I want to get into collecting for this big guy

I want to get into collecting for this big guy.
Is it even worth getting physical games or is OPL better?

Hope you enjoy never having the ability to read blue CD-ROM PS2 games. The fat PS2 was notorious for its shitty disc drive.

Some are absurdly expensive so unless you feel it necessary id just emulate the expensive ones

install fmcb on a memory card and burn games. supporting the 2nd hand game market is jewish

Can I do this on a slim?

yes

On any model except the 900xx models.

OPL saved my life

You’re going to destroy the laser doing this.
Just emulate, or get a bc PS3 and hack it

Its easier to do on a slim.

Do that and load off a HDD. Discs are not aging well. Or just make an emulation machine it will be cheaper than buying a crap load of discs that will eventually oxidize if they were cheaply made or flawed or resurfaced one to many times.

OPL get a 2tb hdd and you can have all the games you would ever want to play

If FAT, get a network adapter, IDE to SATA conversion kit, and a 2 TB HDD (last part is preference, but fairly cheap nowadays and the max a PS2 will read.)
OPL or HDLoader will do.

Does OPL work with every game?

It's worked with every game I've tried. and I've got over a hundred installed on my PS2's HDD. The only trouble I ever had was with running Konami's LifeLine, which didn't like being run from HDD but was fine being run off of the network share.

How do you do this with a slim? Isnt the load times awful through usb?

never attempt to USB load, USB loading is garbage and the slowest method by far. those usb ports are anchient usb 1.1.

OpenPS2Loader supports USB, SMB(network) and HDD loading. if your system is a slim and cannot use an HDD then you should go for network loading. Network loading is slightly slower than HDD, but nowhere near as slow as USB. putting it about on par with loading from physical DVDs.

I have my slim set up to load games from SMB, all that you need it a freemcboot memory card with OpenPS2Loader installed, a crossover Ethernet cable and a PC to host the ISO files.
all you need to do is configure OpenPS2Loader, plug the console into your PC with the cable and it will stream the game data over the Ethernet cable from a shared folder on your computer

Help a brainlet out
Fatal Frame has problems in PCSX2, including an unbeatable end boss because of some glitch
However if I use that same ISO file on a real PS2, would those issues go away?

I really wanna play Way of the Samurai 1-2 but I only got a super slim PS3, has technology improved to the point where I can actually hack this damn thing?

why not try it out?

3.55 and below has been soft moddable fir for forever. I think a recent discovery may have bumped that number up. Just mod and emulate

Oh thank fuck. Guess I know what I’m doing tonight. Since were talking about hacking, how doable is the WiiU? Do I need to do cumbersome shit like keeping a magnet beside or anything? I wanna complete the Fatal Frame series finally

Yes. Every PS3 is hackable.

I'd say probably. The issue glitch likely stems from some quirk in teh emulation, so using your save file on real hardware would eliminate this factor.

there was recently a breakthrough in that regard. later slims and super slims that for years could not have custom firmware are now somehow able to be softmodded, i'm not sure about the particulars, but the info on /hbg/ on /vg/ links to this guide:
>psx-place.com/threads/update-ps3hen-v2-3-1-view-latest-changes-to-the-ps3-exploit-for-superslims-noncfw-models.23955/

All you need is an SD card and a NDS eshop game that the homebrew launcher can use as camouflage.
If you live in PAL territories then you can just download Brain Age/Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training for free, but if you're a burger then you'll have to buy one

Do you want to collect or do you want to play?

Nothing wrong with collecting (i got all the shmups for the system), but if you want to just play the incredible endless PS2 library my preferred method is to use the fat PS2 with an internal hard drive. 150 games accessible at any time.

Attached: 43804_front.jpg (640x910, 92K)

No
There are lists out there

>would those issues go away?
It's hard to say. Have you tried a different iso?
Do you have a ps2 (fat preferably)? Last year I did a playthrough of fatal frame (maybe project zero - cant remember) on my fmcb fat ps2 and it was fine. You can also transfer your save over via usb using the fmcb file manager - although I've never done this.

I should add that the ds game isn't strictly necessary, but the alternative is having to open a web page in the wiiu's browser every time you want to access the homebrew launcher. and the page crashes 6 out of 7 times so sometimes you can be waiting quite a while before it works

Wii U is hacked to shit up to latest fw. You have to spend a bit on eshop once.

Nintendo had a bug in their 3ds and wii u eshop that let's you download games straight from their server. They patched on 3ds but didn't even care enough in wii u to. Just download all your games from the eshop.

You can also use external drives and inject wii games into wii u vc. Gcn can even be injected with Nintendont as vc.

Mine is loaded. It's great

Thanks all. What about the issue of storage for WiiU? I know games like XCX take up 20gigs alone on my 32gb, is the SD card supposed to be the solution for that?

so far I've just been cramming my games onto my sd card one at a time. But I'm fairly certain that if you want more games then you should connect an external hard drive via the USB ports and play games off of that. same as with the original Wii

OPL is hit and miss, especially through USB

I use one of these and a 500gb laptop drive and have the same for the wii

Definitely play

>he usb loads in 2019
Stop it. Why would you do that to yourself?

