shit thread kys

did this nigga just create an entire genre

I'm in a discord with someone who knows the guy who made cookie clicker. Apparently he never made any money from it and he's actually a pretty chill guy

Well yeah, I've got it open in another tab

I still have it running. all 415 achievements unlocked though.

I'm just letting it save up sugar lumps, I have 247 at the moment.

They just put out a beta mobile port of the game which was a nice surprise for it's sixth birthday

>he never made any money from
lol what a dum dum

>he thinks cookie clicker created the idle genre
I bet you didnt even know Orteil used to shill his game on here before it even had graphics

There is a patreon

Wasn't there already a mobile port?
>Six years
damn

Yeah, it runs like shit though especially with the ads on the bottom constantly

He came from here. He was posting in AGDG before he even started on cookie clicker.

There were always some chinese clone games with microtransactions and such.
It does run like shit for sure. Just block the app from the internet to remove adds. You did root your phone right?

God, I was part of the same community of the weird french guy that made this. Funny how internet works.

>get addicted to cookie clicker
>after 3 months of 4 hours sleep
>finally decide to break the habit
>save the game out as a text file
>alter it to enable everything
>watch it run for a few minutes
>everything unlocked
>urge to ever play it again subsides
ain't going back

No, I was playing idler games over a decade ago on kongregate
I don't know if that's their origin, but there were some very simple games people would run just to use the chatrooms. Like A Knight's Story, whose score was just the seconds it had run, and enemy sprites would cycle between a handful. Idle games got more complex, one I remember that had a lot to do was Anti-Idle.
This was all many years before cookie clicker

Inspired by Candy Box.

Yes, definitely inspired, Candy Box was a good way to spend an afternoon too.
That was more like a game with arbitrary waiting requirements than an idler though, Cookie Clicker would go on to define multiple elements of the genre, especially with the need to actively click a central point of interest, or delegate this to workers you earn through clicking.

I lost my save and gave up.
