Writing wise, Danganronpa isn't really good for writing since in the first two main games which have been brought up a lot tried to juggle a lot of individual character stories and the main plot but fall flat on itself because it doesn't mesh together. So I wouldn't recommend doing what Danganronpa does in execution.

Basically, he doesn't like killing but he doesn't go down the "hey we all have to be friends" path like Kaede because he's super wary of everyone else in the game. That's why he acts like a little shit, to keep Monokuma entertained.
As to why he does the whole Gonta thing later, I'm reminded of a quote from Chapter 1 he says "when you decided to kill Kaede, that's when you lost" or something similar. I think that Kokichi decided to go with the Gonta plan in order to make everyone think of him as the bad guy, hoping that he could defeat Monokuma's plan that way. But I think he just flat-out messed up there because by setting himself up that way it was basically guaranteed that Maki would try to murder him. I think that he was trying to get Shuichi to go along with his plan, but frankly Kokichi's biggest flaw was that he couldn't really trust anyone.
At least that's the way I generally saw things

Seriously they're the only reasons each class trial doesn't end in everyone but the killer being executed.
Imagine if Hajime died in SDR2. The only person of any value left would be Chiaki. For 2-4, Nagito literally exists to help Hajime - as soon as Hajime wasn't worthy of being helped in his eyes, case 5 happened, which is something only Hajime was capable of figuring out.
Imagine if Makoto died. A new word would have to be invented for just how swiftly things would take a massive shit. If Makoto died, maybe Kirigiri and Byakuya could carry, but they only ever cooperate because of Makoto.
It is literally as simple as killing the guy who always thwarts the murders.

Nah, had they ended where Chiaki reasoned out to they still thought Nagito was just shooting blindly with who would end up the blackened so he could kill the traitor. It was Hajime that figured out he was trying to save the traitor by killing the rest of them.

Chiaki's the one who figures out the Monokuma case was suspect, Nagito's method of death, including how he forced someone to kill him and why he wanted to sacrifice himself. That's most of the important elements to the case. What Hajime did was similar or rather, the inverse of what Makoto did in trial 5. They believed in the sort of person Nagito/Kyoko was and used that to gauge the depth of the trial. It's Hajime knowing that Nagito's a sick fuck that keeps him anxious but it's not really tangible crime-solving for the most part.

I did. Playing a different gender changes the dynamic of how people treat you and how you interact with them. We got a male protagonists for the first two games, and that's cool, but I was in it for going through the danganronpa scenario from a girl's perspective so the game was kind of a let down from pretty early on.

Most complainers have never played the game and are just assblasted at minor censorship that doesn't affect the plot in the slightest.
It's not a VN, it's first person dungeon crawler. Make sure to not play on the lowest difficulty like those people who complain that the game is too easy.

I heard it recycled ideas from Danganronpa and that it just wasn't interesting.

What would you like to see potentially in the next game? I feel like they introduced a ton of interesting concepts but never really expanded upon them. For instance the idea that they have to stay trapped for their entire life if they don't finish the game in DR1 was always interesting to me. I'd like to see a cast of characters get older and start to off each other over the years. Maybe make each murder happen like 10 years apart with a timeskip or something.

Monokuma can occasionally spawn at your base with some rare loot if you own Danganronpa or have found Danganronpa posters in the game. Plus few red herring Danganronpa references at the very beginning. That's it.

It's a fun game with some neat ideas. Maybe you've forgotten, but Spike Chunsoft also makes Mystery Dungeon series, it's not like they only do sound novels or adventure games.
Story is fairly average, but it has some interesting twists and the ending is very strong, unlike Danganronpa, where it's usually the weakest part. Characters are likable too. It's pretty refreshing to have all-adult cast (with the exception of token loli).
It can get grindy if you're completionist, but the game can be completed in 40 hours. Should be noted that there's nothing missable in this game, even after completing the game you can load the save and everything will be available.

Apparently they're considering it, yeah. The "true ending" does set up some stuff for a possible sequel, though apparently it won't be a continuation of the same story. Maybe they means that it won't have the same characters but might be set in the same world.

Sure, he was a great friend for Shuichi, but he contributed literally nothing (at least in DR1 "tell 'em Makoto" was because they already figured it out), botched Kokichi's plan (pussed out at the very end when Shuichi figured it out and started playing along), and totally cucked us out of Maki (who isn't my favorite anyways but it's the principle of the matter)

Anyone knows how to fix this texture glitch in the Steam version of DR2? All objects like tree foliages and shit have this blue outline and foreground objects while walking around do this in the picture, and the very first class trial has a gigantic purple block in the background. I played a pirated version on this very same computer that never did this.
