how do I properly play as a mage in this old sack of shit

You don't. Sorcerer or bust Arisen.

you need to be a mage to become a sorcerer dickshit

>Mage Arisen

Basically doesn't exist. Play Sorceror or a Hybrid. Mage is a pawn's job.

It sucks. I assume you're doing it for the attunement augment. Just have good pawns.
"No"

game sucks

Its easy as shit. Just assign different kinds of damage spells to one side of the staff and some utility like the enchantments & healing to the other side

Probably make your pawn more of a bodyguard for you though.

Gee man, whats it like eating shit all the time.

Make a musclebound shemale
Choose all loli pawns
That's pretty much all you can do in this game. Unless you want to reverse the roles and play as a loli with a party of amazonesses

yo do you have a place with a bunch of celebrity templates?

I rather be a shota surrounded by milkers

Go tall male sorcerer, Only wear nice looking things like the alchemic tunic and maybe a nice cloak. Long robes are for fags. Use holy affinity and click the stick to cast it on yourself, charge a normal attack and watch it track everything. Use glicel on everything big.

Save the fat merchant to buy demon's periapt (stack 4 times). Make a cute waifu pawn and name her after a color, try to get her wearing that color and show her hair. Easy game.

but robes are comfy

So are warm blankets and flasks of hot chocolate but if you show up to the duke wearing that he'll call you an asshole.

He will?

Yeah you have to dress fine. Make a boy with chest and give him a shirt to show it off. They'll respect the simplicity.

can I put a woman's dress on a big dudebro?

Yeah. It's in storage or sold by the forger in the city. Show them your bosom and break those stereotypes.

Aught.

I recommend that you don't, stick with a melee/bow character instead, magic is for pawns as few enemies are weak to it so going melee with enchantments is the way to go

Shit advice. Everything is viable in DD.

Look at this unfabulous poster and laugh.

Attached: qg6BWT0.jpg (1920x1080, 518K)

You don't. Mage is a pawn class.

How do you play the game at all without holding buttons?

Did they ever add Travis Touchdown like they promised yet?

3 words user
Holy Focused Bolt

That doesn't count because you have to hold buttons.

Keep that ring that cuts casting time. I think you can clone it and hand in the copy.
Have one pawn with your favourite spells so that you dualcast or whatever it's called.

What the fuck was her problem?

mages are shit tier in the fun department and dd's combat is spammy garbage with no depth. the proper way to play a mage is just use spam basic staff charge attacks enchanted with whatever you're fighting is weak against. the actual spells are slow and random

>enable
you mean use mods. this is not the intended way to play

dd is a garbage game that is only relevant because it's a loli creator simulator. awful quests, awful flashy combat with no depth, awful world design. bad bad bad

Please talk about Mercedes' game!!
Probably being the daughter of a man that sells tentacle monster arrows. In Dragon's Dogma 2 she joins the female-only bandits.
You're objectively wrong overall, but you're right that the only mainstream attention this game got was because of people fucking around with the character creator. This is a niche game and all of the 'fun' beyond making a giant green idiot is essentially walled-off because of how obtuse it is, especially to new players.
There's plenty of genuine criticism to levy against it, but none of the things you mentioned qualify.
However I'm curious, what are some games you think do those things well?>overrated Yea Forums circlejerk game

damn I'm jelly

i can’t stop playing this game and idk why. can’t quite put my finger on it.

i wouldn’t call it good but i’m having a lot of fun. there’s so many annoying quirks but i feel charmed.

It has a lot wrong with but a lot right with it as well. Hopefully we get DD2 which fixes a lot of the problems.

I had kinda same experience. It felt underwhelming and kinda boring until suddenly I liked it despite nothing changing for the better.

