Pretty much the only thing they should do is prevent dev's from using steam as free advertisement before springing an exclusivity deal but i'm not sure how they'd do that.

Epic isn't taking over shit, it's a terrible excuse for a digital distributor with plenty of issues they can't or are unwilling to change and they are resorting to the scummiest market techniques to stay relevant.
They are sinking gigantic amounts of cash in the hopes that it will pay off in the future but that hinges on Devs actually switching over and giving them exclusivity, something that might not work for long. Borderlands 3 might be their last serious push there and if it fails, it's over for them.

Epic Games simply cannot make games anymore, gave up on Unreal Tournament after it did it's job as a tech demo for their engine and they noticed it would never be as profitable as Fortnite.
Once Fortnite began losing popularity, they thought it would be a great idea to sink it's capital into digital distribution to try and make money with no effort ala Valve. Too bad they are terrible at that, egocentric as fuck and half chinese at that too.

Maybe one of two things:
1. Valve has a weird structure that won't allow them to react quickly to any threat (their organization is a mess, google it).
2. If they did anything it would be seen as a victory for Epic ("see guys? these changes are because of us!"), why interrupt Epic while they are spending money on exclusives and making people mad?

This, EGS is making an ass of themselves.
No one likes exclusivity, even if valve has their own exclusive titles, they don't force or buy exclusivity from other developers if EPIC wanted their own games to remain exclusive, fair enough, but to try and corner the market is a dick move.

His company has objectively the better experience with more features and a bigger playerbase. Only when one of those two isa threatened does Valve need to be worried, otherwise they are just playing the waiting game.
