What went so wrong with hearthstone?

What went so wrong with hearthstone?

The game is exactly the same it has always been.

Shit like
>Start of Game: If your deck has no other card with the word “Random” on it, randomly play a random card until a hero dies. Then choose a random player to either win or lose randomly

And slowly sneaking the price up by devaluing packs and preorders

Easy whale money corrupted Blizzard.

>Old legendary
8/8 minion for 8, deal 8 to a random minion or player
>Nu-Stone
Pay 8 mana, recast all battlecrys including cloning the minion create 8 copies and make them playable for 1 mana which instawins the duel

It might be just me, but the game was way bette when the strongest 4 mana minion was a 4/5 effectless yeti.

they got greedy. that's it.

it doesn't matter how stale or random the games stays. the playerbase left in droves because they got too jewish.

they cycle out older sets every year so your money spent becomes wasted when you can't use your cards anymore

they only make main sets now instead of the cheap raid sets where you would 100% get all the cards from the set

raising the price of pack bundles/preorders even when they see people dropping the game

The only new multiplayer mode they ever added is Tavern Brawl which is terrible. I actually can't believe that after 4 years most tavern brawls still just give 1 pack for the first win and don't have any kind of ranking/leaderboard. Also it's only available on certain days of the week for no discernible reason.

They should have added more social features for people to communicate with each other in game and play with their own rulesets. Hearthstone wouldn't have seen a tenth of its success if it wasn't for Twitch replacing the need for the game to include its own social features.

Since they fucked bladeflurry i completely lost faith in the game. I had actually spent real money in the game, but never since.
After the druid nerf to classic cards too i just stopped playing.

They actually managed to fix tavern brawls like a month ago so now you can play it any day any time, but yeah it's retarded how long it took them to fix that.
The only fun mode is Arena, and even though I hate the game, I still come back to play Arena.
If you're good enough, you can pretty much play Arena 24/7 without spending a dime.
Which is what I do.

The real problem is Hearthstone wasn't [re[ared to succeed. Without planned rotation of the base set they left themselves with a power creep that's unsustainable. This means that SOME cards get nerfed and SOME cards get retired. It also makes it infinitely more difficult to step into Hearthstone, because you'll need a collection from X point forward, AND the base set. Imagine a newbie opening a silvanas they can't even use in standard as their first legend.

Ben Brode left.

That man was the fucking heart and soul of RNGstone. Anybody who says "the reveal streams are just as good!" after he left is a lying faggot.

Nothing went wrong really. People have just moved on because a lot of streamers don't play it anymore. I still enjoy a couple of games here and there.

Can’t afford to split the player base into a bunch of new modes when you’re hemorrhaging players. It wouldn’t kill them to add some kind of custom match thing for friendlies like the mode in Overwatch. And an AI sandbox mode to test meme combos

>Hearthstone wouldn't have seen a tenth of its success if it wasn't for Twitch replacing the need for the game to include its own social features.
Also this. I bet streamers buying 1000 packs per expansion is 75% of their income

Everyone moved to Gwent

Heathstone is doing great. It makes tons of money for blizzard which is their main goal. What? Did you think developers make games for the fans?
get real faggot

too much rng

Blizzard refuses to add new content outside of shitty expansions and ignores their fanbase. This would be fine for Blizzard since players have no where else to g-

The continue to make the base set smaller and with worse cards. I wish they would have kept a handful of cards that were from certain sets as basic cards.

neutral cards were the biggest mistake they made

Powercreep is inevitable. So as someone that hasn't played in about two years, the idea of playing again only to get smashed by newer sets is pretty unappealing. Makes it very hard to want to play again.

standard

Save the best for last!

>implying
MTGA surely has an impressive amount of delusional fanboys willing to defend it, but it's same shit from a different butt.

>Kripp is still playing this game
Jesus dude move on.

Card generation effects spiraling out of control and turning the game from a slightly RNG heavy, over-simplified TCG into a glorified casino.

Brode and a majority of good devs left and blizzard started milking the game.
The game was going downhill since nax then up with reno.
They made everything based on legendary and they become worthless after a bit.
Before you could spend 20 dollars in pack but now you have to do 200 dollars with each expansion. Adventures were basically free

god playing against control warrior is the worst, every time they have an answer and boom just gives them limitless value.

MTGA is more f2p/light buyer friendly and has a metric fuckton of game modes. Meanwhile hearthstone has fuck all since 2014 and is somehow more expensive. 2018 was extremelly boring, 2019 has been even worse.
Un'goro was the last good expansion.

Basically the monetization aspect of it. Its a game designed for microtransactions.

Microtransactions are cancer for a game-- you no longer design the game with "Fun/good" as your top priority, but "Money".
Even if the devs try hard, that aspect will forever taint the game and subtly push decisions down a bad road for quick cash.

