The hell are you on about? WoW was one of the first MMOs to popularize this and it absolutely is the worst fucking thing ever. It makes it so every single expansion, everything you did was pointless. Grinding Raids? PVP? None of it matters because the next time we create an xpac, we're going to delete all of that and level the playing field so new players can have a chance to be on equal footing. It made veterans and diehards repeatedly drop away over time because they knew there was no point in spending hundreds of hours grinding for the best gear when they would only get to use it for a handful of months before it was yanked away. Gear creep and progress resets in general were a clear alienation of their diehard fanbase and an embrace of casuals, which only got worse and worse until WoW became the mobile game it is today catering to literally nobody.

Getting to 40+ takes like 50-60 hours on average if memory serves and getting to 60 is nearly 120-150. The record for 1-60 was about 90-something hours in vanilla, that's a SELLING POINT, not a 'you don't realize how grindy it is'. Before WoW I played City of Heroes, which was another great classic MMO. That game was even grindier than WoW and you had to play at least 2 weeks /played to hit max level.

The game shut down, but like with WoW so many players had fond memories of it that some people managed to get their hands on the server code and private servers sprung up. The issue is, the private servers used a much later patch which added lots of "quality of life" features like XP boosts, travel powers from lvl 1, and the ability to design custom missions. So, I made a braindead full AoE character with capped Fire defense and farmed these missions with tons of mobs that only did fire damage. Took me 8 hours to reach max level, and about another 2 days playing to fully max out my character in terms of items.

All the magic I initially felt when playing the game was gone. There was no need to group up with people since solo grinding was more efficient. Planning out optimal leveling routes no longer mattered since you could travel anywhere almost instantly even on a brand new character. Selling services or manually trading was pointless since grinding and using the auction house was always quicker and more profitable. It was basically just a single player game where you occasionally saw another player running between the vendor and the custom mission portal.

I haven't played WoW again since original Classic, but I assume a similar thing occurred in WoW with the addition of flying mounts, LFR, and lots of other "quality of life" features.

What happened was new players in each expansion demanding their own “QoL improvements” and alienating the one before.
TBC is generally regarded as the best expansion because the features it implemented were as a result of Vanilla players’ feedback, even if those features were a mixed bag. Things started going to shit from there because the new players it attracted thought TBC was the baseline, and pushed even harder for their own changes.
Once cross realm dungeon finder had been added without Blizzard putting their foot down and rolling things back, the rest was a slow crawl into a coffin.

This is also why people are so adamant that no changes should be made. If the baseline never changes, people will always have the core of the game in mind, and won’t ask for retarded shit that puts a bullet in the community.

The devs have shown absolutely no indication that they will cater to people being retarded.

Theres a few different specs people play for resto. Deep resto, Enh totems, ele/resto, resto/ele, Full Retard Windfury totems. If you want to heal ele/resto or resto/ele are where you want to be, the difference being if your last point is in a big instant heal or a guaranteed crit on chain lightning every 3 minutes
