and that's a good thing. Would you really want a modern SH made by current Konami?
With microtransactions and other shit?

We can only hope there won't.

We already have all the good ones that will ever be.
1 >= 3 > 2 = 4

It's okay, we're going to have something much better in Death Stranding.

Probably the best it could happen. Team Silent was lightning in a bottle.

I have never in my life see someone say 2=4

We got four masterpieces, that's more than most series get.

Yeah well I don't think 2 was as groundbreaking as everyone says it was. And I had fun with 4, aside from some backtracking.

No matter how bad the latter games were, 1, 2, 3 will always stand out as some of the best horror games in vidya history.

Literally a walking simulator

From what I've heard through the grapevine, a new Silent Hill is in development right now. Nobody knows who is making it, but it has been outsourced. Hopefully they picked a solid dev, paired them up with some old Team Silent people for feedback/guidance, and gave them a decent budget instead of skimping.

How was she so attractive when Dahlia looked like pure ass?

Attached: E2A3E886-F979-4941-AC49-C064ABA057DE.png (250x412, 136K)

>that thing
>attractive
Dahlia was in a PS1 game, bro.

Silent Hill can rest

>that thing
>attractive

Stop retard.

Well she was supposed to be like a grungy fucked up version after her dad died.
I saw the twist with Shattered Memories coming but it was still impactful when it hit. I think that's the measure of a good twist.

I absolutely love that voice actor who voices Kaufmann in Shattered Memories. He's like Liam Neeson, but Dad-ier.

Shattered Memories is so weird. It isn't a remake of 1, but it isn't a new game either. It's just another possible Harry Mason story. And to add to the bizarreness it came out on the PlayStation 2 years after the 3 was released.

Attached: 91aQ66Qtj2S.AC_SL1500_.jpg (1066x1500, 272K)

He should have had sex with her in the office

The truth behind Shattered Memories is that Climax wanted to make a new Silent Hill, but Konami were being difficult. Konami had a slot to make a Silent Hill remake, so Climax pretended that Shattered Memories was a remake, and were careful not to let Konami's people see anything that would indicate otherwise. The game was a giant ruse, basically. Almost akin to the Starship Troopers movie which was a completely different script wearing Starship Troopers as a cloak to gain funding.

Not to say that SM isn't "real" Silent Hill or anything like that. It's an excellent game that takes the series in a fresh and exciting direction. But Konami were cheapskates unwilling to spend much money. This is why Origins was basically made in 12 months. This is why they had to trick Konami into letting them make SM. This is why HD Collection was rushed. This is why Downpour is clearly unfinished.

Same voice actor as Revelations 2 Barry Burton BTW.

Shattered Memories was a Wii game. Circa 2010, there was a big push to present the Wii as a "mature" console. Eurocom's GoldenEye was released that same year.

The PS2 and PSP ports of SM were made in an effort to insulate the game's sales since Silent Hill is infamously prone to selling like shit.

>don't think it was as groundbreaking
Okay, retard. You're objectively incorrect, but I forgot you're the arbitrator of innovation in gaming.

I don't agree with him either but your post is pretty effortless, you have as much ground to stand on as him based on argument, even if your opinion is the prevailing one.

For the time they were given I'd say they did a good job with Origins, probably the best attempt by a Western Dev.

It wasn't really groundbreaking, 1's version of the town isn't that different when you realize it's Alessa's personal hell, and it took some steps back in areas that 1 did better. Still a good game that I enjoy a lot, though I still think the 2=4 thing is odd.

I still think the skin texture on her face looks weird, even though the face shape itself and everything else is fine. But the skin makes her look really bad.

Holy shit dude.

Was looking for this, thanks user

Never stop, friend. I've been seeding SH 2 to 4 for years. These games deserve the dedication

I got a copyright infringement notification from seeding 4. Which is pretty retarded, since it's not even available for purchase from them.

Konami being an ultratwat. Nothing new under the sun.

Be carful its not a scam of sorts. Sometimes people simply mark your IP and and try to scare you by having your ISP send a warning. ISPs are very
>LALALA WE DONT KNOW WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS ARE DOING
I have only got one copyright notice ever. And it was from a company that didnt even exist anymore...

Thanks, but I've got a question today, hopefully you or someone else can answer it.
Is UFO ending available in SH2 EE? I see people saying it's "available in Director's Cut edition", but after completing both main story and Maria's sub story, I don't get channeling stone where it should be found. I assume this is either:
a) Misconception, because for the longest time I thought UFO ending is exclusive to PS2 version
b) Problem related to enhanced executable you have to install to run other enhanced things, since it makes game's menu look like "normal" SH2.

