Why is Lysithea so mean to Marianne?

She's just frustrated that she doesn't get her shit together since Lysithea herself is basically working herself to death with the little time she has to live. So her genuinely good advice comes across as a bit hostile. It's how her C supports generally go.

I agree. I always felt Explore should have been something that happened regardless, and after exploring and talking to people, THEN you chose Seminar or Battle, and that's how every day off would go. Making Explore its only option, I agree, felt super jarring.

I think the Wheel of Time should have gameplay repercussions, like you start fucking with time itself and introduce instability in a way that can cause extreme negative outcomes to possibly happen the more you use it, a bit like hacking in the original .hack quadrilogy.
Keep battalions but just add more possible gambits, and make enemies use them often too.
Adjutants are a weird area but I think it'd be helpful if you could tweak them or if they got pair-specific bonuses
Also, maybe make terrain changes that affect how different gambits and battalions operate

Agree with all except for make enemies use gambits more often. Enemies use them plenty in 3H and they are the most time-consuming and boring and irritating thing to deal with. I'd actually prefer gambits go away if I had to pick between keeping or losing them.

The only changes that need to happen is the game needs to be harder. And get rid of rewinding time. It just promotes lazy play like it has for me. Other than that I think the game is perfect.

I really liked that explore didn't happen every week. I hated having to run around the monastery. I'd do it once a month to get everything done and then just do battles the other weeks. You get more than enough skill points naturally.

It only feels so unnecessary because you can just roll the mage girls as Warlocks while leveling up their Riding and Lance skills in seminars and then make them a Dark Rider with a Master Seal. They gender lock the two developmental dark mage classes but make the final one accessible by all.

I fucked up my phrasing on the post you're responding to. What I think would be better is that instead of starting each week off with Byleth staring at a board, have him already be in the Monastery. And you can run around a bit each week and then end the day with a Seminar or Battle, instead of having to fuck the pacing up by talking to everyone in the entire school 1 day a month.

The problem isn't enemies using gambits its that when they do it almost never lands. I don't mind watching the animation when I'm worried about it hitting me and fucking up my advance or hurting several of my units but when all its going to do is miss I'd rather not waste time watching another mob of mooks run past my units.

Limited supports sucked, and they don't give a big advantage in 3H anyway. Just leave them for lorefags, limits suck and generally force the player to play through multiple times just to see important characterization.

Honestly, with how early you can get stride, they aren't THAT bad in this regard. They only suck in ltc compositions, but in those you're just going to run horses and fliers no matter what.

Everything else you mentioned is mostly right. Even though I like divine pulse, fuck soft resetting every time rng fucks me, especially with how easily certain bosses can one shot you in this game with a lucky crit.

Anyway, controversial opinion incoming, but one of the biggest things I would like to see ISIS try moving forward would be the removal of classes almost entirely. Keep a spiritual successor in some form for the sake of skill progression, but otherwise I don't see why I can't have a heavily armored unit that also flings spells, or why I can't just go full foot soldier spear autist from the start of the game till the end, let alone go hybrid the entire game.
Also bring back daggers, they were way better than fist weapons.

I'd like to option to do things like guardening, eating dinners, and faculty training from the menu. Sure running around seeing what people have to say at the start of the month is fine but traveling all over kingdom come every week to raise everyone's motivation and level my skills is annoying.

Enemy unit recruitment wasn't complicated, it was just a lot more immersive and fun as opposed to the game just handing me all my units.

As for your second point, that's sort of what I mean. Limited supports only to an extent. I think the GBA games restricting you to 5 conversations was horrible. I just also don't want every single character to be able to support every single character.

I agree. They can stay as exploration exclusive activities, if need be, but at least let me access them all from my room or something, hate having to wait on several loading screens just to do everything in a timely fashion.
Would also like more activities for exploration as well, really found myself running out of things to do in late game. Adding more activities like the hymns would be a great starting place, as would letting said activities boost motivation.

