I think your confusion stems from the fact that Yea Forums was raided in the time between those two ideas were status quo.

I dont care about cosmetics in games as long as there is no something separate you only earn by being good at the game.

For example in CSGO I'm much more impressed by someone being a Global Elite than some dudes AWP Dragonlore.

It's the worst when you can buy the only prestige symbols of the game with real money. Even if they are just cosmetic.