Well it just said stop seeding and delete it basically, it wasn't asking for money or anything like that. Don't really see how it'd play into a scam. Companies will do that to "protect their property", but I think it's more to stop people from sharing their old stuff so they'll buy their new shitty more expensive games.

What the fuck is that even suposed to mean?

Good.

>b-but SOMETHING is better than nothing!!!?? right????
no. the first 3 games are great and the only ones worth playing. let silent hill die. or you will get a silent hill open world looter shooter or more pachinko.
LET. IT. DIE cucked fans

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traumatophobia

The fourth one is great too, backtracking and all

Play Afraid of Monsters, or Cry of Fear, if you want something else like Silent Hill. CoF goes a little too heavy on the jumpscares but it's the closest thing I've found that actually has some quality.

>t. retard

are you female?

>Team Silent dead
>Climax lost all core members
Now what?

I really like SM but I would like Coldheart also see the light of the day.

You are fucking retarded. That game was unreal with it came out in 01

>inb4 Silent Hill 1-4 HD Collection
>the reason why nothing has been done in 4 years is because they're giving the group remastering the games time to do it, not like the rushed Hijinx shit
>console exclusive again
My full expectation is a Legacy Collection 1 and 2 type deal. SH1-4, SH Origins, SM, Homecoming and Downpour for 1 and 2. Or, they sell them all individually but have physical collection bundles.
I know at the very least 2-4 will get remastered again, as 4 was one of the most requested games for the HD Collection and people wondered why it wasn't included.

I’m ok with this. I’d rather this than they run the series into the ground with sequel after sequel.

Who could set fire to such a perfect creature?

>all these people disagreeing
2 was the least scary and easiest of the games. It was also the most blatant with what inspired it. Of course it'd be equal to 4, one of the most spooky games but with weaker pacing and main character (despite a good story)

Let it go

Attached: giphy.gif (480x270, 1.2M)

>2 was the least scary
2 is the most fucked up. 3 is the least scary because you can get used to the bizarre monsters. In 2 the horror doesn't come only from weird designs, but from a million different fronts.

Give her time until she's Dahlia's age. Some women start out pretty, but hit the wall extremely hard.

Is that movie version of Jud? Ironic, because Pet Sementary inspired rebirth ending of SH2.

>2 is the most fucked up. 3 is the least scary because you can get used to the bizarre monsters
2 is more atmospheric than scary. I know what you're trying to say, woah Eddie killed people, Angela was molested, etc., that doesn't make it scary. The monsters literally being flung out from the abyss in the late game is a bit unnerving and the one Pyramid Head chase is a bit scary, but it's not as scary as say the sheer oddness of Nowhere in SH1 (or any of the weird out of place ambient noises in that game), and SH3 has more than bizarre monsters. The Happy Birthday caller is incredibly scary especially if something similar has happened to you before

As much as people want to fit in, I agree with this. It didn't do anything that crazy that 1 didn't already do, plus it was next gen so it was kind of expected. People like are just pretending to remember what it was like when it came out.

> it took some steps back in areas that 1 did better.

Like? Genuinely curious.

I guess that it's a matter of personal affinity. Not gonna like SH2 is my favourite game of all times but I think it's a terrifying game in all fronts- The architecture in that game is completely unnerving and some passages (the first encounter with Pyramid Head, the rape, Angela's whole story, the jail level) I found downright scarring. It's the one I find the scariest of them all, along with 4, but it might be because I'm more easily scared and unsettled by uncanniness than the most visceral approach of 3 (my least favourite of Team Silent games). Still, all these games are completely great.

>but it's not as scary as say the sheer oddness of Nowhere in SH1
Yeah, Nowhere was definitely at the top when talking about area design. It's the most memorable for me.

Alessa was a cutie with DSL

Nowhere was just lazy asset recycling. Though as a concept it's pretty damn cool.

Enemy design and some of the gameplay. 2 was lacking in enemy variety, they all mostly did the same thing but just looked a bit different from each other. I didn't care much for the few walking and escorting sections either, it just didn't do as well at the "game" part.

By all means, the Director's Cut should have the UFO ending. If you can't find the stone, then as you said, it might be an issue with the EE executable. I've tried looking through the SH2 Enhancements' Github page for anyone who might have had the same issue, but I couldn't find anything related to it.
If you'd like to give it a try, this website should have all you need to troubleshoot the game.
enhanced.townofsilenthill.com/SH2/index.htm

>just lazy asset recycling
>doesn't understand the concept of underlying horror within the idea of familiar but different

What is it that makes this game so surface level similar to Silent Hill but just so far off it's not even worth playing?