That one would be tough to get behind. It has its ups and downs. Sort of like a controversial opinion of my own. Drastically reduce the playable units. I'm doing my 3H runs only allowing myself 1 recruit from another class, and it's been FANTASTIC using ALL my units EVERY fight. I hate benching units and reaching the endgame with only a handful of units I give a shit about. Being forced to develop relationships and attachments to every single unit because they're all usable and I don't have to pick and choose felt great.

Go for Claude. I did Hilda with Lorenz on my Golden Deer playthrough and it was kinda lame. They aren't a super great fit anyway.

NG+ needs more features

You can SORTA do that first one. Your Renown carries over and you can spend it leveling skills for any of your units. And you can also spend any Renown you earn from quests on it.

I realized too late into my NG+ run of GD what a big mistake it was recruiting all of the characters I liked from playing BE and BL. Pre timeskip and I have almost the entirety of both other houses, a shit ton of benched, etc. Trying to softlock myself into only sticking with the original GD crew now but it's making my eye twitch how all my other non-original units aren't keeping up with levels now because of it

The experience bonus from the statues make it very easy to rotate through a good amount of characters.

Not even just enemies, more recruitment in general. The great thing about this isn't just the gameplay ramifications, but it also helps give these characters stronger and clearer motivations. Retainers or students or whatever fight just because they're there. They just happen to have a contract. Characters you recruit during the course of the game fight because they have their own reason to fight. 3H's characterization covers this topic, but older games did more with less.

Especially in 3H, I thought it'd be cool if it ran on a monthly basis, rather than by map. Or you could rest to restore uses. They could've iterated on it over Echoes, but unfortunately they didn't.

Although I agree, I'm more torn on this. Restricted supports makes it feel like characters are actually growing and changing. Seeing the same character arc occurring several times is weird. In 3H, so many A ranks are romantic, it feels like the students are massive swingers. On the other hand, I like getting so much content in a single run. It's quite nice.

How about stuff like the movement skills in FEH? Wings of Mercy, Guidance/Ground Orders and stuff that lets them teleport around allies and protect them.

I agree with this alot. I understand the argument that it's nice to have to prevent resets, getting crit at the end of a level, or to see different bits of dialogue but this does nothing but make the game easier and lets you play like a retard without having to worry if a unit dies because you can just rewind time for like the 13th time. I personally would rather see it gone in Classic modes moving forward and keeping it to casual mode but ideally you'd balance this around having only a fixed amount of rewinds per playthrough depending on difficulty and mode. On the subject of classic remove those red lines for classic playthroughs.

One thing I'd like to complain about is gambits. Whilst they're a nice addition and definitely add to the game I feel like they've got too much going on for them. Plus stats, debuffs enemy, stops their movement, some have huge range to add to all that and are cheap as fuck to replenish. I'm not sure what I'd really suggest to change about this but I feel like if you nerf it too much it would be useless.

I don’t think I have ever seen a non-healing adjutant do anything useful. The guard ones don’t actually block double attacks, they just reduce the damage the double attack does by like 2 damage. And I don’t think I have EVER seen an attack adjutant actually do an attack.

Make siege weapons worth using/have them in more maps, hell just make maps more involved in general, traps, switches, etc. not every map has to be a field, or an indoor map with some chests.

Remove the pointless fetch quests, tea partys, instruction segments, cooking segments, ect. Just get rid of anything to do with the Monastery as anything other than a backdrop.

Weapon triangle doesn't make sense in a game where everyone can use all three weapons if they want. It wouldnt be difficult to just have an iron+ of all 3 weapon types on your melee characters.

Instead of having 3 routes I would be cool if you were a teacher over multiple years. Like, you'd get a class of shitty students, train them up and by the end of the year they graduate and you start training a completely new class. If you built up enough support maybe you could convince some of them to stay as teaching assistants. Year 4 the school is destroyed and the last 1/4 of the game functions as regular fire emblem where you're doing shit to built a army to beat the big bad and can potentially find/recruit your old students in missions depending on how good you raised them.

