The Binding of Isaac > Enter the Gungeon > Crypt of the Necrodancer > Dead Cells
also, roguelike thread, any other roguelikes worth playing?
The Binding of Isaac > Enter the Gungeon > Crypt of the Necrodancer > Dead Cells
INB4 autists arguing about the term roguelike
>roguelike
>Wizard of Legend not even mentioned
>Enter the Gungeon above anything
lol
Why the fuck can I not beat dead cell on NG+. I always choke on the last boss
Had some fun wiht Streets of Rogue
You forgot Nuclear Throne, which is above all of those.
it's a grindy game, keep upgrading weapon quality on that room after each boss
Necrodancers my favourite
Enter the Gungeon is the only one of these games I liked
Crypt of the Necrodancer seems fun as well but I have no sense of rhythm so it's not for me
Binding of Isaac and Dead Cells are trash
>any other roguelikes worth playing?
Angbad if you like LOTR, it's my personal favorite
it's trash
REEE NOT A ROGUELIKE
MUH BERLIN INTERPRETATION
IT HAS TO BE BORING AS SIN IF IT'S A REAL ROGUELIKE
wish I was good at that game but keeping the rhythm all the time is stressful
Lobotomy Corporation > all of them
20XX is alright.
It's really light on RL elements, but it has just enough.
The difficulty jump to 1 cell is pretty fucking high year. I don't think I can do 2 cells desu
It's shit
I think you can turn it off if you're a faggot
>Binding of Isaac
>trash
it's one of the best roguelikes on the sole fact that it has actual synergies with effects that drastically change your attacks, making some interesting combinations that keep the game fresh on multiple runs
synergy on most games is simply "you have this item so this other gets more damage"
>genre is popular with the indie kids
>make a game that is not part of the genre
>slap the genre title on the game anyway because retards will buy it
indie games were a mistake
>better action
>faster-paced
>not dependent on RNG unlike Isaac
>not a slog to play through like Gungeon
>"trash"
Don't sleep on Nuclear Throne, I felt personally attacked when Enter the Gungeon was described as "fast" after playing NT.
yeah those synergies are cool and all but the game at large sucks dick
after saving a certain character in the gungeon you can make the game permanently faster
Ah please you're all retarded
I went looking for that character but the game was so goddamned slow up to that point that I ended up losing interest. I don't know if I'd have enjoyed Gungeon regardless of a faster-gameplay carrot.
never played risk of rain but I'll probably grab it on the switch
Yeah it's trash and so is Isaac faggot
Gungeon was alright but even that is neither among my favorite games nor much of a roguelike
who else /ADOM/ here?
Not enough content
Monolith > all that shit.
I don't get Gungeon. By the 3rd floor I cant stack health, keys, armor, or anything the NPCs are asking me for. Trying to play every stage and boss perfectly everytime got old within a week.
>claims to be roguelike
>is a twinstick shooter
big yikes for me
Too short and easy. Not bad, but could've been better.
I have a lot of respect for The Binding of Isaac for popularizing Rogelites and for still being much bigger in scale than most others, but it's just not fun to play 80% of the time. If your default weapon wasn't so pathetic and the vast majority of the enemies weren't passive bullet sponges that run away from you while spawning more enemies, maybe I wouldn't feel the need to keep my finger on the restart button until a decent power-up spawned on the first floor. I played a ton of it, but I'd never play it over Necrodancer or Dead Cells these days.
Based, ignore this shit thread and just play Nuclear Throne
Spelunky, you dolt
it's the best roguelite and the sequel is coming next year
Spelunky is the most boring game ever. It sucks.
>any other roguelikes worth playing?
Deathstate
Gungeon is better than Isaac tbhwyfam
t. dies in the jungle every run
For me, its gotta be Toejam and Earl
This
But I wouldn't mind helldivers and vanquish threads to be honest, just don't call em FPS
Is Helldivers a roguelite-like?
for me it is the risk of rain
Who the fuck ever called helldivers, or any non-fps game, an fps? Everyone says tps or shooter.
Monolith >>>>> all of those
any game with procedurally generated levels changing on each run is a roguelike
Nobody, which is why twin-stick shooters and platformers shouldn't be called roguelikes.