This means that cards made down the line will inevitably be designed to generate sales first, and be balanced second.

There's something about Blizzard's fanbase that's just inherently drawn to optimize anything resembling fun out of their playstyle. Give them a casual game like Hearthstone, and they'll insist on turning it into an eSport it should never have been, then complain when the game gets boring after they've decided the best way to play the game is to autopilot a 51% win rate braindead aggro deck for 16 hours a day. Blizzard is then forced to make "fun" cards dominate the meta to save what little "fun" there's left to be had in their husk of a game.

the fact that a card like this exists before a card that lets you do anything with cards that have been discarded

Attached: renounce-darkness-hd.png (567x811, 627K)

Yeah, I think last year Hearthstone was actually second behind overwatch. This game prints money.

Dear god.
Is hearthstone even big on twitch anymore? I know it took a big hit on youtube.

yea move on to a chad game like poe

I'm suiting up!
Save the best for last!
Light the fuses!
[Armor up sounds]
Save the best for last!
Save the best for last!
[Armor up sounds]
*ting ting*
Save the best for last!
This story deserves a new ending!

Pretty much this.

They took absolutely no risk and just wanted to cash in.

Now that MTGA is a serious competitor, they better do something or this is over.

Never played the game but I always enjoyed watching Kripp videos reviewing new cards. Then I abruptly stopped for some reason.

>strongest card is the credit card
>no trading
>massive noob tax
it was basically a mobile game

He was a hack to be honest.

I remember where you could play a deck that used skill mostly control decks. There are some random decks but they were not broken.
Now everything is based on rng and you win or lose on the first turn.

Blizzard has done nothing to the game except add new card packs every now and then because the game prints money.

Renounce darkness did nothing wrong and neither did his little brother Explore Un'Goro

card games are inherently Esports man.

Their progenitor game is Magic the gathering and that is THE tournament "Spend to win" card game.
You can't blame that on the fanbase when that's literally been at the game genre's core since inception.

you can't open sylvanas in packs anymore, retard

Didn't Blizz cuck out this game to communist China? No backbone whatsoever.

you can't open hall of fame cards

We still don't really know how much their appeal to China factors into it, but they have started altering card art and whatnot to tone down on the blood and sex appeal
RIP succubus, you will be missed

Attached: 7qBFbvV[1].png (525x395, 422K)

when they nerfed patron, a consistently winning deck that 100% rewarded player skill instead of lucky RNG bullshit

Attached: 4fd545b78e41d6a207aca6a509d475e90e9756bf_00.jpg (286x395, 28K)

the game isn't granular enough in all aspects so if you keep on just printing cards you'll end up with all the ailments it's currently experiencing:
meta being resolved faster and faster
release burn out times come by quicker
busted decks have no counterplay and necessitate nerfs/bans

actiblizz is in trouble so as long as hearthstone expansions keep selling they're not going to change anything, I remember reports being weak last year and on the decline but last quarter they were shaping back up.
the balance changes should be just around the corner now that an esports tournament wrapped up, but the problems listed above will persist until the game spirals down.

Attached: ema-199-dack-fayden.jpg (672x936, 238K)

that was super retarded
the other ones too but this one is the most retarded one

I don't understand why China's such a big microtransaction goldmine: Your average chinaman is literally Dirt poor, they shouldn't have much money to throw away compared to an american.

I know, right?
>felstalker
>doesn't silence

they have completely different pricing

China's microtransactions are usually like 25% the price of ours. There are so many Chinsects that you can do this and still earn a profit. It's why they dominate P2W games.

>being angry that a major country is taking a stance against modern degeneracy in an era where e-thots sell their dirty bathwater for money and 12 yo girls walk around in miniskirts

good for them, skimpily dressed whores have no place in a game marketed towards teens and children

>old legendary

there was always unbalanced crap

upvoted

Vanilla HS was like D&D 5e
Everyone was weak and there was a lot of trading and back and forth

Today HS is like D&D 3.5e
Full of cards that are like "if your deck only has female cards and your opponent's life total is less than 25 and you have 3 minions on board you win the game"
Best example of this is Zephrys, obviously

What happened?

Is he OP?

Attached: greed.png (400x543, 304K)

Same thing that went wrong with WoW: “fix what ain’t broke.”

