Gothic 2 Patching guide with graphics mods
Download this and install the patches in the correct order (read the installation order text file). You have to install these for the Steam or the GoG version or else the game won't run properly.

Then download this and extract everything to the "system" folder in your Gothic 2 folder

This makes the graphics a lot better, adds new shaders, increases the draw distance etc + fixes performance issues.

Additional Graphics mods (choose ONE of the two). Both of these work with the DX11 mod above. Both of these are installed by simply dropping the .vdf file into your "Data" folder (with other .vdf files in it)
Vurt's Graphics Overhaul:
This is the most vanilla-friendly graphics mod. It mostly only improves the textures/meshes.

L'hiver Vanilla Edition:
Changes the graphics + changes and expands the map. Edits certain locations and models, adds new buildings, new objects. It offers the best graphics imo but the downside is that it adds too many unnecessary trees in some locations.

If the in-game videos are very small go to the Gothic.ini file in the "system" folder and make these two lines have these values:

Just started this. Which guild do you guys recommend? I'm thinking Paladins look good but the mages are pretty cool as well. I usually play a battlemage type of character in these kinds of game. And which apprenticeship should I take? I've heard alchemist is pretty good.

Elex 2 has been confirmed in development for a while now, due to German federal grant or some such IIRC, but I can't say it's a given they'll present anything about it.

The alchemist is the best for noobs because all you do is pick mushrooms and shit to make money
The Smith gives you the most money but you have to know where to find all the steel rod
So I'd just go with the alchemist

Getting other studio that isn't pb to handle a new Gothic game seems like a very stupid idea. But maybe if they would do a remaster.

So I installed that mod because it was linked on the steam forums but then I saw the Vurt mod and thought it looked a lot better. I removed the L'hiver vdf file and installed the Vurt one instead. Now there's props floating around everywhere in the city. Is there a way to fix this? I really don't want to start all over again.

Thanks man! Which guild do you recommend? I like to cast powerful spells and use melee. I heard the paladins have good support spells but not so good offensive spells. Do you recommend mage or a paladin? I heard the Mercenaries have no spells at all so I'm not going with them.

It's amazing but buggy. I found it almost unplayable without the latest dev build of Arx Libertatis that actually fixes the magic system so the fucking thing recognizes when you draw the runes, without it the game can be really frustrating.
The world design is fucking amazing and atmospheric and the magic system is awesome with the fan fix. I like the plot twist, I found it to be original and pretty smart as well.

The mage is really powerful late game but early game can be hard for noobs as you'll have little mana and will have to use melee weapons to compensate for running out of mana so if you want that you can still become a mage because it pays off later and feels good to see yourself become a more and more powerful mage
There isn't a guild that's better than others it's just your own preference.
