Yep, Konami did it. There's also a DS TBS game based off AoE II civs and another based of AoM, although those two might as well be new games completely.

There are 2 expansions which are absolutely amazing but I never played the campaign mode.

Warchiefs had 2 campaigns that took place during gaps in the vanilla campaign. Asian Dynasties was completely unrelated.