I'm really confused, since I find new secret keeper sexier

zephrys isn't a combo card, and highlander decks have existed for years
he is disgustingly bad design and he needs to be nuked out of the game but there's nothing wrong with building around powerful cards

UNITY

I mean, you could charge 10% and still make a profit, Microtransactions are selling literal data, there's no physical cost when you sell to someone past the cost to initially develop that asset (which is usually virtually nothing)

hearthstone has a stupid amount of RNG and that just doesnt really work in an esport

it is just the choice they made to lower the skill ceiling so even the scrubbiest noob can win some games once in a while if he gets very lucky

but its really bullshit in a pro game when one side does all the best plays he has available to him but still lose because RNG

in contrast MTG has no RNG outside of card draw

Attached: hearthstone_cardset.jpg (1071x393, 258K)

an object is worth what people are willing to pay for it
and they are willing to pay current market value for microtransactions in the west

Some RNG isn't bad. Its just they went overboard with it.

They covered her boobies

remember when literally every deck ran Yogg Saron?

MTGO is far superior and cards hold a 1:1 value digital and physical. Thats what they claim anyway. My old RDW physical deck wont scan >.>

This is probably the worst expansion in a while.
I hate everything about it, and I want it to go away.

if you want full value out of your old cards the one and only stop is Yugioh
it doesn't do set rotation

any examples? ive not been keeping up
what makes this expansion extra ass?

Warriors and Mages.
Warriors have infinite value, more than half their deck is some kind of removal.
Mages are even more braindead since all they do is play giants into conjurer's calling, and if something isn't going their way, Yogg-saron Jr.

can yog-in-a-box trigger itself?

I grew up playing MtG and I cant stand having half the games always decided by eihter me or my opponent having lands problems anymore.

HS is far from perfect and way too simple but I still prefer the 1 mana per turn approach more.

Not as far as I know.

well it can trigger deck of wonders right? which can trigger the box

>Removal of adventures
>No meaningful updates to the game other than cards
>Increasing the number of expansions making it harder to keep up without spending tons of money
>Lack of creativity in cards and any cool shit that does get added is 100% gonna be legendary
>WAY too much RNG

Attached: 1199455870343.jpg (320x240, 35K)

his entrance is very slow and he lost to ai so no

I quit the game for good, disenchanted every single card I had and crafted as many wisps as possible just to make sure I never come back.
Have a nice one fags, game is never getting any better.

Games with "collecting", "lootboxes" "random paid rewards" are predatory business practices that rely on people's addictions and psychological flaws, and they should be outlawed.

Attached: 1553972452117.jpg (549x752, 90K)

I dont want to shoot myself after reading most MTG cards. I always want to kill myself before i even go to read a yugioh card. And you should really check out the MTGO client

Bruh, land management is part of the game but dont worry, RDW will win before double digit turns

yes and it was pure cancer
the card still looks absurd now

>more than half their deck is some kind of removal.
idk why blizz has such a hard on for control warrior
it seems like every expansion control warrior is a tier A deck

cant you just mana weave(mana shuffle) for casual games? everyone did that

i also mostly played monocolour decks so it wasnt really a problem. Theres also fetchlands and all sorts of mana fixing cards

Attached: 220px-Yogg-Saron,_Hope's_End(33168).png (220x304, 124K)

>RDW
but thats so boring

blue+black to slowly torture your opponent is the patricians choice

Well, now mage gets to run 2 copies of yogg saron that they can also discover and cast for free from the tortolian and kalecgos

Attached: 200px-Puzzle_Box_of_Yogg-Saron(90692).png (200x287, 108K)

Just look a this.
Half the deck is fucking removal, it is fucking disgusting.

Quest rogue nerf x4

RNG makes the game fun and create unexpected outcomes, where in MTG most matches are a flat line on the excitement department.
The problem is not the RNG, but the spectrum of it. Most of the time it can go from an instant win, to an instant lose, no matter the state of the board and card value. For example, the Unstable portal could instead add a random mage minion, or some small list of minions. The web spinner could add a random 2 cost minion.
Just reduce the scope of the RNG so it is not so impactful that it makes everything you did so far in the match irrelevant.

SeeYou can guarantee lands if you want. Iirc it is done 2 cards, 1 land, 1 land, 2 cards

The worst part of it by miles, tons of games are decided by one side getting unlucky and getting too many or not enough lands.

So it's an Esper control deck.

Thats fog deck user. Hell hath no wrath like a bunch of FNM regulars encountering a fog deck.
RDW cant mill, thats all. You can also cripple RDW with enhancements (enchants whichever).

wtf is "magnetic"

Also, play Arena.

Attached: Traxos, Scourge of Kroog.jpg (320x445, 64K)

Also see

Funny enough the horrible quest pally shit on that deck with like 90% winrate.

It's like a creature that can be cast as an enchantment on another creature, adding its power and life, and any abilities.

>up with reno.
t.me hit face

What is soul link?

yes, 2 cards + 1 land
theres a way to lay it out and "shuffle" everything back into a deck and have it be mana consistent most of the time, even after your opponent cuts your deck and shuffles it a few times

although officially under the rules its counted as deck stacking and illegal
but that doesnt matter in casual games between friends or at the local card shop since everyone does it anyway

sounds broken.

run more than 23 lands then you dingus

But both cards need to share the same type, which is Mech.

