Welcome to Dragon Quest.

Maybe you should call your parents more. Just talk story.

Enjoy the ride

It's never spot-on in my case. Am I lying to myself or is the game lying to me?

Thanks I finished 1 and loved it.
Played 2 about 50% and dropped it.
Now I'm playing this and hopefully will finish it.

Should I even try? My party's at around level 40

the former is always much more likely

I had to play 2 quite a few times before finishing it, the game is worth your time.
2 has an incredible OST

Do it. You don't want Yea Forums to laugh at you for overleveling do you?

I WILL FINISH 2
I FUCKING HATE THIS END GAME THOUGH MUSIC IS NICE ESPECIALLY MAP THEME

Are you on crack? Yea Forums is full of casuals. They overlevel in everything and then complain the game is too easy.

2's ost is underrated imo. My Road My Journey is the best end credits theme in DQ.

DQ games are unironically the comfiest JRPGs I have ever played. I can see why Japanese salesmen love them so much.

Yeah it's possible at 40. Shouldn't be too hard. Was the thief another class at some point? Like a casting class?

If by "comfy" you mean "braindead", then I agree. DQ don't demand much from the player, but I would rather play something else.

I love Devil's Tower
youtu.be/i8e8Sg8gTn0?t=105

I really need to resume this game, it's super cool.
I gave up after getting the boat, it suddenly became super open ended and I got sick of constant random battles while sailing nowhere. Any advice?

Name ONE (1) big brain JRPG

Talk to NPCs

>he’s honest with his snes game but not his parents

Talk to towns people to find out where to go. The map is modeled after the Earth btw. Japan is near Dharma/Alltrades and there's something there that you need. Then try going to North and South America and Antarctica for more key items and clues on where to go. Make use of the remember spell if you are playing on the GBC or SNES so you can reread important NPC dialogue.

Nocturne. You can't just play it as if it was Dragon Quest, it's an anti-comfy game.

As far as I know, they added the Thief class in the GBC remake.

No I know that. They added that in the SNES version. I was asking if the their was originally another class of it's just a thief. I wanted to know if they knew any battle spells.

Is the GBC remake worth it?
I'm playing the SNES fan translation desu

>Yea Forums is one single person
Sure is reddit in here

Oh, yeah, I had her as a Priest before, so she knew some healing spells.

It adds an extra bonus dungeon, collectible monster medals which are tied to that dungeon, and a truncated script in order to fit on a GBC screen. It's fine, but the SNES version looks and sounds better. Under the hood they are essentially the same game.

That's what I was thinking. Having 2 people that aren't the hero and are capable of healing is useful during mid-endgame.

Best map theme.

It gets good after 20 hours. Honest!

I hate people who pretends mental illness doesn't exist to make people feel better. I've been repressing gender dysphoria for years, and everyone I've tried to talk to tells me it is normal and to transition. I just want real help to get rid of this

Just don’t chop your dick off everything else is really on you to “find” and/or accept yourself.

Is GBC less grindy?

I've played 1 hour DQ3 and holy shit is it slow and grindy. And the enemy groups aren't just 1-21 monsters oh no they are often 6 monsters.

>DQ3
>Grindy
user I think you're just shit or made a bad team.

DQ7 is a brutal motherfucker of a game in terms of time investment, but that's part of its charm.

Huge DQ fan here, and I gotta disagree. All 3 of them are pretty simple to me. Nothing too complex, outside of maybe DQ9 when you get into grottos and rng manipulation.

It's the same game under the hood, meaning all the stats and calculations are the same iirc. So if you are having a hard time with it on the SNES, then GBC won't be any different. If you don't like it then either move on to another game in the series or just to another game entirely. No need to force yourself to play something you don't like.

I actually had to apply shit like buffs and debuff and pay attention to enemy configurations while playing DQ3/5/11 and make up actual strategies for bosses in 11 Harder Monsters.

Meanwhile you can nearly beat FF6 by doing nothing but mashing A, to say nothing of how cheap most of the other entries are. The bad Tales entries are literal button mashing. I'm not even a terribly big fan of DQ, but the stereotype has always been backwards. FF is the one where occasionally the numbers are just not going to work out and you need to grind if you didn't get enough fights, DQ is the one where you try something out and test your luck.

Alltrades is fucking gruelling in 7 man. Buy all the herbs you can carry and always make sure your characters are carrying some in their inventory.

>answer honestly

Attached: 1560012896705.jpg (252x229, 7K)

there some website i cant take the quiz?