I never got behind Isaac somehow. Tried to watch it, tried to play it. It just doesn't do it for me somehow. The rest is fine tho
then according to you how should these run based randomized level games be called?
It's obviously a first person shooter with third person shooter elements. In other words, a FPTPS.
Don't get hit. Health loss builds up fast if you play stupid
Don't open blue or brown chests unless you have a lot of keys. You should be saving for green and up, unless you really really need a gun
Don't play pilot unless you hate yourself
Always save blanks for bosses
Don't dodge roll unless you have to. Use normal movement where you can
The glass case item on floor 2 needs to be delivered to the 5th floor only once. You can realistically expect to have enough if you beat 1+2 without buying anything. If you're talking about the shortcut guy then don't bother, shortcuts are useless
t. 0 pasts killed crayon eating cultist
Anything that has tons of unlocks and blatant OP items that take REAL SKILL to unlock are my kinda game. Nothing like getting superhot watch for the first time to really show you how to make a run your bitch.
>dude what if weapons, abilities, and AMMO were are totally random
>also what if there was nothing to unlock besides characters and shitty crowns
>what do you mean you ran out of ammo in every pool no matter how well you played lmao just get more ammo drops
immortal redneck and Spelunky are much better than those
I almost forgot, use your fucking guns. If you're using your starter pistol past the first floor you're an idiot
Sots: The pit. Balls to the wall RL
>just beat 2bc last night
Feelin pretty pretty good.
> If you're using your starter pistol past the first floor you're an idiot
>He doesn't conserve ammo by killing lower-health enemies with your pistol and saving real guns for those with more health
I just beat the first pyramid and the exploding pufferfish cunts keep dogging my cheeks, how do I avoid them?
Last I checked a game's genre is determined by its main mode of gameplay and not by weird secondary mechanics that aren't even present in some of the games belonging to that genre.
I don't know why roguelitefags are so confused by this.
Towerclimb is easily the most underrated roguelike, it's fucking great but I never see anyone talk about it
youtube.com
Lolwut? Do you literally only play as the pilot? I use my starter pistol to clear trash down to floor 3, sometimes even 4-5 if I'm playing gunslinger or the robot.
>More recently, with more powerful home computers and gaming systems, several new games include elements of the roguelike genre while incorporating other gameplay genres, thematic elements and graphical styles as well. Such games typically retain a roguelike's notion of procedural generation and permanent death of the player-character but do not include all the high-value factors of the Berlin Interpretation. These games are frequently labeled as "roguelike", but also are referred to as "roguelike-like", "rogue-lite", or "procedural death labyrinths" to distinguish them from the more traditional roguelikes.
en.wikipedia.org
Nuclear throne, monolith if you like shmups, blazing beaks is a cute little multiplayer (also single player, but easier with two) rougelite
>gathered all the materials for the bullet that kills the past
>can't beat the dragun anymore
The worst game i played in this decade. Stay away.
Spelunky is the best of the bunch.
Isaac is just gambling and cheap fun.
They are probably the most annoying thing in the second pyramid. They aren't hard, but you pretty much have to kill them either from a distance, or be able to duck into cover the moment you kill them. You really don't need to be as far away from them as you would think, but more distance is more betterer.
You wouldn't be running out of ammo if you would get better at the game.
400 hours in throne, anyone who runs out of ammo is genuinely shit at the game, there is literally no reason to ever run out
it's good that it just lets shit get whacky. but the humor is awful, and reads like someone just discovering reddit memes.
>Article says, if you actually read it, that those are "roguelike-likes" and are just a subgenre.
What did you mean by this.
Thanks senpai.
>entire game revolves around randomized levels
>weird secondary mechanics
>mechanics that aren't even present in some of the games belonging to that genre
then these games don't belong to that genre
That's pretty legit until I need the hot swap for something else, like a rifle type gun. After that the starter pistol starts collecting dust again
You almost always have enough trash guns to replace your starter pistol for killing weak enemies. It's not worth your time to manually swap
Maybe if you're defining those zombie enemies in floor 4 as trash, I usually use the starter on them
You can do it user. The Dragun isn't that bad once you understand its attacks, though it can be a bitch if you're barely scraping by with your loadout
You're in for a world of pain friend. I don't have the time or patience to grind out even 3cell difficulty since the dlc, it adds way too much frustrating shit. 4cell is genuinely cancer; at least I enjoyed the game before they turned it into a gauntlet of absolute bullshit.
so far i find it good but the more difficult characters are just downgrades of the first 2
also the inventor gimmic absolute trash
twin-stick shooter
It's alright user, just keep going at it. I remember when it seemed impossible for me too, but you just gotta slow down a little.