The way characters grow on the battlefield in FE games has needed an adjustment for the longest time and it feels like 3H is one of the worst offenders for it. I have no problems balancing my time off the battlefield to get everyone the training they need but when it comes to gaining XP, it has always been an absolute pain in the dick to keep units evenly leveled so you don't end up with 2-3 powerhouses and then the rest are useless shitters because you let them get just slightly behind for one map and now they can't swing at anything without getting killed or otherwise stuck in a situation where they're left open to the rest of the enemy surrounding them. I'm all for "every decision counts" in tactics games but that shouldn't applied to just leveling your units evenly. I'm aware 3H offers free battles in normal difficulty so you can just use them to grind out units over a couple of battles to keep everyone close together but that's 1. a very lazy and tedious way to handle it and 2. not available on lunatic mode. Honestly, a better solution would be to just increase the number of enemies on maps, make them bigger, and tweak their positions so it's easier to split your army up and get everyone the XP they need to keep up but not get totally ahead unless you intentionally let them.

Your suggestions are not bad, but they need to do more. Some things that aren't even suggestions but really should be done are
>gambits only have one(1) use per map since they're broken as is, and they dont negate terrain hits anymore
>enemies actually use gambits not in the most braindead way and only to immobilize the player
>enemies get to use breaker skills on hard
>maps that actually require more strategy than head on bashing or playing checkers
>choosing a different weapon should take one turn instead of insta equip when attacking to at least ease out the multi-purpose character break
>changing classes shouldn't be free after unlock
>support/assist range needs to be gimped
>option to turn off the red meme lines, because they dont only show where the enemy is gonna attack(and they dont even work as intended because that still changes) but they also show then the enemy is making weird decisions like ignoring a 3HP unit to attack a full HP one

Super bosses

Essentially like the final boss's but harder and lasting 20+ turns just fighting one thing. Maybe add an extra phase for Lunatic where some students will die no matter how good you play and give that difficulty unique cutscenes upon death. Defeating super bosses adds cosmetics, new unique class unlocks for ng+, etc.

Byleth isn't really meant for other builds though because of his/her unique class. The main point of Byleth's skills is to focus on the skills you need to recruit other students. That being said though, it is admittedly a shitty way to handle it.

The dialogue usually feels way too limiting to self-insert, aswell as just how others respond to you, to the point id rather they just be their own characters. Granted if my choice is between this and another corrin ill setlle for this anytime. But it can be done well, just got to be able to have interactions that arent basically talking to a brick wall that only responds in 5 word replies

It was cool, but also dumb that they put an Arena right next to a shop you could buy Stamina potions from so you could just grind that shit and never be affected by Stamina.

I like it since it makes you change your teams and think a little about who you deploy.

If your first playthrough was on Hard, then you'd see why Explore is the way it is. The game was perfectly balanced around Hard mode. The problem with Explore is when you play on Easy or any difficulty NG+. Everything is so piss easy and you out-level the system so fast that most of the game's activities are frivolous. I'm on Chapter 12 with every single recruitable character, nearly everyone has at least one A+ skill, supports are nearly all maxed out, and mobs are ~5 levels lower than me unless it's a legendary boss map.
Why explore? Why seminar? Why battle? Resting twice a month is more efficient at this point.

Pulse is fine if its limited to once or twice a map or even make it a set limit for the entire game. The amount the game throws at you is more a problem then its function.

Monastary is indeed shit and wasted potential though, needed way more stuff to do to keep it engaging, especially in part 2.

I'm contemplating the same thing. He's my favorite character so far which I really didn't expect him to be.

There is some neat details like that. Characters will change their meal lines with one another deoending on their support rank and each character has a unique line for when they become level 99.

