Franchise comes back from the dead

>franchise comes back from the dead
>isn't only a comeback but also the best in the series
Just how often does this even happen?

>no mission variety, plus forgettable missions
>absolutely garbage story and characters
AC7 is one of the better ACs, but it's no PS2 trilogy.

>no mission variety
>while also bragging about the PS2 trilogy
You better remove those nostalgia goggles. AC7 has by far the best mission designs.

>no mission variety
the fuck, you do know AC4 was 75% score attack missions, and AC5 was 90% gimmick missions

AC7 has better story than both 4 and Zero.

Yea Forums contrarians constantly seethe at this idea, but Doom (4) was just that.

Just thinking about this makes me want Marathon 4

Mortal Kombat 9
Also I disagree with you, OP. I think 7 is better than 4 but it's not better than 5 or Zero.

>AC7 has better story than both 4 and Zero.
It was Belka again a better story? AC7 was a mess in the story department with a misleading trailer.

>the best in the series
huh?

Look I love the PS2 games but AC7 easily surpasses 04 and 5

Can't wait to start my SU-30 Mister X playthrough.. My last run as Yellow 13 was hype

>AC7 has better story than both 4 and Zero.
I love 7 but that's objectively wrong

Attached: 1561214348085.jpg (600x699, 36K)

>It was the belkans again
>Ignoring that all the background stuff from the first 6 games all comes to a head in 7 which sets the ground work to lead into 3

>No mission variety
At least half the campaign missions have some sort of gimmick

yeah and it was a mess because of it

Not the user you are talking to but I thought the shattered skies cutscenes were kino

I am forever comfy

Attached: 20190820_080133.jpg (3264x2448, 3.39M)

WHY THE FUCK WASNT THERE AN HD COLLECTION??
WHY WASNT THERE VITA OR 3DS PORTS OF 4,5,6???

4 has basically a non-story. Zero's climax doesn't have enough build-up to be effective and also the game suffers generally from lack of worldbuilding which makes both AC5 and AC7 the best in the series.

>those cutscenes where they put 3d models over real life photos

Attached: 1563770191624.png (120x120, 9K)

>4 has basically a non-story

and that's a good thing

>best game in the series

But that's Japanese 3

kill yourself

Attached: shit combat 7.png (846x408, 71K)

AC 4 was mostly score missions
AC 5 had a lot of variety, but several gimmick missions were dreadfully bad
AC 0 may in fact be better

kys DCStard

Attached: ace7reviews.jpg (834x435, 73K)

AC6 had better mission structure and variety.

>b-but muh fly with the angels cringe

both have trash stories. AC7 is arguably worse because it was heavily edited/stitched (presumably due to cut/missing content).

What bad gimmick missions? AC5 is great from start to finish.

I think this might be the most wrong opinion ITT

>AC6
Nobody played that game, xbot.

>PC
Ignore HOTAS babies

Ok this was actually pretty nice. It's a shame you don't actually see Yellow 13 in gameplay. Or rather, he's just nameless amidst the Yellow Squadron.

>he didn't get a 360 just to play AC6
Incel.

The story of 5 almost made me drop it because of cheesiness. At least AC7 has interesting topics like drone warfare. I could do without the annoying Princess.

>escort an airplane through radars while nothing's happening
In AC 7 at least you don't have to escort anyone
>drop some bombs to destroy chemicals and then fire your machine gun at some slowly approaching helicopters
>follow pops for 10 minutes straight while your enemies pretend to chase you

>ignore reality and pretend yout $60 babby box DRMbox purchase has anything remotely to do with air combat because anime paedophile cartoons.

DRMbox fags, not ever once.

I like those low-burn missions aswell. They're a nice break of pacing from the constant 110% adrenaline kicks.

if he was named you run into the problem AC7 had with Mihaly where you'd have to give him a shit ton of plot armor or you'd kill him too early and the story would suck

>yfw
>Damned shield! Just go away!
>Be gone!

>PC
MUH HOTAS

Small team please understand

>no mission variety
Every mission sets you up with some new fucking gimmick like sandstorm, avoiding radar bubbles, bunker busting, thunderstorm, flying through a canyon, escort mission, having to fly under the clouds, not being able to use guns for half the mission, having to ID all units as enemies or friendlies one by one etc.

The tryhard variety is honestly fucking annoying. The missions where you just fuck shit up in a straightforward way like Farbanti or the navy destruction are the best.

bullshit, they managed to port the AC4 engine to the fucking PSP.

>missile alerts going ballistic, radar filled with drones, Arsenal Bird firing at you, radio chatter goes into overdrive with Daredevil blasting
One of the few times vidya became kino

Dude just emulate it. They emulate better than any shitty remaster will pull off anyways. Just follow the /aceg/ guide.