Just play the game on SNES. It's right at the beginning and it's a great game anyways

Maybe I just find it relatively simple since I'm a huge DQ fan. The games can get pretty challenging for me, but that's only when I apply some restrictions. For example in DQ9, my fav DQ, I did a solo run about 8 years ago. That was incredibly hard for me during early to mid game, but by end game I had everything down. That was a satisfying run to complete. I'll admit that I haven't played a whole bunch of FF or Tales games, but from what I've played (FF3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, 15, and Tales of Abyss, Phantasia, Eternity, Legendia and Innocence, of which I only beat FF 3, 4, 12, and 15) they seem to be on par with DQ for me in terms of complexity in battle.

how long is it? The semester is about to start and I don't want to be in the middle of jrpg during it.

About 30 hrs. Maybe a bit less.

Oh geez, maybe during the fall break.

jut play through it, even if it's hard. It's meant to be at that difficulty, grinding will just ruin it

He's shockingly easy. I was about level 40 when I fought him, and as long as you have one person using the Sage Stone every round and preferably another healer to pick up the slack when you dip down, he can't damage you fast enough. His only real gimmick is that he can dispel buffs and debuffs, but that means he can't make use of them either. It's a war of attrition and you've got an infinite-use Multiheal.

>Literally only that one guard gives a shit

What the fuck was his problem?

>le misunderstood teen

>take your pills goyim you have a disease which requires constant medication

When does this start to get good? I genuinely loved DQIII, and everyone who recommended that game to me also said that DQ5 was the best in the series, so I trust that it IS good. But right now this game is just a chore to play. I'm so sick of running around with a party consisting of a Priest and 1-3 pieces of dead fucking weight, fighting enemies that can spam Sizz and breath attacks every three steps, and generally feeling like I'm not making any progress or advancing anything. I just got Saber back and kicked that worthless shit Hammerhood out of my group, so hopefully things start improving but man, I'm not enjoying this at all right now.

Attached: 61vvWLXNX9L._AC_SY400_.jpg (404x400, 53K)

Slime knight is the best party member you can get at that point of the game. Borongo is good too as a beatstick

Most people like it for the story, but what monsters you have can definitely affect how good or bad random encounters are. Slime Knight and Healslime are really good, as is Saber. Slime Knight is a good healer who can equip almost anything so its stats stay up. Healslime is self explanatory. Saber has really high damage. There are other good ones too, but those are ones that stand out.

He didn't like bumpkins.

How annoying is it to play on mobile?

Is there anything I can do to increase recruitment rates, or is it just in Rubiss' hands? I've been stuck with a Slime, a Hammerhood, and a Rotten Apple for the entire second act so far, and that's probably the main reason I've been feeling so miserable.

he was the most valiant, trustworthy guard the world ever saw. If zoma was a bumpkin, he would have easily fallen to the sheer will and might of the bumpkin watch guard

Attached: dw3.png (644x631, 1.04M)

Yeah, I got him. I kept using buffs every other turn just to make him waste a turn. Now I'll see what's up in the sky.

I went outside that town you get kidnapped at and just grinded slime knights until I got one

I did it a few times and each time it told me that I'm a wonderful person.
Garbage game

Pray. Or play the latest version on mobile and get the Monster Magnet in the casino.

Attached: DQV Recruitment Chart.png (896x960, 207K)

Alright, I'll just put on a podcast and focus on recruiting for a while, then.

Man, I miss being able to just get the party members I need for free at the pub.

Do you think they'll port DQ games on the switch besides 11?

You don't really need to sweat monster recruitment too much. You can definitely beat the game with the party members you get later in the game. If you're keen on using monsters then Slime Knight, Golem, and Orc King/King Cureslime will be the best monsters you can get.

no

Attached: Slime-ff.png (250x255, 78K)

In Japan definitely. In the West we'll have to hope Nintendo picks up Squeenix's slack again probably.

You did choose an all female/male hero party didn't you?

Attached: Hoes Mad Mad Hoes.png (1800x2000, 1.26M)

If they had any sense, they'd strike while interest in the series is hot and release "The Erdrick Trilogy Collection" and "The Zenithian Trilogy Collection" on Switch within the next year, maybe with remasters of VII, VIII, and a completed release of IX on the way later. But this is the company that decided they didn't want to bother localizing the series after VIII's success, forcing Nintendo to bring IX over themselves. I don't think they WANT Dragon Quest to be popular in the West.

No, I chose an all female party because I'm not so desperate to self-insert that I'd pass up on the best girl in the game.

Attached: 1565682048295.png (488x1000, 338K)

They'll strike while interest is high and release some type of DQ Collection in Japan. The West will get it a year later. All according to plan.

Yeah. I named the three after porn actresses I fancy.

I had a female Martial Artist, female Priest/Sage, and a Male Thief that I eventually turned into a Priest. Female Thief looks like shit and I didn't need a Mage. Merchant and Gadabout aren't worth thinking about.

Started like that playing on SNES, then I got the dreaded save deletion bug and just went with girl hero on the second playthrough so something would be different (also to minmax and get back where I was asap with the sexy personality).