Protip: use the lower-left corner a lot. It'll be easier to dodge his huge fire attack that comes from both sides, and you'll be able to avoid the reflecting bullets easier also.
but they aren't all twin-stick shooters you dip
forgot pic
shit games for dumb fags.
by that I mean Isaac's good for mindless fun, but not really what one should look to for the genre.
20XX is fucking great, for roguesomethings.
Tangledeep is OK but somehow feels off, I’m not sure what it is. I think it just has too much stuff going on to feel like permadrath is worth it, but also caps out too early for levels so just going forever doesn’t work either.
My favorite for awhile has just been Cardinal Quest 2, free on the phone but not really much depth to it. And the endless mode becomes hyper amounts of bullshit very fast. But for something to do on the train it’s nice.
It’s not as fun as Isaac imo, but god damn I’m in love with the lore and the universe.
t. scrub who can't clear a single run
well how about you call the ones that are twinstick shooters twinstick shooters and the ones that aren't something else?
Gungeon is really fucking bad so that first > should be more like >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Well to be honest unlike other games like isaac I think isaac is the easiest to be able to beat without any upgrades
finally a man with taste
In fucking after, retard. It isn't a roguelike.
The thing is those "trash guns" are often times literally worse than most starters. With the shitty shotguns you are risking damage and being forced to put yourself in bad positions, with shitty SMGs you're spending twice the time it would have taken you to just use your starter.
Learning to love your starter and see it as your default weapon is the key to mastering gungeon. This is coming from someone with 100% completion and every possible item unlocked on the switch.
risk of rain, barony, ftl
risk of rain is fantastic, barony is great for one full run but the main draw is that you can play coop, otherwise it doesn't hold up that well
Enter the gungeon is fun, but it's greatly hindered by the lack of floor unlockables and constantly fighting the basic bullet-kin, even to bullet hell
Synergies were a great addition, but they should have considered adding alts like Isaac
How would you change/buff Rogue
Hard Mode: Heat is still one of her passives
Nah it's not so bad, I used to fucking hate it but after 150 hours I've gotten used to dodging around bullets and optimizing movement, which is really what the game is all about
Don't worry about what gun you're using, unless it's s tier it really does not fucking matter one bit against bosses, the dps cap makes every gun have about the same amount of usefulness, just dodge, that's all you need, everything takes a while to kill most of the time so patience is key. No matter what you're fighting or what gum you're using you have all the time in the world to win so just dodge and don't even pay attention to the health bar
You only have to get the materials to the forge. You do need to kill the dragun for the final part, and then remember to go back to the forge after.
The Dragun is one of those bosses that'll seem like a ridiculous challenge at first, but keep at it, and he's a chump. Once you know his patterns, he becomes one of the easier bosses to flawless. The only bosses easier to flawless than him are the Gorgun, and Bloblulon
When he does the attack with the fireballs coming in from the top and crossing the screen, get into a corner, and dodge into the wall only when a fireball is coming at you at the very bottom. When you see him pull out the daggers, if you blank before he actually throws the first one, you can completely erase them both. The final phase is actually very easy, it just psychologically tricks you into panicking because there are 30 trillion shots on the screen at once.
Best advice for beating him is the same advice for everything else in the game. Just keep practicing.
My mouse and keyboard have zero sticks.
Unless you're playing gunslinger that's simply not true. What's your definition of a trash gun, the sawn off? Unfinished gun? Because those are the only ones I'd consider worse than the default
they talked about how every time they added shit it would create a fuckton of bugs and they really didn't want to work on the game anymore
i agree with you though, would have liked alternate boss versions too
This, I love thrones world and the lore is fucking good, plus I think it has the most cathartic weapons in any rougelike, they have so much fucking punch to them
Plus, kings and queens of the wasteland is one of my favorite video game songs ever
lmfao no
>Have had three seperate Gungeon runs where I have four master rounds and get hit during the final Dragon attack
>Able to do it flawlessly any other time
AAAAAAAAAA
There's no shame in just abusing clone
There are a lot of guns that become shit when you actually figure the game out.