Doom 2016 was Serious Sam with a Doom 3 skin.

Played it on PC and gave it a positive review because it's a good game. I played the PS2 games years ago so I don't see why it would benefit from a flightstick when the games are designed around a controller.
People got super super super mad on the Steam forums when I pointed that. They got even madder when I told them that it was their fault for not reading about the series first.

Imagine being a loser that doens't want to upload his consciousness to internet

Attached: dmc502-800x526[1].jpg (800x526, 97K)

4 still doesn't work right, the physics are still a little wonky in all 3 and because pcsx2 is garbage you need a fucking supercomputer to run it.
The latest git pull doesn't even compile right now.
Fuck off. I'm all for emulation except when it comes to PS2.

You've evidently played neither Serious Sam nor Doom 3

>4 still doesn't work right
This is funny when I just emulated it flawlessly with the exception of a small black line around planes. Just follow the damn /aceg/ guide. It's all you need to do.

It's pretty impressive that Kono's team managed to get AC7 out with as much quality as it had despite its troubled dev cycle, but it really shows in the game. I hope 8 goes a lot smoother, because 7 was nearly the best game in the series despite being made in about a year.

>comeback is actually just sequel of the failed reboot

>pre ps2 Ace Combat
Fly through a thin canyon!
Disguise yourself as the enemy and bomb a town!
Fight a giant flying fortress!

>post ps2 Ace Combat

>AC7 is my first AC game
>loved it and is definitely my goty contender along with Sekiro
>people keep saying ps2 games are better
>emulate AC5
>it's so outdated and unplayable after playing the superior and mechanically more advanced AC7
Why is Yea Forums always wrong.

I played it faggot, and I wasn't even an AC fan back then

FFXV will never be anything but a failure that got that cuck tabata fired no matter how often you try and shitpost that game.

Every single post PS1 AC game has all of that though.

He's fucking right

Attached: qiOplX3.png (702x541, 86K)

Imagine being this desperate to find a boogeyman because DmC2 is a trash game that nobody even remembers 4 months after launch

both DMC5 and FFXV suck.

No he's a faggot and so are you, DCStard. The mission design is a highlight of the game and the fact that they're so long now is in 7's favor.

>because 7 was nearly the best game in the series despite being made in about a year.
One year? It was announced almost three years ago

>mechanically advanced
Nigga they all play the exact same as the first game on PSX, they just have prettier clouds now
Also I see tons of "it was my first X game, but I'm going to give my expert opinion on the series anyway" posts all over the internet nowadays from Yakuza and DMC to Re2 and I guess Ace Combat, where are you people all coming from?

You're just a poser. Don't bother with the other games and give your GOTY vote to Sekiro. Pretend Ace Combat doesn't exist.

This is why I hate when people recommends the series at this point in time.

They scrapped it several times during development and only started in earnest on the one we got late 2017/early 2018.

>Same old characters without any changes
>It's DmC2!
Real proof that brainlets do actually exist.

AC 7 has canyon flight and flying fortress fight

>I want dialog tree options

>HE HAS WHITE HAIR

>thinking DMC5 is a sequel to DmC at all

Attached: 1561700097675.jpg (520x514, 60K)

Really? I didn't know that, thank god it wasn't cancelled

3 had choices and it was a pretty cool game

Zero > 7 > 4 > 3JP > 6 > HAWX > 5 > 3US

DMC5 did it

There are some mechanics in AC7 that aren't in the trilogy. For instance clouds and shit. But also the hard steer where you press L2 and R2. And also planes control the best in Ace7. However, AC5 is still HIGHLY playable and responsive to this day. I don't think its gameplay has aged at all.

DMC >>>>> your shitty flight sim

Literally no idea where you're even going with this. The white hair bullshit was a subject that was cherry-picked by retard journalists anyway. People went into heavy detail as to why DmC sucked from the poor enemy variety, to the sluggish combos that couldn't be punished because very few enemies could hit skyward, to the combo style meter being based on damage instead of move variety, to enemies being immune to damage from certain weapons.

Because you retards keep recommending old series to people who never played them.
If someone hasn't played a Yakuza, DMC, Resident Evil, Earth Defense Force or Ace Combat yet, there is no reason to start now and you're doing yourself a disservice by trying to convince people into do it now.

>back from the dead
Was AC ever really dead
Most people may not have liked Assault Horizon but it still existed, and thus there were basically two and a half AC games during the previous console generation (AC6, AH and Infinity), plus the handheld games

>flight sim
Clueless retard

AC7 was an all or nothing game that would determine the fate of the series, thank fuck they didnt fuck it up

>But also the hard steer where you press L2 and R2.
High G is kinda boring in AC7 though. In AC6 it was way stronger but also murdered your speed so you could go from mach 2 to stalling in a few seconds. In AC7 it's so weak that I wasn't even sure it was working at first.