I feel like superbosses don't really work in an FE game because of the extremely restrictive attack ranges on a grid-based map and each unit only has a small amount of options available that can only really offer a small handful of tactic loops if you're only fighting a single enemy. Most of your units are going to be melee so it really restricts how you can change up the fight. You could get a bit more flexibility in that regard if all of your units had ranged attacks but in the case of FE, that would be horrible design to put in a boss that demands you use nothing but ranged classes and effectively punishes you for ever having bothered to train a melee character, even though the rest of the game is balanced around having a mix.

Superbosses where spend multiple turns fighting a single thing would work much better in a game like XCOM where you aren't as limited by range and thus there is more flexibility in how you position units for offense, defense, and evasion. FE is an alright series but its core mechanics, even with all of the new fluff mechanics they try with each new game, just don't offer the tactical depth required for superbosses to work. Just look at any of the giant beasts and how straightforward those are. The tactic is always distract, surround, break its barriers, and then annihilate it as it sits there helpless.

Scrap Three Houses and use Fates as a base to improve upon. The gameplay in Fates is still the best this series has ever seen.

You NEED to punch through or else you'll get swarmed and lose units

I know it's not really the "Fire Emblem" way, but I kind of want a absurd amount of classes again. I enjoyed the crazy amounts of shit there was in the Fates game and I kinda want that back to some degree. It feels like some classes are missing in 3H, hope they can add them in DLC or something. Pegasus not having an advanced class is pretty weird for example. There's also no non-mounted Lance focused classes like Halberdier or Sentinel. Troubadour/Valkyrie would be really good classes to train riding easier for mages going into Dark/Holy Knight. Hope they don't just add Dread Fighter as a master class and call it a day

It's annoying that nearly all the master classes that are mounted come from classes that aren't mounted, so you have zero reason to train horses except just for the master class.
I suspect they'll probably added more lower tier horse classes. I also hope they have stronger penalties for mounted classes, they are just too strong. No dismount would be a start.

I like to learn about the characters when the chance comes, not by watching cutscenes, thats dumb, I started speedreading through them after my first playthrough

Basically, make crits easier to strategize around in battle. As it is now, it's too easy for the player to get sky-high crit just through stats and items. Enemies getting a lucky crit is almost guaranteed to be a death sentence for whatever unit eats it unless they're a general at the moment, but hopefully these changes mean playing poorly means you eat more crits.

I'd also like to see more classes influence battalions. Classes like Hero partially specializing in authority and getting an extra gambit use seems obvious and thematically appropriate, but you could also have a Legionaire class that could spend a gambit charge to change tiles into road tiles, or Warriors could do extreme bonus damage to battalion health thanks to their rough and tumble combat style. You could also have a Sapper unit that always has access to the Blaze gambit, and maybe even let Blaze be used on walls to blow them up, or use them on forests to burn them to the ground.

Basically I think battalions are fucking sick and they're the best addition to the series since support networks. Most of my specific ideas are probably dogshit, but its definitely the element of the series as of Three Houses with the most potential for evolving the series on a tactical level.

Magic is a bit too strong in 3H I feel. Enemies have so little res that the best weapon most of the time is a levin sword/bolt axe. Having 3 range makes them great for fighting archers as well. There's also the magical combat arts that deal a fuckton of damage. Hope they add like 10+ res to all enemies on Lunatic/Infernal

It's weird because while Robin in awakening was more customizable, he still had more of a presence and personality than Byleth does.

I'd like them to take a page out of the XCOM series playbook, where the base is completely menu-driven, but going through it cycles the view to different areas of the army camp, and a lot of work has gone into making it feel lived in.

A some tactics games make character stats mostly a product of their gear. I'd be interested in a Fire Emblem game that had stats that came almost entirely from gear, and the onus was on the player to prioritize getting the gear they wanted on the campaign-level scale. Shit like guerilla attacks on enemy forges to grab weapons, etcetera. If nothing else it'd be a nice break from weakening enemy units to dripfeed experience around your party for the thousandth time.

