Zero only happened because Kamiya and Platinum were fans of Star Fox and probably took initiative in getting the license from Nintendo. The series has been dead at Nintendo for a long time. They’ve been outsourcing it since Adventures.

This. Assault laid the foundation for a future where Star Fox wasn’t the inferior shoot-em-up to Sin and Punishment. Star Fox could have been a more-mobile and larger version of Halo, with giant open levels and a variety of vehicles to use, plus dismounted combat. Assault multiplayer was also awesome too. It’s a shame that Miyamoto keeps the series stuck in the Star Fox SNES box instead of letting it naturally progress.

I really liked Star Fox Zero. Once I had the controls worked out, it was great. Going balls to the walls with my acrobatics and rapid form shifting against the Star Wolf team is probably my favorite mission in the series.

I also think 64 is the worst of the Star Fox games I've played. I started with the SNES when I was young, was disappointed with how 64 was just the SNES one, but more dull. And with a tank.

Assault was pretty fun, but felt lacking still until I started playing the multiplayer.

Assault is the far superior gamecube game. There are plane sections, tank sections, and on-foot sections, all of which are at least pretty good. Aside from one somewhat infamous level near the end, the entire SP is fun, and the MP is the best in the series. And there are collectables and other shit to do throughout. Graphics and soundtrack are some of the best on the GC. Overall definitely worth playing sometime.

the best approach for star fox is maybe go online multiplayer, monster hunter world has that option to do quests on your own, join other quest and even call others to join your quest. imagine if star fox has missions were you can do that as well, hell not just make missions but go PvP or even team battles

That’s not how video game directors work, not in Japan or at Nintendo anyway.

I'm not a huge fan of the chicken, but it's probably much easier imagery than if they tried a different animal. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried foxbots first, but it seems like it would be hard to design it to look very distinct and still mechanical, while keeping that feeling of being hunted when they're all closing in on you.

I'd say 2 is only good because of the timer and map on expert mode. Yeah, all the other parts in a vacuum aren't that great, but I still find replays more enjoyable than Assault overall. Command could have been good only if they kept timing and point scoring more similar to 2.

I think the biggest thing that needs to happen for a new Star Fox game to be successful is to let go of the on-rails shooting and give the play Ace Combat style free flying. I understand that on-rails is how the series started, but it's so incredibly restrictive and simplistic compared to most modern games, especially in a title that's all about high-speed fighter dogfights in space.

I always see Command as a game that had some nice ideas but TERRIBLE exectution of them, like having a strategy layer and multiple playable ships and characters is great.

Having EVERYTHING be the same couple of All-Range battles OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN IS NOT, nor was locking away the CYOA aspect of the game and railroading until NG+.

It is definitely the worst game in the series but i don't think all ideas were bad.

There was Switch only DLC, but basically yeah, they released a Pack that was Falco, Peppy and Slippy as pilots and had a questline that had Pigma, Leon and Andrew as bosses and had some "puzzles" that required to use the Star Fox Pilot Abilities, it was pretty neat, it was announced released in co-junction with the Free Crimson Moon update, but as said, the additional Star Fox content was DLC you had to pay for.

I see it as mutual, Star Fox gave Starlink a Audience in spite of being a dying TOYS-TO-LIFE "Genre", Starlink gave Star Fox fanservice and a okay game that had some relatively fresh ideas that didn't completely fuck over everything else in it due having them (Like Zero and Command did).

Starlink definitely has flaws though and i could go on all day about them because i like the game and would really like a sequel that fixes my gripes.

Wolf is good in Ultimate. Bottom of top tier, most consider.

Was good in Brawl too. MK, ICs, Falco, ZSS and such just outshined him so often. Wolf was still pretty darn good, all things considered.

This is actually amazing. Never thought of Fire Emblem support conversations in Starfox, but it sounds like it'd work well. Fox, Falco, Slippy, Peppy, Krystal, Miyu, Fay as the team; bring in 1 or 2 teammates into a mission and back them up to raise support. Heck, you don't even necessarily need to be Fox— like in SF2, just choose whichever characters you like, and the more you use them together, the stronger their bond will grow. They'll be more likely to protect you in combat, maybe drop items or whatever, and you get those cutscenes showing characters interacting with each other.

I actually like Ultimate Wolf' design the most. The only thing that's bad about it is how painfully easy it would be to poke out his good eye with those shoulder spikes ONLY being on that one shoulder.

I feel like it's the worst Ubisoft open world game as far as reusing content goes. All derelict ships are almost identical for example, aside from different broken doors or the treasure hidden in the chest inside. Even the story mission end up following patterns after a while (like all planet bosses are identical).

Got Star Fox 64 3D on clearance today and damn this game is fun, and played until I got through all the alt stages. Thumbs still hurt. Can you play as the other pilots though? The medals in score attack seem crazy to get. Like I felt really good about how I went through Corneria and only got Bronze.