Attached: TheEvilWithin2_social.jpg (1200x627, 256K)

I'm not sure if it's just a Japanese thing, but a lot of their games seem to try and reuse assets like that. It worked pretty well there, it was just so atmospheric and was like being sucked into a black hole.

I kind of like when games take an area that was already kind of menacing and then turn it up to 11. DMC1 and Earthbound also did it well IMO.

Being an action game and not a horror game.

Like you said, the similarities are merely surface level.

You can always tell someone has no taste if they like silent hill 3. Team silent didn't even like silent hill 3, they were forced to reuse the map from 2, the higher ups told them to continue the story from 1 which they didn't want to do either, they were told to make the game more actiony with more gun sequences and random instant deaths which they also didn't want to do. Silent hill 3 had some good parts but no one should actually like that game.

>The team didn't like it so I can't like it if I want to seem ascended

Didn't know about that, but it makes sense. All those things you mention are what makes 3 my least favourite of the bunch. Too much action, too many creatures, too many callbacks. Still a great game, but there's too much pandering for my taste.

>It had good parts
>no one should actually like that game
Yea Forums everybody

Who are you quoting

>random instant deaths
I hated these. I actually liked the mirror room, but that you could die from it ruined the atmosphere it gave off for me because it just ended up being annoying. All the random shit that could kill you and cutscene deaths really dragged the whole thing down for me.

It really bothered me when Heather started taunting the monsters too. Felt so out of place.

Lots of games have good moments but are bad user

Is the PS2 version as good as the Wii version? I only have the Wii version but I'd rather not take my Wii out of cobwebs because I never enjoyed the controls.

First 3 chapters gave me hope to be a SH-like but the rest turned shit

Silent Hill does not benefit from being a series
Familiarity does not lend itself to horror. They should have used the "Silent" moniker to start an anthology series with only consistent themes, not consistent plot elements. They should have stopped going to the town "Silent Hill" after 2. John Carpenter tried and failed this with Halloween after Halloween 2 but I really think that it could work if done carefully.

Fuck off. 3 was the best one and Heather is my fucking wife.

I think people might like 3 because the main character being involved in the cult stuff was probably easier to take in, compared to Harry not knowing much until late in the game in SH1. Could also just be waifufags. SH3 still had some good visuals and ideas but most people talking about SH3 are only talking about Heather.

In the nineties a dad looking for his daughter was kinda new for a horror game. Today it's more generic than rescuing a princess.
Generic isn't acceptable and works should be judged by the time in which they came out.

Why is it so elusive and unportable, Yea Forums?
Where's my Switch or PS4 60fps version?

Attached: Silent-Hill-Cover-img.1.jpg (1418x1421, 742K)

>3 was the best one and Heather is my fucking wife.
>but most people talking about SH3 are only talking about Heather.

Attached: pipespin.gif (380x236, 456K)

They looked like waifufags to you?

The problem with this approach is consumers. They want more of the same and feel betrayed if you try to give them something new.

For a game which used 99% of it's map space Earthbound was pretty good about throwing new areas at you without too much recycling. It only falters a bit near the end where you have to revisit Onett and at the very least there's a original final dungeon right after that.

Cry more you bitch.

One of the few good things in the industry today.

I mean it would have been better if there were no SH games after 3 or 4, but you take what you can get.

It works for the MCU. It's about finding the difficult balance of different and the same along with managing the expectations that come with it.

Yeah, I'm not saying I want half of the game to be recycled, but it's not always a bad thing either.

How would YOU make a new SH if you had the chance? Complete creative freedom and an appropiate budget.

Coming from Resident Evil this is probably the most tense moment in the game, at least in terms of tension based on expectations. I wasn't used to not being able to fight enemies.

Attached: Screenshot.png (1037x1037, 535K)

Every MCU is the same movie. The differences are merely superficial. They pander to audience expectations and that's the problem I was talking about.

I would do a lot more shifting between the s based on RNG. I know it sounds annoying but scripted transitions aren't as scary.

Remaster SH1-4, keep cutscenes letterboxed, fuck the original VAs, they didn't notice during every other port, they won't notice now. It was a mistake to contact them.
Have a bonus where if you get every ending in all 4 games, you get a video of Masahiro Ito telling you there will never be another SH game.

