I think episodes 7 and 8 call for different types of people, I feel that the author tried to create an ending to pander both sides, the ones that wanted the magic to be real and the ones that wanted it to be all you know, a fabrication. In trying to create an ending for both sides it made it felt incomplete, at least for me, I wouldn't call it massive letdown but I'll say that it needed a little bit more of polish.
