Crocomire isn't supposed to be in Norfair. He's burning alive willingly to hide from you.
Croco probably hangs out in Brinstar or some other less hot part of Zebes but your arrival scared him off. His droopy, almost bubbling flesh clearly indicates he's not suited for the burning harsh environment of Norfair. Supporting this, how could something in Norfair die in lava?