It's a slow-burn character progression focused arpg.
So it's incredibly "more-ish" in spite of its flaws. The videogame equivalent to a giant tube of Pringles.

none of my criticisms are wrong though, quit being delusional. the combat has no depth and it is spammy because the limited amount of buttons and how you can use curatives during combat. the best solution to every fights is either spamming your fold arrow attack or spam staff charges. climbing is a gimmick that is never used except when forced. the quests are also objectively garbage. then bbi released chasing the dark souls audience filled with pure aritificial difficulty health sponge enemies there weren't hard, only annoying. in addition to this turned the loot into a fucking slot machine. game sucks, faggot. give up. literally the only reason cares is because it's a loli creator simulator. weeaboo subhuman newfag trash is incapable of being honest about anything

Attached: UoVlnNk.jpg (1920x1080, 362K)

You're not wrong, except for calling climbing a gimmick. It's very useful for melee characters. Also saying the combat has strictly no depth is silly.

Pawns win solitude.

Kindly fuck off.
Everyone knows the game has shit smeared on it. Still doesn't make what's underneath any less fun. Dark Souls and Sekiro wish they could be half as charming and FUN.

>playing that shit.

I've been thinking of doing playthrough with magical shota surrounded by muscle girls for ages but I just always end up going for melee classes myself.

Im enjoying playing magic archer but the actual magic bow does NO FUCKING DAMAGE. Daggers are fine. But my bow does shit damage, have unlocked mass attacking and the bolt that bounced but again, i do no damage. How do i fix this?

>delusional
I'm perfectly fine admitting that it's a niche game with flaws, I said you were objectively wrong not that the game is objectively good.
>combat has no depth
science etc
>spammy [...] limited amount of buttons
So playing the game a certain way makes it less enjoyable? Maybe stop spamming the same skills and try other vocations. As for amount of buttons, what kind of criticism is that anyway? Yes, some skills are overpowered--the game doesn't force you to use them. Dragon's Dogma is the poster child of games that encourage you to do whatever you want even if it isn't optimal.
>climbing is a gimmick
You're given a different way of dealing with enemies and you choose not to use it; that makes it a gimmick?
>garbage quests
This, and combat, is where I most wanted to see examples of games you think are better. The quests in dogma are at-worst mediocre, the vast majority of games don't do any better. Unless you're just referring to the "kill X of Y" quests, in which case it's important to differentiate between sidequests and notice board kill quests.
>BBI dark souls audience
>turned loot into slot machine
>weeaboo subhuman newfag
You really are just regurgitating the hivemind opinion. Points for toting your party-line, but that last comment just makes you sound like an indoctrinated bot of a human.
The Dark Souls reference raises a fair point though that you glossed over completely, Dogma has very similar flaws to Dark Souls and Yoko Taro games, but both of those managed to get some widespread appeal. Do you shit up those threads too? Again, what is a good game in your opinion? Dogma has a certain charm for some players and clearly had some passion put into it, it shares that with these other games but it lacked something cohesive for people to latch onto.

now that is a fat green ass

>BBI
>artificial difficulty
You're not supposed to fight the prisoner cyclops and Death the first time around. Git gud, faggot.

I disagree with your criticism about every fight being just spamming one thing. That only happens with a few classes in a few instances, where they're particularly gimped, or if they have one particularly cheesy, powerful ability.
Most of the melee classes do not suffer the latter issue.
I completely agree with the side quests being garbage, and spamming curatives being way too easy and effective, particularly late game where you're essentially invincible because you have a million wakestones.

I still love the hell out of it, and it's my personal favorite game of all time, but there's just some unknowable element that just clicks with people for some reason.
It either clicks, or it doesn't, it's flawed as hell, but what areas work, work really fucking well.

Attached: For (You).png (635x665, 230K)

It's Skyrim but with SOUL

Draw your pawn.

prisoner cyclops is fun to fight the first time around though. death is never fun because pawns are like lemmings to him.

Sorcerers are so fun until you get this overpowered pos. Petrifying shit to death and watching your enemies crumble is much more satisfying.

Ninefold bolt
Explosive bolt
Equanimity

Get the wyrmkings ring
Get the autonomy skill (get rid of pawns they're useless) and magic damage increase skill. Take the time to cast equanimity 4 times and you'll tear through everything like it's a tissue.

How important is minmaxing. I didnt realize people dont hit 200 until ng+ fuck that i dont want to wait that long to play MA

Equipment is most important for your stats so don't worry about it too much.