FU
SION
HA!

not enough mechanics to keep it interesting after the "WoW card game" effect wore off and the design team is incompetent or retarded. Turns out that rng isn't a good substitute for actual decision making or skill

Attached: 1563678485433.png (1920x1080, 2.36M)

Guess I will try to make it simpler for all the brainlets with reading comprehension issues.

HALF the ONLINE MtG games are decided turn one by having either you OR your opponent having too many or not enough lands.

At this point im starting to think none of you guys ever played an online version of MtG or are just trolling if you cant even realise that...

Brode was responsible for ultra cancerous infinite value cards like Deathstalker Rexxar. He can go and stay go as far as I'm concerned.

Arena doesn't work like this. Maybe MTGO does but I don't play literal scam games

PoE is less of a game than hearthstone.
aRPGs are mind numbing garbage.

Hoping for a Hearthstone Classic to be announced at blizzcon this year

>What is Bo3

Also, if you consistently getting mana starved/flooded then something is wrong with your deck. Stop blaming the game and get gud

>online
>mtg

soulless and yikes

What went wrong? It was doomed from the start. This is a game that is fueled purely by randomness and luck. Because of netdecking and random effects, the biggest advantage a pro hearthstone player could hope to achieve over his competition is 5%. That means a drooling idiot with insane luck can still beat the world's best player. That feeling is so shitty and happens so frequently that it caused most players to quit. This is a low skill game that does not reward skillful play, and that is what killed it for competitive players.

The monetization model killed it for casuals.

>playing an inherently RNG game competitively
yikes

The monetization definitely killed the appeal for a lot of people. Paying 50 bucks or whatever 3 times a year to get most (but not all) cards is a raw deal.

(You)

The moment they introduced Wild and Classic, the game immediately went to shit. The expansions come out way too fast. Theres like 2-4 fucking expansions every year yet even with all these cards, faggots still spam the same few OP cards from each new meta.

>Ragnaros
>Shudderwock
>ACTUALLY complaining about shudderwock in 2020-1 year of the Dragon.
>unironically wanting Yeti to be the best 4 drop
I mean you could have just said you're retarded to start with.

3 per year and that would be ok probably if blizzard actually made more than 1 balance patch for each

zilliax should've been nerfed

>
Even her old lines and voice are sexier, user. And that's not counting her thicc ass.

Attached: cop4kgarsk3y.jpg (400x418, 50K)

i still remember watching Kolento back in the day and seeing the exasperation on his face when he clearly got RNGed and lose the game

its just feels so bad to watch because it goes against ones instincts and expectations of a competitive game

?

it's bestow

A bunch of reasons that really play off each other
>Its damn near impossible for new players to start
Decks are so dust heavy and there are a billion sets and adventures out which really fucks new players over.
>If you take a break its absurdly hard to catch up
Lets say you had 2-3 meta decks and take 6 months off, your decks are shit due to absurd power creep, nerfed, or rotated. Your resources are fucking nothing since you have to play nonstop just to be able to keep up with the card treadmill.

And finally the biggest reason which ties both the above together
>Blizzard is unbelievable jewish
How many free packs a month does blizzard hand out?
Its literally fucking nothing.

Attached: 1545387810886.jpg (567x790, 354K)

I agree on everything, user. Every single point.
I haven't spent more than 20$ on hearthstone, but even a dollar was too much.

The meta is pretty cancerous atm. Most of you're matches will be warrior or mage and if the warrior has turn 7 boom or the mage turn 5 pocket galaxy youre fucked unless it's a mirror and you also drew it.

The frustrating thing is they didnt invent TCGs.
LITERALLY just copy what MTG and Pokemon have been doing for 20 years.

A month after sets come out release preconstructed decks with like a single legendary and like 3 golds for 10 bucks for newfags to "buy in" to the format.
Hell make that legendary an ALTERNATE ART GOLDEN LEGENDARY and watch all the retards and streamers throw 50 bucks to buy them all even though they already have the legendary.

Do daily log in rewards to trick people into opening the game every day. Hell give free arena tickets every week or so to save that dead ass format by putting some newshitters playing it.

Don't see why Yeti shouldn't be the best attack/health 4-drop. Hearthstone makes little effort in balancing card stats with their effects. So we get a lot of optimal stated cards with effects to boot while Yeti is just basic vanilla.

RNG destruction VS pulling cards that dont exist in your deck from thin air and adding them in. a pool of hundreds of cards BTW

maybe if rakdos said for each creature flip a coin and cast a spell for free randomly from your collection

That would be fucking amazing