Assault Horizon came out in 2011. Between that and 2019, it's been eight-years. That's usually the sign of a franchise being dead.

>placing 5 that low
You're out of your mind man

>2011
Holy fuck, it sure doesn't feel that way

Hence the title Skies Unknown. They had no idea where it was going after this. Also in the intro movie, there is some meta commentary about them starting from scratch, on a new engine to keep up with modern technology.

Well, there was ACI. That surprisingly successful game, even if everyone hated the concept.
AC5 is actually pretty bad, even if it did give you feels when you were a kid.

Played it for the first time this week. It moved me. It was pretty touching despite its whackiness because there were touches of sincerity over it.

Do we know how many copies it sold? I fucking hope it did better than Assault Horizon

I think it sold best in the series.

Ace Combat was never alive. It's a niche series.

Holy shit that would be incredible
AC 4 sold more than 2 millions and if AC 7 is even close to that the series is entering the second golden age

youtube.com/watch?v=BRosMyUkQ3g

>AC6 sold like shit and got loads of DLC anyway
>AH sold okay and got loads of DLC
>AC7 sold really well but the only DLC it's getting is three planes and three maps. And not only are they really low effort, but the planes took forever to come out, and the maps don't even have a release date yet.
What the fuck, Bandai Namco? If the game is successful why aren't you supporting it? Do you not want money?

we now will have missions DLC

Unless it didn't recoup its budget.
It's a new title on a brand new engine so no PS2 asset recycling this time.

Near every damn musical track in AC7 is kickass

I love the recurring motif

Bruh, that's not Daredevil

It was a project that got restarted several times and wasn't outright cancelled due to cost sunk fallacy.
I wouldn't be surprised if Bamco ended losing money with it

Kono will always find a way to keep Ace Combat alive. The man is driven by raw passion for airplanes and technology.

AC 7 has probably the best soundtrack in the franchise

He was a plane way before that. Rena was just there to fly the Night Raven to kill people he didn't like.

No it wasn't.
Ace Combat isn't a flight simulator; it doesn't need a flight sick any more than a first person shooter requires an arcade flightstick.

If future Ace Combat games omit PC I'm directly blaming you.

I don't own a stick so I don't give a shit about not being able to use one, but it's really scummy to disable sticks other than the ones they sell. It's not like supporting them takes any work or anything, it's built in to Windows. They actually put effort into disabling sticks just to fuck with people. That's really bullshit even if it doesn't impact me at all.

The OST is fucking amazing

>Ace Combat with Dragons

So, Drakengard aerial sections with non-clunky gameplay?

Holy Shit!

This year was pretty cool, all things considered

People here believes that AC7 on PC was a mistake, but there is nothing far from truth.
A PC port ensures that a game will live forever. Meanwhile the PS2 trilogy and AC6 will be lost in time once the last PS2 dies and ps2 emulation proved to be impossible.

Attached: 1565980753052.jpg (483x600, 68K)

You can already emulate the PS2 trilogy near flawlessly.

However, so long as Ace Combat is on UE engine, it will always get a PC version since porting is so brain dead easy.

I thought emulation for 5 and 0 was pretty good

>ps2 emulation proved to be impossible.
How come I managed to play through the PS2 trilogy with minimal issues?

Not after the terrible reception of AC7 PC.
If there is an AC8 it will be console exclusive.

5 and 0 run great but 04 is a bitch to emulate.

AC3(JP) > AC4 > AC0 = ACX > AC5 = AC7 = AC2 > the rest.

Opinions on PS2 emulation are all over the place. All I can assume is that they tried it 5+ years ago, didn't work as flawlessly as they thought, then scrapped the whole idea.

just follow the /aceg/ guide.

Whatever you say user

Check out Dragonstrike for DOS, not the NES version. It even has a mission where you have to fly along a canyon to get to a target and you can't fly above a certain altitude or you get shot down.

Bought a PSVR, Creed and Astroboy are cool, DriveClub makes me dizzy, StarWars BF 1 misison isn't that bad, but I want more games, and this one seems better than another racer.

>best in the series

fucking idiot.

Attached: 01 - wsZ0MWW.jpg (500x354, 44K)

Was this game financially successful?

Also, I've only played the PS2 trilogy (4-6). What other games in the series are worth playing?

Attached: 497-4971308_name-feek-pepe-the-frog-overwatch.png (800x750, 387K)

2, 3 (JP with translation patch), X.

Also, the PS2 trilogy isn't 4-5-6. It's 4-5-Zero and 6 is a 360 exclusive. Both 6 and Zero are worth checking out.

