Classic is quickly shaping up to be the biggest MMO release in a long, long time, and no amount of criticism is hurting it. Layering, no-skellies, right-click reporting, they all roll off like water off a duck's back, failing to cause any damage to the classic hype.
Many people got into MMOs due to WoW, and ended up migrating elsewhere. Now the people who never cared about WoW are worried that they will end up looking like fools after all their friends bail in order to go back to the king. They have a good thing going, and they see this huge giant stomping down the street towards them, so they scream at it in the futile hopes that they can find the right combination of words to stop it.
They don't want to feel like they wasted their time in a game only to have WoW just come along and snatch up the whole market all over again. That goes for modern WoW players, too. They don't want their game and community to die, but they see a hurricane called classic heading straight for their shores.

well the story behind that is:
private servers couldn't get all the scripts to work so most mobs didn't use their debuffs, abilities, spells etc
so they buffed their raw damage and armor to compensate for it
some of classic may very well be harder because of the scripts in some areas but overall private servers was harder than vanilla

try making a level 1 warrior with a weak race on light's hope private server and compare the struggle with weapon skill, parry, dodge, miss, damage and regen values to classic
classic is a bland walk in the park compared to that immersive survival experience that really forces fulfilling cooperation upon most players
i'd like blizzard to make their game better but they just can't. they really don't understand it, they don't have anyone left who does.