Gunslinger, bullet, marine, convict, and sometimes paradox have starter weapons that you can easily clear the first 3 floors with. Then again I may just be better at the game than most people.
It's the stress my man, the need to be perfect sets the nerves on fire. I'm on the edge of my seat until I get hit once, then all tension is lost and I can easily flawless the rest of the fight, relaxing is so hard to do when you know trying again takes so fucking long
I'm at 103 hours and I've only seen Clone once. Probably unlocked it around 40.
RAINBOW RUN

>female protag
Sorry but I'm not a tranny.
I don't doubt that, but it's pointless when you have enough ammo 99 times out of 100. This is with being picky over chests too.
Corsair is hot shit always and makes me fear opening blue chests just in case I get it, most brown chest weapons are just plain bad like Winchester, crossbow, snowballer, uzi when there are just objectively better versions of those weapons in any other chest. Any weapon that has a small ammo pool 50 or less is always a losing battle to use since ammo isn't guaranteed most of the time and quickly becomes a mostly useless weapon outside and sometimes inside boss battles
All of those games are first person shooters because you view life in first person therefor you're playing in a first person perspective.
>then these games don't belong to that genre
So a game that doesn't have permadeath can't be a roguelike? looks like Darkest Dungeon, FTL, and any game with permanent progression that persists past death (Heroes of Hammerwatch, Gungeon, Binding of Isaac, etc) aren't roguelikes
And a game without randomly generated levels can't be a roguelike either, so Risk of Rain is out.
On the other hand, Age of Empires 2 has randomly generated levels and permadeath, so why isn't it considered a roguelike? Path of Exile is designed around a permadeath mode and heavily features randomized levels, how come that isn't considered a roguelike?
>thinking I'm going to blatantly cheat
The only rainbow run I've done so far was to unlock No 2
I didn't care for NecroDancer's difficulty. One I got to the NecroDancer I was bored and frustrated because it was so much more difficult than the levels themselves. So I'd spend hours and hours figuring out how to beat a boss and every time I died I'd have to redo the other floors.
Even without that, it was just a tedious game to me. Nuclear Throne and pre-Afterbirth+ Isaac is more my style.
You're not wrong, but I have legitimately never been in a position where I couldn't just use a gun better than my starter by mid floor 2.
Well corsair and winchester are bad. The rest of your examples are decent enough, at least until floor 4
How the FUCK am I supposed to succeed in dead cells when the bosses are massive HP sponges if you didn't randomly get synergy?
Apex level cheating is using blessed gunslinger runs to avoid using any resources, so you can hand them off to the shortcut guy
That shit's such a bitch. I can't tell you how many times I fucked up that achievement. I ended up getting it on a clone run without realizing you could do that. However, since getting it, and not thinking about it, I've had plenty of honest flawless runs, and didn't even realize it until I looked at what I had on the game completion screen.
If you really need to, you can get it with relative ease in boss rush mode as well, though unlocking all the elevators can be just as, if not more time consuming.
140 hours, and I only saw it once, and that was the run immediately after I unlocked it. I'm pretty sure the game is programmed to have better odds of giving you a new item right after you unlock it.
I often do find myself not using ammo boxes because I'm full, but I plan for the worst case scenario on account of playing since the PC release. I still have nightmares about the consumable drop rates...
>snowballer
>crossbow
>bad
RETARD ALERT RETARD ALERT THIS IS NOT A DRILL
Rainbow runs are only cheating if you use gunslinger. They're basically compressed runs for speedrunning.
Well since rainbow chests are random you could just get a bunch of shitty items or weapons so I wouldn't call it cheating
For every yari launcher I get, I get a thousand fucking useless table tech shotguns or ammolets or some low tier ring
If you don't like Rogue, chances are you're not gonna like something truly like it. If Rogue is "boring as sin", chances are games that take inspiration from it or try to replicate it will also be "boring as sin". Having a couple RNG values here and there doesn't make a game a "roguelike", that's like calling a pizza with mushrooms a "supreme pizza" if you'll pardon the food analogy
why would i call them that when i can describe their core gameplay loop instead
>Ctrl + F
>no Dungeons of Dredmor
that was surprisingly fun
this too
This. Robot a best. Eyefags are bros though.