3(jp), X and Assault horizon legacy are good
Just ignore the press x to nothing personnel in AHL
If you still want more, you could try joint assault but that one is a mixed bag

Skip AHL, the flight physics are really unfun. That's the main problem with JA as well. Original 2 is better.

Remember that this game basically was scrapped and had to be rebuilt in a year

>The best in the series
But this isn't the jap version of AC3

How's AC6 emulation?

You're right, it isn't!

>Best in the series

Fuck no. It's not bad it's not better than any of the PS2 trilogy or JP AC3, certainly not better than AC4 wish is THE best.

Attached: 1565546790888.jpg (1280x1280, 104K)

AC4's mission design is too repetitive and tedious, zero is the best game

Imagine being such a beta that even when you have sex you're cucking yourself

Zero is too short and lacking in worldbuilding

AC5 is the best game.

>repetitive and tedious

What is this buzzword bullshit? Every mission in AC4 is different.

Ace combat 3's US version is better. The story and branching missions in the JP version detracted from the gameplay.

That just makes it even dumber. At this rate it's going to take a whole year to finish the DLC maps. They can make the entire game in one year, but making three more levels (which aren't even original maps, they're just reusing the maps from the base game and changing the enemies) takes the same amount of time? How does that make sense?

Skeleton crew is doing the DLC while the real team is on AC8

Nigga come on. I played the PAL version of AC3 at the time and it was actually my favorite of the PS1 games easily but it's literally half a game. I had no idea how much i was missing, the JP version is contender for best in the series.

I hope the AC8 team doesn't work as fast as they did on AC7 then, or they'll release it before the 7 DLC is done.

AC5's missions are all too scripted and railroaded. If you cut out all the shitty missions the game would only be as long as Zero. Every one of Zero's missions is good.

Most missions in AC4 are just about ranking up enough points before the timer - which is way too fucking long - runs out. Having two or three of those (like in Zero) is fine but it gets old fast.

The long missions were my favorite ones in that game, especially since they actually took advantage of the rearming mechanic.

>the JP version is contender for best in the series.
This is a sentiment I see often about Ace Combat 3 and I'm not sure why. There's a reason Namco decided not to port over the "full" game, was because Japanese gamers didn't like it. It's similar to the love for Tiberian sun despite the majority of people agreeing at the time that it was a dud.

"Japanese gamers" are fucking retards with shit taste. They didn't like it purely because it had a futuristic setting and anime so it messed up their LARP. Namco's reaction was classic business suit idiocy, the game would have done so much better without it.

Attached: Shit taste.jpg (465x769, 188K)

>There's a reason Namco decided not to port over the "full" game, was because Japanese gamers didn't like it.
You pulled that DIRECTLY out of your ass. The reason the full game wasn't localised is because AC3 came out so late in the PS1's lifecycle that a full localisation wouldn't be done before the PS2 came out, this has been literally confirmed in an interview.

Please stop pretending to like ace combat 5 anons.

>You pulled that DIRECTLY out of your ass
AC3's sales were about the same as AC2's, despite costing a lot more to make. It was not well received in Japan.
It's perhaps the weakest of the PS2 games, but it is still excellent.

it's
>muh branching story
meme. Completely disregarding the fact that the flight mechanics and mission design are weak as fuck.

It's the weakest of the PS2 trilogy for sure

AC3 literally brought life back into AC's mission design you brainlet. So much so that every single game since has been recycling it's ideas. Do you just throw out fancy sounding terms to pretend your knowledgeable?

How is AC2's soundtrack so good?
youtube.com/watch?v=1VXVb2QDWXg
AC3 still has the only space mission in the francise. I need more of that

>Best

No, OK-level.

I don't understand how you can say it sold as well as AC2 and also claim it was badly received at the same time.

I don't know about best in the series because my computer is too poor for emulation, but AC7 probably is still my GOTY. It's been a long time since a game has engaged me like it has.

One of the random nameless mooks made a good point though, drones make war more palatable to our smooth combat brains. It's easy to dismiss violent acts when it was a machine that pulled the trigger.

Better mission structure? Maybe, huge battles were certainly a lot of fun and amazing to look at.
Better mission variety? Not a chance. Literally 90% of the missions in 6 were just huge messy battles with hundreds of targets to kill. I'm not saying these kind of missions are bad, just that they would have been more meaningful if they were spaced out a bit better with some smaller scale missions.

To be fair that's not actually the story of 4

AC3 is the out of place from all AC series (subtle clue shown from the HUD). It is also the most autistic of all stories
>Be an autistic jew

>that AI learned the ways to kill him as an AI pilot
>turns out that his crush is the one true villain.