Edelgard isn't, she kills more enemies with a bolt axe+ than with Aymr. There's a lot of other tanky units that have good magic growths in this game. Just make them fliers with Alert Stance+ to never get hit or if you don't care about movement just make them into armors for that sweet defense bonus. It's stupid how good the magic weapons are

You don't have to be a mage to have a magic stat. All the weapons that run off magic are way too strong due to enemies having low resistance. You do more damage with 20 magic and a levin sword than you do with 40 strength and a silver sword. That's the issue

Every FE has good core mechanics, imo, it's just a matter of map quality and direction.
Fates didn't even have that good of gameplay if you include Birthright and Revelations.
The main thing that made Conquest good was gimmicky map design that created really esoteric situations, as well as the maid units that prevented over-leveled units from steamrolling by offering an option to weaken them over time.
You can have all of that using 3H's core mechanics, for instance

>you can pacify the crowds using gambits or just place units in the entrance ways wherein they'll take constant attacks
>meanwhile you have to deal with fighting actual enemies in the rest of the map

i agree with most of your points. the main game didn't really need it, but i feel like some of the paralogues were basically balanced around having divine pulse since there are a couple with scripted encounters with reinforcements showing up and being able to move in the same turn, which would be completely bullshit without divine pulse. that said, I agree 2 or 3 seems like more than enough, i level up the statues and ended up with like 10 charges by mid-game somehow

i also think the rpg/vn elements need to be severely streamlined, it did not take long for me to get extremely tired of exploration days/micromanaging lessons/goals. there should just be ONE day between missions where you do exploration/rpgshit/paralogues

the maps/map variety were pretty fucking shitty too, there are so many recycled maps, have of which were basically just boring, empty fields where your units all start together in one spot. paralogues were more interesting with sometimes having your group start split up like the manuela one, but main game rarely did that, just occassionally had two paths so your units could split up into squads. picking smaller sqauds to divide and conquer is like the peak of these games IMO, i wish more of the maps encouraged this kind of game play with diverging/parallel paths

Divine Pulse is needed because FE isn't a strict strategic game. It has RNG, levelling, and all this extra shit to it. It treats all your units likes aces, so you never want to lose them or send them out in situations you know won't be in your favor or their death. If they were just faceless mooks that don't tie you down with plot or gameplay hooks than maybe the games would be better? But that also helped shape up everyone to the nuFE style, so I don't know how to fix it.

I'm not asking for any casual mode or the game to be a strict strategy game, but something about FE doesn't fit quite right.

The paralogue maps in general had much more variety, some of them were deceptively tough compared to the main storyline

Lorenz has a shockingly good amount of supports. His support with Marianne totally changed the way I saw him. It was one of the most heartfelt things I've heard someone say so far in the game. Also, Raphael and Ignatz is pretty touching.

There's story reasons for why that doesn't happen that you'll see.

Conquestfags need a reality check. It wasn't that hard, it had a lot of gimmick shit that made it feel like a slog.
Specially some unit ability loadouts that forced you to play a certain way instead of giving you a more open approach.

Like most people have said, early on they are a nice way of cleaning up units on the battlefield or dealing that extra bit of damage for a finishing blow. Later on I found most of my people dealt such big dick number damage or have a 25%+ of criticals that there was no point.

I'm doing Golden Deers with a ton of archers so yeah.

Archer ones are all godlike. Late game after that the only ones I found myself using other than those were Wild Abandon and Windsweep.

I warped Dimitri over there along with Ingrid and Hilda on flyers to cover Manuela, if you can survive the initial surge on the right side it gets a lot easier.

That paralogue is meant to be possible without leveling up either of them. You just need to rush a unit in to save Manuela or have Flayn rescue her off that cliff.