Yeah it's way better than it used to be. I also pick up two points of curse if I can, I'll take a couple of jammed enemies for more ammo and money, especially with how good the specialist shops are
>he doesn’t know
Tell me how I know you never played this game
Are Risk Of Rain characters strong enough to take on Dark Ronald?
let me keep it simple for you
game revolves around playing "runs" on randomized levels with multiple floors and permanent unlockables but also objects that only last one run? it's a roguelike, otherwise, it isn't
AoE is a match based game and each match is just 1 map so it isn't a roguelike
Die late.
Oh come on I know crossbow and snowballer aren't bad but they are worse than just holding out for shotbow or explosive crossbow or any other freezing weapon which freeze so much more efficiently than like, 8 shots of snowballer
For the King, which is a turn-based rpg roguelike that I absolutely adored. 6 campaigns, 3 difficulty levels, like 10 classes and hordes of monsters.
Steroids is hyper chad tier for pure fun runs, but robot is max survivability, endless heals forever
Are we talking late-run with maximum items?
If so, then yeah.
Is the expansion vaporware?
Convict is best girl.
it's coming to pc on december, later on consoles
Steroids using a pure bullet mutation set is crazy fun. Literally not stop shooting.
The metal tracks unlocking when you beat the game as aria are really worth it. For those struggling I highly recommend turning off all shoes through the item janitor except for the ballerina shoes and all rings that are not ring of courage. Play each section individually and try to start with upgraded shovel + item.
Snowballer has the benefit of a massive ammo pool, good damage, good accuracy, and it's freeze ability is solid. It can carry a run if you know how to use it and get decent utility items.
Thank you for saying nice things about my wife.
Same. The update absolutely ruined it and made me never play it again
>passive activates on taking damage
>on a game that revolves around avoiding damage
Wait what metal tracks?
No, the final demo will be at PAX
twitter.com
Its situational, but it absolutely is not useless. Doesnt it double your damage? Combine that with something like "potion of gun friendship" and you will melt even the rat.
Not gonna lie bros, I'm more hype for Repentance than I am for any other game coming out this year. Like no joke, I've technically been waiting for this to come out for like 3 years and I will probably jump off a bridge or something if it somehow turns out to be shit (which I highly doubt will happen, but still).
I sincerely recommend watching a few notable gungeon players like bisnap fight bosses. watching how he maneuvers will teach you how to easily beat most bosses like dragon, old king and rat and sometimes he'll drop a tip or wisdom nugget about the fight.
It's a great game that's tragically short on content.
>Bisnap
He's a pretty good sleep aid, not gonna lie.
Isaac has the funnest item combos of all roguelites.
In terms of gameplay though it it's not particularly good.
Reminder that it's Roguelike, nobody called it Rogue-lite until funny cancer man called it that and all of his autistic followers sperged out.
consider FTL
In my experience and preference.
Nuclear Throne > Crypt of the Necrodancer > Dead Cells > Enter the Gungeon
I haven't played any of the newer versions of Issac to comment, though I liked the original back 2012. I kinda wish Gungeon was.. faster? Had more loot? I want to like that one but it never clicks with me.
how the hell will it be shit if it's just antibirth with afterbirth and afterbirth+ integration?
i've also been waiting for it, i stopped playing isaac when + came out and didn't get around buying it, so i'll just wait until the winter sale since it'll probably be out by then
It's definitely a love it or hate it game, and loving it involves putting up with some of its bullshit.
I mostly hate the bosses. Most of them are unfun, and a few are incredibly obnoxious.
Rogue Legacy?
because calling them that would describe their core gameplay loop you mongoloid
sure is a whole lot of not-roguelikes in this thread.
you stupid fucking redditards need to stay off this website
That's why I said I highly doubt it will end up shit.
Plenty of false roguelikes do not have randomized levels, are open world so they don't have floors, or do not have a victory state and thus do not have 'runs'.
Your definition is flawed because it does not describe the main mode of gameplay.
