I do play, though. I'm so skilled at Civ due to 6k hours of playing the franchise that I can think, strategize, and act while focusing on videos on my second monitor.

I've beaten the game as every single civ, and almost did it again post-GS. Hell, I've probably got like 7 wins as Russia, 5 as Khmer, and 6 as America that aren't counted because no hall of fame before Gathering Storm.

I used to play CIV4 with mods. There is one mod I really like in CIV4 that I now feel like I can't play a 4x game without.

5 is literally the worst entry in the series. If you're the type to like 5 nothing else will please your single digit IQ.

I think it being so different is why so many people like it and refuse to touch the rest of the series. It's the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 of the Civilization series.

Civ V aside, is Civ VI worth it with all the expansions now? I heard religion was still fucked up.

Civ 5 is a shit to play on for long periods of time, eye strains. Also districts. It's gotten much better now too, but there's still enough stuff in 5 that it doesn't have that it is not clearly superior. But, there's enough quality of life and small tweaks that make 5 unplayable for me now.

Gathering Storm is the Brave New World for Civ VI. It fixes a ton of problems, makes the game way more fun, and adds several new mechanics that make it a cut above the rest.

In particular, I think canals are some of the best additions to any civ game. Shame that Harbor Districts have to be in this game, making naval warfare unnecessarily shit, and so too are the civs that rely on it (England, Netherlands, Norway).

Other than that, I think it's balanced a fair bit better than V. Even the most powerful civs in VI pale in comparison to Babylon/Korea/Poland. And the music is really good.

I tried replaying 6 again with all the dlc after getting weirded out the first time and its still weird.
Shit is constantly popping off on normal speed and the built in europe/earth maps are tiny.
I think i have to try again on a slower game speed.

It's "2 steps forward and 2 steps back". There's quite a few problems with it and I don't like a lot of the presentation.

while i would generally agree with the sentiment that IV is the best in the series, V is a very close second place and most of the criticisms are made by IV fanboys who use talking points that may have been valid at release but have long since been patched out

I dunno, normal speed seems fine to me. If you're talking about Eurekas/Civic Boosts, just focus down the path you think you won't be able to get a boost in and then come back for the techs/civics you do get a boost in.

And yeah, the built in maps are kind of bad, but the map generation for continents/pangea/island plates/archipelago is pretty good.

4 isn't particularly hard, either. You just build death stacks and keep them away from artillery, and then have some artillery to counter the AI death stacks. Plus, it's still really easy to get a non-military victory in IV.

The overworld looks great. My only gripe is with the forest feature looking incredibly sparse.

In motion, the game looks fantastic. I love building districts and wonders in the tundra and seeing how the snow falls on them and the icicles form.

It might have been just the map size then.
I tried playing europe map with max civs (like 6 i think?) And instantly in the first couple turns a guy lost his capital and i somehow came to owning it. Then absolutely nothing happened for the next couple hours so i just sped through all the eras.
Then stopped playing cause the map had no room for growth anymore and i was so far ahead i basically won anyways. Pretty boring.

That usually happens on true start location maps where two civs are unusually close to eachother. Think England and Scotland, or Greece and Macedonia. The loyalty drop from the pressure causes a rebellion in their capital city, thus kicking them out of the game.

Normally, civs aren't supposed to start less than 9 tiles apart for that very reason, but with TSL, it's kinda hard to avoid that.