Save deletion bug?

Attached: Waddle of The Gluttonous Princess.png (2200x2000, 1.28M)

The translation patch introduced a bug that happens if you talk to some random woman on the second floor of a house in Portoga. Her dialog will become a jumbled mess, the game will crash, and your save file will become corrupt. It happened to me, and I was able to continue with save states, but even if I saved after that, those files would be corrupt as well. Curiously enough, the save you get after clearing the game still works, but only once. It goes right back to being corrupt after that, but at least you can go to the Zenith dungeon.

On the second floor of some town if you talk to a certain NPC the game crashes and your save gets corrupted. I was going for an authentic experience so I wasn't using savestates and had to start over.

So even if you backed up the .sav file, it's the rom itself that's fucked?

Nah it's just the save. When it happened to me it formatted the save and was fine afterwards (albeit with all my progress gone).

Seems like that's the case. I didn't really go poking around for solutions, so I don't know the extent to which the ROM breaks. Maybe just deleting your file and starting over would work, maybe you have to download a fresh ROM. I'm not sure. Just don't talk to anyone you don't have to in Portoga if you decide to play the Super Famicom version (which I would recommend besides that).

I reloaded my save state when that happened to me and I was fine. It was pretty far back from when I talked to her though so maybe that's why nothing happened. I was so pissed at the time but now that I know it could have destroyed my save...

I'm playing the android version and it's not too terrible. I'm almost at the end at this point too. However, I did end up save scumming a decent amount and I'm pretty sure that's not in the original versions without save states

Attached: 1407746157605.png (377x330, 6K)

Do they have any plans to fix it?

I don't know how old this romhack is, but it's old enough that it's using all the old translations, like Fireball instead of Sizz, etc. Doubt that's ever getting fixed.

That patch is old as heck, and the group that put it together have long since disbanded and mostly disappeared from the internet. It isn't getting patched unless someone else decides to hack a hack.

Are there anymore bugs that can brick a save or is this the only one?

Do you believe in horoscopes as well?

>SFC fan translation came out a decade ago
I'm sure they're working hard on those bugfixes user hahaha...

As far as I know, that's it. I had heard about it going in, but the person who told me about it mistakenly remembered it being the priest in Portoga that caused the bug, rather than a woman on the second floor of a house, so I got hit with it anyway. There were some minor text fuckups that I remember seeing when playing, but other than that the hack works fine.

>want to try out the bug for myself
>only one house with a second floor
>no woman anywhere to be found
Well that was disappointing

Attached: Dragon Quest III-190820-203509.png (1196x896, 1.91M)

Funny, I remember her being here. Maybe she disappears once you get the boat or pass some other point, which is what led to the hackers missing her or something. Weird, now this sounds like a shitty copypasta. The fact that it plays the Cursed sound effect over a black screen when you start the game with a corrupted file adds to that.

>being an asshat instead of recommending a better filter like a productive elitist would do
No, fuck you

Attached: 1561964804473.jpg (868x1228, 729K)

Maybe. When I talked to her, it just dumped a whole bunch of text on one line with my character's name getting repeated a few times, then crashed. Maybe it did get patched, maybe using debug mode sidestepped whatever caused the bug. But it IS a problem that many people have run into.

A better filter is no filer, you chode.

Holy shit, there's a fucking story here.
I went back at night, and found only a cat. Sabrina is nowhere to be found in town during the night. The cat is nowhere to be seen during the day. And then I found Carlos. He's standing where a horse is during the day. The horse is nowhere to be found during the night.
They've been fucking curse or something.

Gotta be, if it was that easy to trigger, it's something that would've been caught very soon after the initial release, and patched in the 1.1.

Is that the fucking Dragon Quest 8 logo

>play for the first time
>it calls me a bully
I'm a nice guy I swear

Dragon Quest is basically made for "comfy" first, and most Japanese people play and recommend playing it by playing 1-2 hours at a time right after you get out of the shower/bath and before going to bed.

Please give me your patched rom that isn't breaking on classic bugs

What, you mean v1.1?
There's links to both RC1 (labelled 1.0) and 1.1 in the /dqg/ OP, but to save time:
anonfile.com/Pfu6Pc0bnf/Dragon_Quest_III_smc

I guess 1.0 is just more widespread. I downloaded the game like two weeks ago, and it's 1.0. I bet most people wouldn't even think to look for a later version.

I've been wanting to play DQ3, is the NES version better or the SNES version?

SNES, definitely. The bottomless bag alone is reason to play it over the original. Personalities, the Thief class, mini-medals, and Treasures 'n' Trapdoors weren't in the original, either.

I suppose that's logical.
It doesn't help that most people these days search out pre-patched roms thinking they're getting the latest version of said patch.

To add on to this, make sure you get v1.1, not v1.0