If it allows you to edit item pools or it removes items by default it will improve the game so much.
Apples are vegetables. Wheat is candy. A home is where you go to work for your employer. A chair is what you put your plates of food on. A curtain is something you put on the floor.
Words and definitions mean nothing, and we should all not care about using words wrong like a retard.
Would you guys believe me if I told you on my first run after installing the game for the first time I beat the final boss on my first try and 30 hours later I haven't done it since? Shocked the hell out of me when I got my ass kicked every run after the first time, I would have thought it couldn't be done if I hadn't already done it
>do not have randomized levels, are open world so they don't have floors, or do not have a victory state and thus do not have 'runs
not roguelikes
I'd like to add that I also love Rogue Legacy and FTL very much. I played a few games of FTL for the first time in years just a couple of days ago and that game is still fantastic.
Did you get Thunderhead? Because pre-patch Thunderhead was so busted I 1st tried the hardmode final boss with it.
How the fuck is FTL even roped into this indie misnomer mess? Jesus fucking christ I hate you people so god damn much.
i'm just saying, there's no way it's going to be shit because it's just integrating the mod into the base game, so you shouldn't be in doubt about the quality at all
Lol
If you play right, you can start with a gold weapon of your choosing, on whatever character you get good with.
>not a single mention of catacomb kids
I wish the lazy negro making this could update his game, legit one of my favorite roguelites.
No no no literally first run of the entire game, you need to unlock thunderhead after a few hours of play
>game has no features in common with rogue at all
>its still a roguelike
Fuck you retard.
>have 99.9% of the ammonomicon unlocked
>only item missing is the turbo gun
>a regular ass gun that isn't even an unlock
Just fucking drop already!
Opening a blue chest gives you tier 3 weapons.
I just don't trust Nicalis at fucking all at this point. Even if it's mostly just Ed and Kil working on this expansion at any moment they can barge in and force some stupid shit into it for no reason or because they feel like it.
Huh, weird.
Turbo Gun is an unlock though, you have to be Turbo Mode for it.
Roguelitefags are insufferable, they are so desperate to be part of an established genre they will lump Dead Cells, FTL, and QoQ into the same shitheap just for Indie cred.
Gungeon is a miserable game that actively tries to make sure that the player isn't having fun
A robot named fight. Starts a bit slow but is really nice.
>according to you Dead Cells, Risk of Rain not roguelikes
well we're getting somewhere
That's because Rogue-lite shitters find it too boring and Roguelike autists think it's too dumbed down compared to shit like Qud, Angband, etc.
Which is a shame because it's a great fucking game. Even if it's humor kinda sucks.
I could not tell you how I did it thought to myself "huh for a shoot em up that wasn't so hard" but then the game started kicking my shit in especially the rune shrine guy
maybe you should reread my post.
When you faggots think something like Isaac is a roguelike it's no wonder you get penises and vaginas confused, you absolute tranny.
Binding of Isaac is the only game I've given a hard pass because of the "art style". I can tell the gameplay is good, but I really can't stand how it looks and all the gross-out humor.
>ADOM
>the UnReal World
Not according to the wiki, but even so, I've beat turbo mode. I've got all achievements, and have gotten every single other gun and item aside from the turbo gun.
it definitely got pretty annoying when I used to see it fucking everywhere
What was the run like when you got the superhot watch, howd you get all the master rounds?
Isaac has been shit for years, gungeon, nuclear throne, and necrodancer are all much better than it currently
When you beat the game as cadence you unlock playijng as her mom, and then when you play as her mom you unlock her grandma, which has metal remixes for all of the levels
it baffles me how people can't play the game, i can understand something like aria or one of the other harder characters but cadence is easy
Did they fix Dead Cells yet? I hate how badly you're punished for expanding the weapon pool.
No mention of Tales of Maj'Eyal???
haven't played risk of rain but dead cells has a victory state and randomized levels, I'm not sure why would you say it doesn't fit
is it because the levels are behind doors rather than going down a single dungeon? they're still randomized levels in fixed paths so it's a roguelike
Isaac is only awful with the latest update, everyone is hoping the next update will redeem it, me included.
t. Been playing since the very first demo on newgrounds
The superhot watch is cool, but kind of lame. The first time I got it was also the first time I went to bullet hell, and it trivialized the entire thing.