2 is especially frightening if you have had to deal with someone close to you fighting and losing a battle with cancer. On my first play of it years ago I got the in water ending and after hearing the letter part if it, I wasn't right for a few days after. I didn't enjoy it, but after a few years I went back to it again and I appreciated that they tackled such an awful and depressing subject.

>The differences are merely superficial
Well, yeah. It would be fair for people to expect that the Silent series would still have its traumatic psychological horror elements. A big problem that the later games had was thinking that the town itself was interesting enough to carry the series. It isn't. If they changed the surface level and allowed the ideas that came with the new setting and story to direct the unchanged inner substance, then it would be a refreshing and faithful take.

It has to be your game.

There's no need for another SH game. Story is done and has been done for ages. Every sequel, prequel and reimagining has been pointless

Good. Shitty Resident Evil clone right from the start.

>traumatic psychological horror elements
But those are vague terms. You can make completely different things while still adhering to those terms. SH4 and SH1 are completely different. That's the kind of "different" that I'd like to see. Merely personal opinion, tho.

Do you think Hills would have been good? Honestly. I think it would have been, but I also think PT was more Kojima talking about Konami than feel talking about Silent Hill.

Attached: D7QhV7WWwAArJF8.png large.png (713x730, 161K)

Based bait.

Attached: 1565298045167.jpg (921x640, 100K)

So, if you could, you would not? I mean, that's admirable, but I think you could still do a lot of SH games. Look at the jump between SH and its sequel. There are barely any connecting threads, apart from the city. You just take the concept and make your thing. I'd love to watch people trying to make new things with the setting and the basic concept. No interest at all in expanding story or anything.

I know this is bait, but SH1 is RE's complete opposite in terms of horror tone, style and presentation. Not to say either one is bad, I have 3 shelves dedicated entirely to RE and SH2-4 on PS2 with the original black labels. I love both series.
Silent Hills would've sucked. Kojima showed he didn't get what the series was about in his approach to horror, which was more similar to that of his Metal Gear games, where he believes breaking the 4th wall is an adequate supplement to well paced scares and thought provoking puzzles.
I hold that the puzzle of PT is awful compared to those in 1-4. Even's 2's terribly obtuse horseshoe puzzle isn't as bad because at least it doesn't take you out of the game to zoom in on the main menu.
Also, jumpscares shit.
Making a new SH game would mean the game would have to make itself distinct. Adding ANOTHER expansion to the city would be a dumb idea, it's already huge with Origins and Downpour's additions, and going the 4 route would just give the impression of "Why even call it SH at this point?"

>the higher ups told them to continue the story from 1 which they didn't want to do either, they were told to make the game more actiony with more gun sequences and random instant deaths which they also didn't want to do.
[citation needed]

I have to agree on Kojimas "Ideas" on what would be his take on a Silent Hill game, you can see it from the very title itself, as retarded as all the names of his other titles. Couple this with his incessant obsession with Hollywood celebrities and what we would have would be a critically acclaimed action/horror game nothing like silent hill at all with really daft characters and plot points that go nowhere or are overly convoluted. The game would probably be unfinished too.

A lot of people consider SH4 too different tho

As much as I hate him, I get the distinct impression Caramel was completely right in his Silent Hills theories. He doesn't get SH at all, but that's perfectly in line with Kojima.
For the unaware, his theory was that "Silent Hills" meant multiple Silent Hills. As in multiple dimensions. The retarded fan theory where Otherworld is another universe entirely, as is the "Fogworld", "Darkworld", etc., rather than just being our world but warped by spiritual powers.

What is it about Maria in 2 that makes me just want to explode?

Attached: bcbd59e1a4bec99b94a893eafdbc2bac.jpg (2374x3000, 861K)

I know, I know. That's my point.

Fug, cheetah print is my Kryptonite
I'm convinced my b old CRT was too shitty for me to notice that's what Maria was supposed to be wearing

I don't really care about a "canon" idea of the city. I understand it's all just fiction, so the city being completely different every time would not bother to me. I understand it's a necessary concession. I understand the opposite too, but imo people who focus too much on a canon built among different titles contribute more negatively than positively

Never liked her. I could tell there was something very very wrong about her from my first playthrough I was expecting her to stop and pull a Lisa on me at any moment and eventually she did lol.

Didn't find her attractive at all, and that translated well to James autistic interactions with her. He didn't know what to make of her and after she came back from the dead he said fuck it, and moved on briskly.

I think it would have been great, in all honesty

TEW has never had anything to do with SH. Judging a series by comparing it to an unrelated one is retarded