Nigga just get a crossover Ethernet cable for five dollars and stream the ISOs in from your PC. it's faster and you won't have horribly stuttering cutscenes anymore.

Anyone got a list of good places to buy the peripherals like the HDD from?

Now that all the stupid questions got answered - what have you actually been playing on ps2 lately?

Aight thanks lads. I’ll get cracking

Once I get all this going I'm going to play Ape Escape 3

Want to replay Code Veronica and perhaps try getting into Front Mission 4.

I just use a 1TB Western Digital Blue, you can get them anywhere. I use this adapter from banggood to attach it.

Right now I've been going through Steambot Chronicles for the fifth or so time.
Going for a coward personality run this time where I bitch out of fights wherever possible, some hearty laughs were had so far.

Attached: Steambot_Chronicles_Coverart.png (220x312, 165K)

listen you dumb fucking niggers, go with the network method, it sucks to have to constantly unplug-take out-attach to your PC whenever you want to add games to the hard drive. Sure, you can connect to the network regardless and then dump isos onto the hard drive over the network cable but that defeats the purpose of the hard drive.
also hard drives are noisy as shit

network or bust

>Sure, you can connect to the network regardless and then dump isos onto the hard drive over the network cable but that defeats the purpose of the hard drive.
what fucking logic is that? how is installing it once over the network at all comparable to being crippled by network speeds all the time?
are you retarded?

>He doesn't have an ssd in his ps2
look at this plebeian and laugh

Attached: 1536505604875.png (745x726, 441K)

>crippled by network speeds

Except you are not and it loads just as fast with zero noise? You silly nigger.

The Playstation 2's network interface is even slower than its disc drive let alone its hard drive interface retard.

I literally haven't had a single slowdown, choppy video or any sort of inconvenience in years that I've used the network method. I have a slim ps2, not the fat one with the network adapter.

Do you even have any first hand experience or are you just larping?

PS2 is a great console to collect for. It looks pretty good with good component cables on an modern TV. It has a massive library so you can find any sort of game type youd enjoy.

Aside from very rare or special games almost every game in the library can be had for under 50 bucks.

If you live in a city, people are constantly selling PS2 games and consoles, you should be able to find one cheap. And the collectors market is ripe for good picks, I got Silent Hill 2 for 10 bucks off a guy on Facebook Marketplace.

Just run an Ebay search for "official ps2 network adapter" and "ps2 network adapter SATA upgrade kit"
Or you could save yourself some money and get an unofficial Chinese network adapter with SATA by default, the only problem is that you won't be able to ftp games onto the hard drive or play games online. and you'll have to remove the HDD and connect it to your PC to add games.

The HDD itself can be any old hard drive back in the day they sold official ones but the homebrew software you'll be using to play games off of them won't care

You're all giant faggots.

You're missing out on having a nice collection of near mint games complete with manuals on your shelf that you can take down and look at and it's a physical object with value. "B-But paying money is gay". You can get a decent PS2 game collection for under $100. I'm talking 10-15 classics that'll keep you busy for at least a year. "B-But disc rot!" Not a thing that actually ever happens, it's a myth. "B-But it's easier with HDD and I can play everything!" You end up playing nothing because you're paralysed by choice retards. "B-But load times!" PS2 load times are never unreasonable, you ADHD child.

Get a HDD or stream from your PC if you want to be a shit taste pleb, you're missing out on the enjoyment of a physical collection.

Compatibility is just less reliable all around. Midnight Club 2, for example, has shitty audio when played over SMB. Parappa 2 had horrible audio sync issues. Ratchet 3 just didn't work no matter what I tried.
I tried out all four methods, loading straight from the HDD is easily the best. Compatibility is the best and performance is the best. Unironically playing over the network is slimfag cope.

>You end up playing nothing because you're paralysed by choice retards

The degree of mental gymnastics you are applying just to rationalize to yourself the fact that you are an aspie is impressive.

Ratchet 3 works for me, didn't try the other two. HDD is also not flawless, on network I've encountered a handful of games that don't work but 99% of them did.

Kill yourself pleb

I don't have the space and I'd rather spend my money on shit I can't effortlessly pirate thanks.

c'mon user, try the digitalpill.
You forget that digital means that you can modify the files. I've played plenty of games that were never translated into English and probably never will be thanks to the efforts of fan-translators.
You're missing out on great games like Shadow Tower abyss and mountains of undubs.
Not to mention the ability to play Resident Evil: Outbreak online, something you can't do anymore since the official servers were shut down

Attached: 1535930974135.jpg (320x320, 12K)

Either or
You can emulate or head down to a flea market and get physical games for 1-2$ each
The PS2 is a good system to own but stick with the slim and stay away from the fat

>Last Raven is $45
Fuck

It was $60 on release, what's the problem?

You think every game that's old is only worth $5?

buy official network adapter and this bad boy