The only bad part was the endgame which basically required you to know about it beforehand or lunatic or just pray you got lucky and had the right set up, because lord knows strategy alone won’t save you if you lacked rescue staffs and shuriken breakers

I like the school uniforms and the subtle variations for each character, but I'm not fond of a lot of the timeskip outfits. The Golden Deers look like Power Rangers because of how color coded they are. Ignatz has green hair and a green outfit, Lorenz has purple hair and a purple outfit, Leonie has orange hair and an orange outfit, Marianne has blue hair and a blue outfit, and so on. Nearly the entire cast is like this. Kozaki on the other hand makes great use of complimentary colors.

Random growths and growth rates allow for good replayability and make it harder to make an algorithmic solution for any given map. An easier way to prevent over leveling would be to follow up with what Three Houses tried and make the choice to grind levels cost you other resources (skill experience, motivation, equipment etc...) except make it ACTUALLY cost you other resources by not allowing visits to market/blacksmith from the battle so you really do have to manage your resources if you want to do a bunch of auxiliary battles.
If the game was harder and you actually lost units then you need to have bench warmers to fill the void. You should view reserve units as just that, reserves for when members of your your main team inevitably die.

It's not genocide, it's just raiding for shits and giggles.

You would lose the rpg element that sets FE apart from just a run of the mill strategy game.
I like the rng myself, there just needs to be mechanics in place to mitigate bad rng (which there are, stat boost items exist.)

I finally got it. My boy Lorenz carried me through it. My greed for that thief trying to run screwed me over at times I'll admit.
The RNG really didn't favor me I have to say, bad excuse I know, but there's only so many times you can miss an attack that really shouldn't have missed and not get pissed.

At a certain point, well before time skip, you'll get a side mission to clear the road for merchants. That'll give you the eastern and western merchants who sell a variety of gifts among other things.

I loved seeing that the Deer turned into a sentai team, but I can see why that wouldn't appeal to a lot of people. I do like the outfits on their own though, especially Lorenz's armor and Leonie's orange/red design. I'm not sure if it's like that with other houses, but it seems more appropriate with the GD since they feel like the goofy weirdo house.

Pick them up around the cathedral and do the sidequest map that opens up the two merchants. They sell gifts that replenish every month.

Also grow lots of flowers. Bitches love flowers.

Mila's Turnwhele/Div Pulse shouldn't be an ability but an item with a certain amount of durability.
It should be super rare at a 3/3 charge you can give to crucial units you don't want to die.

This way it makes the player decide what character they're truly attached with and makes it even harder for when that shit runs out and that mother fucker dies for real.

Also adds in a drawback for having a turn back a turn item by taking up a slot.

My take for making a better emblem is kind of a drastic change.

Either remove the self insert or put more effort into them. I want to see more options in supports, with different B and A ranks depending on how you handled the previous ones. Or even capping a support to B or A if you say the wrong thing one too many times. Oh and remove the school/social stuff.

No the special classes are good but wyvern classes are just better. Aside from the obvious (movement) they also have really high stats for some reason. Dimitri and Edelgard wreck shop as wyvern lord and can solo maps if you so choose. Byleth as well

It's kind of a meme but brigands and wyvern riders/lords are really strong classes with great abilities and growths for physical characters.

Lances, speed, resistance, and avoid for dodge-tanking and mage killing.

The resistance is niche but it does make a difference. During the late stages of BL with dangerous mages everywhere, Ingrid had just enough resistance to make bold moves where wyvern Seteth and Sylvain had to be careful.

Casual Mode allows you to do ridiculous suicide tactics like sending out someone weak to distract a strong enemy for one turn, or throwing all of your units at a boss until it finally dies.
The Turnwheel still forces you to play normally, it's just more forgiving to mistakes/bad RNG. It functions pretty much identically to Battle Saves in 4, 10, 11, and 12, but is less forgiving since, unlike Battle Saves, it can't be used infinitely. So anyone who used Battle Saves in those games is honestly a bigger casual than people who use Turnwheel/Divine Pulse.

11+12 battle saves aren't bad because they're very limited, one or two at max, and only in specific locations. You have no safety nets on the way to the checkpoint. You can't play like a moron and expect to win just because you got a checkpoint four turns ago.