For my master round achievement read
I recently started playing Binding of Isaac again. The Afterbirth + version. I am god damn addicted to this game. I love it so much. I’ve never played Crypt of the Necrodancer or Dead Cells, but I’ve always wanted to. I see that Dead Cells has a Complete Edition coming out this month. I plan on getting that. I can’t wait. I really do love this genre, might be one of my all time favs.
>Isaac is only awful with the latest update, everyone is hoping the next update will redeem it, me included.
It's been so long since I've played it I don't remember exactly when, but i think afterbirth was the last time the game was good.
What has steakmund done in the past update that has upset people? I can't imagine it's much worse than everything else atrocious he's put in
It's super good, even with all the fucking health upgrades
Check out the mods, one of the only games I recommend them for
youtu.be
Only the most hypest shit. Though it's really fucking hard.
>can't keep up an Eden streak
what a pleb
Yes. There is now a custom mode that allows you to disable any weapon, ability or mutation you want.
>Rain World
>Darkest Dungeon
Why are so many indie games like this?
Easily the worst past
>your character looks absolutely retarded
yeah i wouldn't talk about it either
>maybe you should reread retarded shit
no thanks

Danny B is one of the best musicians in the industry, there's only a single piece in the game that's lower than a 9/10.
Best advice I can give for this one is to spend as much of the fight as you can near the bottom. The marines in the corners don't do a lot of damage, but it helps.
>Dying during any past that isn't Bullet's
Even then I was just not paying attention to the game
>Danny B
Based
the worst part is I actually killed the boss but was standing on some goop as the death cutscene was playing out. as soon as it ended I instantly died. That's why the "picture" is all white
>dying to Cannon
lol he has two attacks bro
The balancing is fucked and Edmund introduced shit to the game that's really hard to counter, but for some reason is there from the get-go instead of appearing as you unlock them and get better.
The Void, Afterbirth+'s final level, was also a bit of a let-down, and people were not fans of Delirium, Afterbirth+'s final boss.
Like I said I wasn't really paying attention to the game and I had taken like 3 hits I shouldn't have on the thing before him, I beat it easily on the second try.
>The Void, Afterbirth+'s final level, was also a bit of a let-down, and people were not fans of Delirium, Afterbirth+'s final boss.
Oh yea I remember that now, it was hilariously garbage.
Ultra greed or super ultra greed or something too, right?
Doesn't help that most of the updates just kind of ruin the item pool in general
I had to Ctrl F Nuclear Throne in case nobody had clarified this very well known fact.
Danny B really is among the bests

This is my biggest problem with Afterbirth+ by far. There are so many gimmicky shit items, that it's genuinely rare to simply find a straight DMG Up item, and all the gimmick tears in the world doesn't change that you are substantially gimped if you can't find any DMG Up items.
He should've added more straight stat increase items, more DMG Up items, more Tears Up items, shit like that. As it stands there are way too many useless shit items you get every run.
I personally love Delirium as a boss but I don't care for the Void since it's lazy.
Me right here. At first I couldn't even get far in NG+, now I consistently get to the final boss only to get absolutely wrecked. I guess the right thing would be to practice evading his shit in easy, but it feels like too much work.
WHERES THE UPDATE YOU STEAK EATING FUCK
>Dead Cells has a Complete Edition
there is no paid dlc so there's no "complete" edition, when I bought it on the switch it was shown as a bundle with the giant dlc but it's a free update so it's exactly the same as just getting the base game
You got robbed user.
>heheeh my false equivalence is sure to prove them wrong!
What the fuck is supposed to be roguelike gameplay if none of the games in this thread count as roguelikes?
All of those are shooters. First person shooter, third person shooter, etc is just the name of the sub-genre. Why can't rogue-fags ever stop being so autistic?
>DURR HURR IT NEEDS TO BE ASCII AND TURN-BASED AND GRID-BASED AND NOT FUN AND...