It's important that you ignore it and focus on having fun. Gear trumps stats.

Death forces you to forget about your pawns, just remember your first oh shit moment with him when you didn't know if it was better to backtrack to a previous riftstone or rush forward, because you're used to always having a full party. And then you have to ditch them completely in order to fight him.

The """"help"""" that pawns give you is worthless compared to the damage increase gained from autonomy. Besides in all my playthroughs I've never enjoyed training my pawns. It's tedious and mostly unecessary. I'm tired of those cunts curing their drenched state with panaceas while standing in water, crying about petrification even though they have a secret softener in their inventory, aggroing dragons so they run at me when casting I'm castig a spell, having mage pawns run up to enemies and whack them instead of healing, etc. It's not worth it. I enjoy having my own pawn around but that's about it.

its not about the help. its about holding the poor retarded pawns hands and helping them learn stuff. helping randoms by letting their pawns earn crystals.the game is way too easy and boring if you minmax. pawns have soul.

and besides autonomy isnt -that- good. its only +20% damage.

20% applied to the 20000 damage I'm already doing is quite good actually. Anyway let's be real babysitting those idiots stopped being fun after the first playthrough. The only time I was ever happy to have a pawn around was when it shot an arrow straight into a drakes heart, and that's it. Never happened again. The only time I ever needed one was when fighting an iron golem in the everfall. Instead of destroying the one floating talisman left the little cunt only shot it once and then went back to bouncing around the room randomly. I just deck her out in endgame gear and rent her off to whatever sucker wants her.

Aren't there like enemies that totally resist one type of damage (magic or physical) so you kind of have to have a magic pawn if you're a physical damage dealer or vice-versa?

t. never played but been in the backlog for years

thats only really true for physical. the only magic immune enemy are the metal golems but you can kill their talismans with the instant death spell very easily.

trying to kill ghosts as pure physical however..

First time playing, I started with Strider but can't decide whether to go with Ranger or Assassin afterwards. My worry is that Ranger might be too passive, just hanging back and firing from safety.

>run into first BBI room
>fight great gobbos and gorechimera

>kill garm

Do all base classes before going hybrid so you have access to the skills

Thanks, will do. Even Mage?

Sometimes it's really entertaining to find pawns that have that vibe.
Naturally this isn't the first Hitler I found, but the Tiara of Enlightenment was a nice touch.
I had this one lvl.6 mage pawn, mitigator/acquisitor I think, with BBI gear named Healing Slut. Kept her in the party well into the 40's or something, wanted to send her off with a nice gift and high rating but unfortunately she got brine'd.

Which reminds me, a lot of people go for utilitarian/challenger/medicant(or mitigator) for their sorcerer/ranger, but I prefer challenger/utilitarian/medicant for the little bit of extra aggression. So, my pawn has a c/u/m inclination.

Attached: 20190807201827_1.jpg (1920x1080, 361K)

Just go Assassin. Assassin is EZ modo on many, many levels.
>character stat growth rates are optimized by default
>no need for class-switching at all for optimized loadouts
>access with both tanking, ranged and dps getups
>infinite chaining with Instant Reset

The only downside is that light armour looks like fucking garbage in DD. But then, every class looks like garbage in post Everfall/BBI gear.

It's worth it, but a chore.

Assassin is kind of overrated, maybe because it's the goto for solo players. That said, it does have a lot of versatility and stat growths that benefit almost every other vocation; sort of a glass cannon though, which ties into:
>high level gear looks bad
There are exceptions but I mostly agree, which is why it's nice to have core stats that can compensate for purposefully choosing weaker gear.
Defense is more important than HP, but it's about a 50/50 between core stats and armor (until the really high level stuff of course). So spending some time as a vocation with higher defense growth can be worth it you know you care more about fashion than the raw numbers. This can of course all be ignored if one prefers simplicity.

By light armor do you mean -literally- the stuff that fills the torso armor slot? Because yeah absolutely, I've struggled to find stuff that looks good to fill that slot. Leather vest(?) is okay if you have daggers and wear a cloak that covers those dangly tassels on the left shoulder.
