How the fuck do I git gud at this game, Yea Forums? I've tried to play this three times and I never had enough resources to do anything after I liberate Drassen. I really want to get into this game because it has so many cool mechanics, but I am an utter brainlet at it.

To be honest, I think it would be best to start with the plain JA2 and move up to 1.13 later. Practically every JA2 player swears by 1.13, but that's because they were playing the vanilla game for a decade straight beforehand. I think 1.13 might be a bit much to jump straight into if you've never played JA2 before.

Once you liberate Drassen, sit and train militia until you've filled up every sector will light blue militia. You'll be accomplishing something while still earning money from the mine. You DO talk to the head miners so that you get income from them, right?
If you're losing money even after you've liberated the mine, you're using too many mercenaries, or the mercenaries you're using are too expensive. You don't need more than a few guys early on.

The SAM bases are kind of tough, actually. I'd wait a bit before trying to take them. When it comes to good, cheap mercenaries, hmmm...it's been a few years since I played the game, so I can't quite remember where everyone's price level is, but I know Grunty and Buns are both good. MD's shooting is a bit weak but he's so smart that he'll improve quickly. You'll need to wait a few days to get Razor from MERC but he's almost certainly the most bang for your buck you'll get out of them. Don't forget to create your custom IMP merc, either.
One tip: Fighting at night is almost always effective if you have someone with Night Ops (like Grunty) or some NVGs. It's useful all throughout the game, but even more so early on because all of your weapons have such short effective ranges.

I want to play this game so fucking much. I played it last year on a laptop with the 1.13 mod and was having a blast, but when I tried to play it on my new Desktop it just won't run and no troubleshooting fixes it.
I had the same thing happen with the game Antichamber as well. It's definitely not hardware related because I rebuilt and reinstalled windows like 3 times. I think Win10 just releases updates that breaks games.