>binding of isaac > literally anything
imagine liking this piece of edgy shit
its repetitive and easy as fuck, you can usually kill most of the bosses in a few seconds, and even if you couldn't, their patterns ridiculously easy so it wouldnt be a problem. the secrets are either extremely simple to find or so trivial you have to look them up. unlocking the lost for example. and when you unlock him hes just unplayable, that is unless you have the dlc, as it gives him the holy mantle, after of course autistically spending dozens of hours on greed mode to donate 500 or something cents
At best it would be an even fight. Definitely cant take down Dark Excellent Ronald
source for the love of god
only if you admit that all the games in the OP are roguelikes
For me, it's ωLabyrinth.
There a guide on steam that explains all his patterns, after reading it I was able to feel like I stood a chance. It tells you what are the best things to do when certain animations start up.
On 3Cell now, it helped me get past 2cell because you can't really practice the boss without save scumming
with one as shitty taste as yours, no
in theory, a game that plays like rogue.
Nethack
DCSS
Elona
DoomRL
The items in that game are samey garbage
Are the shields in Dead Cells useless?
Also, what are the buffs like speed buffs and so on (things that appears as icons above the character)?
I really loved Stone Soup some time ago.
any recommendations?
>close to 80 hours in nuclear throne
>haven't managed to find any of the secret stuff to unlock
>only beat the throne once with crystal
Guys tell me, what's it like being good at video games? I sure wish I knew.
they are, what is the problem?
the game is shit and 90% rng, don't feel bad about it
move on to a different game
Cannon Sensei Tobashisugi
>save scumming
How? judge me all you want I don't give a crap.
Permadeath and randomization. But genres are gay anyways and no one should give a fuck about classifications if we all know what we're talking about.
Nigga just unlock your favorite golden weapon on your favorite char and see how many times you can loop. That's the base experience and boy do I never get tired of it.
Played so much of it in the last days that I got a burnout. Devs seems quite incomptent though; infinite item/upgrade still isn't fixed with the recent patch, and they're planning to had steam sucess when most people will be done with the game.
I also think that there's not a lot a variety to be able to win a run.
>Not playing IVAN
XCom is the best roguelike, prove me wrong.
I found it good at first but lack of variety in builds and overall repetitiveness is a real bummer for a roguelite
I don't know how to unlock golden weapons and I don't want to look it up because I wanted to figure everything out by myself.
roguelike is already a subgenre of rpgs though.
>it needs to be ascii
nobody has ever said this
>turn based
yes, rogue was turnbased.
>grid based
yes, rogue was gridbased
>not fun
sorry you got filtered
>tfw a hedgehog brutally mauls you, leaving you as a crumpled heap to beg for the mercy of the gods who, in their eternal wisdom, tear off your crotch for daring to utter their names, the pain of which cause you to vomit all over yourself before the loss of blood claims your pitiful life
IVAN is an experience
>First person shooter, third person shooter, etc is just the name of the sub-genre.
roguelike is the name of the sub-genre of turn-based dungeon crawling rpgs with permanent death
>AND NOT FUN
stay mad you absolute casual
I think Nuclear Throne's few secrets weren't meant for you to find on your own. I doubt that you will incidentally hit the special golden car in the junkyard with the screwdriver.
Isaac Repentance when?
It's not a false equivalence, the bastardization the roguelike genre has suffered is so great that the analogy seems ridiculous, but is perfectly accurate.
Slay the spire is a lot of fun but holy fuck I dont believe them when they said card drops are truly random. Try shiv build and get nothing but poison stuff after first boss. Try poison build get nothing but energy and shuffle cards after first boss. Its fucking enraging. Meanwhile I beat them game on my third attempt as the first character
How's Dungeons of Dredmor? Was considering having a go at it.
Spelunky and Nuclear Throne are better than all those games.
i feel like i spend most of my time resetting or not going far and it makes me sad
>eating some weird shrooms and shit
>fucked up thing happens
>gets harder to eat for a while, then easier which is bad because you're just getting worse
>finally transform into a bear
>your actual real form can't even sustain its own life anymore but you get to live an hour as an awesome bear
Dungeons of Dredmor. Now that's a Roguelike.
most of what you get will be based on the seed, you can go back a try a different build and you'll pick up the same stuff.
If you try to force a specific build you'll rarely get what you want, just like any other drafting game. Take the best stuff, remove the worst, then refine your build after floor 1 when you already have something workable.
Good taste. I can tell half the autists replying to you didn't play past z2.
