sc4-6 did to pander that wasn't being done before.

Yeah, stages are definitely where I feel the budget the most. I just want more that actually make sense for individual characters -- it doesn't have to be all of them but right now about half the stages are generic settings and two of the dedicated ones are for guests which really sucks.

I'd love to have some places that feature in the context of character stories -- the Money Pit, maybe some location inside the Aval organization, etc.

For what it's worth, they have said they're going to try and add more but can't commit yet. They want one for Haohmaru and will at least be adding variations on existing stages (that much is confirmed) but did say they want to do more if possible. I'd personally happy pay for a dedicated stages pack if that's what it took.

I'd kill for a remaster of sc3 AE. But maybe bamco thinks it would be too much work to merge the AE gameplay changes with the base game's codebase (since IIRC only the console version had the singleplayer stuff)

someone already merged sc3ae code with the home version
i think all of it worked besides ivy

Honestly why is this still stuck on two dead consoles? Is it that much to ask for a release on pc or something with online

The plebs didnt even knew Dreamcast was a thing. Some of my classmates thought the last "SEGA" was MD/Gen

>Power Stone 2
>it was supposed to have online
>it got scrapped because Dreamcast would die in months
FUCKING HELL.

Didn't SC2 have a shitload of extras too.

>Each character even had their own unique stage, something that most fighting games lack, especially SC6

I really fucking miss this in fighters. Ever since SF4, it seems to just not be a thing anymore.

With 2 they started with more generic stages, which is fine if they are only a couple stages while the majority are for individual characters. But 3 was also like that. Cant say for 4 since i barely touched that game and ignored 5 because of the new cast

1 was magical on that regard. The way you unlocked new characters and then new stages like Cervantes, Siegfried and Rock's stage it was something else.

This theatre mode was great. Made me wish Maxi used the 2 nunchucks instead of 1

Games started dropping it as early as Tekken 4

But they do even worse, they barely add stages in the first place. It seems 6 or 7 are enough and then new ones for guests characters, or like SF that dlcs every fucking stage for ridiculous prices.

>> Would be considered a commercial flop
without some exceptions, game development was much less expensive back then. 1 million on a 9~10 million install base was pretty good

I still don't know what was so off about 4 but man it was a chore to play. Like you, I never bothered with 5.

6 is so fucking good though. I honestly think I'll be coming back to it for years -- it's why I hope the remaining Season 2 characters are Aeon, Hwang and Setsuka or Hilde, to mostly round out SC1 and add a unique style.

I also really hope EM makes it in as free or cheap DLC. The game sorely needs a mimic.

Wait what really? Where?

I was born in 2000 & still have this in my top 5 games

t-that means you care for me right?

The lack of Lizardman/Aeon is unironically my biggest problem with SCVI, he's my nigga and I can't accept him being left out the game

He can come in s3, we need swordgook, hilde, and setsuka first

Amazing graphics for the time. Unbelievable graphics. Great gameplay and characters. Still extremely playable to this day. Excellent game. Played it so much. I really gotta think that kid from elementary school that let me borrow it and just let me have him.

>Kilik! Was seriously wounded...but the soul still burns...
>YooooooooooUUUUUUUU WIN!
>versus, IN FER NO!
>BATTLE ONE
>FIGHT!

fuck im gonna rev it up right now
oh, Grade A soundtrack too

Bruh, I think Season 3 is a pipe dream right now. Season 2 just barely got green lit before it was announced. We need to get the original roster in ASAP or there's a good chance they won't make it in at all.

Not to mention, I agree with that he's a glaring omission from the SC1 cast, especially since he has a unique style he can bring from SC5.

He also factors into the story quite a bit so it's really weird that he's not actually in the game.

It wasn’t arcade perfect but far better than the arcade version.

And yea this sort of thing was unheard of back then.

sorry guys but Lizardman is literally an available "race" during character creation. they arent gonna make him

>was it really good? I mean look at those sales!

You fucking retard.

And Humans are available race in CaS as well. They added Lizardman as a race so they could have Lizardmen attack you in various story modes.

The story related Lizardman actually has unique moves not available in the normal Sophitia moveset but he doesn't have a complete style. They definitely had a mind to add him but obviously not the time/budget.

EM and Lizardman/Aeon should be free ffs. The last one was clearly meant to be on the base game but for some reason it was ruled out. I still hope Rock is a thing.

Yeah, 6 is good, but I still dont like RE(that will be changed in S2 with no cutscene, thank god), dont like supers in a SC and how SCharge locks some moves. I would remove SCharge and make them waste gauge like some of Yoshimitsu's moveset

Charging stages on their own seems like the dumbest shit and only extreme jews would do it. A stage is strictly cosmetic and just to save your eyes from looking at the same shit over and over and shouldn't be charged at all. A costume is one thing, but treating stages like that you might as well just give us the training room and wonder why everyone is bitching at you.

I want Lizardman, but I want Hwang/Setsuka/Hilde more.

I'd be happy if Lizardman got added as a bonus character since it would just be finishing the moveset he had from story mode.

WHERE THE VOLDO CHADS AT?
