It's really repetitive, but in a mindless fun sort of way, not too tedious. My only complaint is that it's entirely too easy because you're invulnerable 70% of the time. The visuals are pleasing, the music is fantastic, and I don't mind that's it's some noncanon goofy shit because with all the characters it's like a kid mashing their figures together, it really feels like a celebration of the whole series and I'm mad we didn't get a sequel that featured the subsequent arcs.

I wouldn't say hapless. They have all been surviving on an island for 1,000 years with treacherous terrain and hordes of hostile wildlife. Matoran are just regular people and inevitably 90% of NPC's would have to be Matoran villagers, while players would be the more bold traveling ones.
I still think it would be a neat mechanic to have Toa, but keep them rare. There should only be a handful per server and they should be able to sacrifice their power to make someone else a toa, in exchange for some sort of immortalization on a big memorial of heroes or something. That way it would be a big event to witness.
To prevent circlejerking and clan faggotry cheating the system, Perhaps there could be a mechanic where you don't actually directly choose who your power goes to.

If it was up to me would try to include almost as many as there are cannonically. Realistically just a handful of the most iconic ones and base their abilities and tree branches around what is known in the lore about them

Slizers had goofy lore.
Although one side of the world was "good" and the other was "evil" (as well as the colosseum), very little of their stories actually had anything to do with any of that. Basically all of them fought a personal nemesis (e.g. a lava beast, a giant cephalopod, etc.) except for Jet, and their stories, even for the good ones, just explicitly focused on essentially saying "X slizer has to DESTROY their enemies and they fight to KILL" rather than any sort of goal. They did end up doing the whole thing at the colosseum but in the end none of it mattered because not only was half the planet entirely obliterated, the only slizers that mattered at the end were the Millenium Slizer and his foe. They never even got a conclusive end.
Personally I have Jet, Torch, Ski, and part of Electro, they're pretty neat. Jet has the most functionality but Ski is the best one because of how fun he is to pose.

Ironically enough the lore does still get some minor additions because one of the writers (and no, unfortunately not Faber) still visits bionicle forums.

Tbh I always thought the Nuva (and especially their masks) were rather ugly and inferior in design to the Mata, even as a kid, and the Metru didn't have enough to make them stand out, even in comparison to the usually samey bodies of the Mata.
However, you missed the Toa Mahri, which are rad as fuck. Equipped with deep sea gear and revolving rocket launchers, they're pretty damn cool. Like the other user said, both them and the Barraki (mutant sea monstermen) are fucking great, and have pretty unique designs, like one that has a skinny body, glow in the dark skull, and mantis-like claws, or one with a body that can be folded to look like a shark.
The Makuta of the Phantoka and Mistika lines were also pretty neat, incorporating batlike and insectile monster motifs into their designs (stay away from the Toa though, they look like shit for the most part, except maybe Lewa's).
The vehicles of the Glatorian era were pretty decent as well, especially the colossal Skopio XV-1, a giant scorpion mecha that morphs into a tank.

Krika was less battle oriented than Gorast.
Gorast herself was a psychotic zealot who was described as loving to discuss "dismemberment, slaughter, carnage, and decapitation" and was hyper offense oriented, with even a mask that was designed to fuck people up (also the mask power was what she used to kill Krika, making his natural tangibility power go out of control, making him just fade out of existence).
Krika in comparison was just a discontented member of Teridax's force because everyone who didn't (apart from Miserix) was rounded up and put to death on the spot. His mask was what he used to fly around, rather than supplement his offenses, and he never performed any serious offensive strikes, only pinning down Gali to try and get her to leave the swamp so Teridax's plan would be foiled. Much less battle oriented, and his last action was trying to save his comrades from the hellfire, who executed him right there.
