megaman exe with a mechanic like phenix wright in mvc3 where instead of picking up evidence he gets different battle chips at random.

In my head, X in this game would get a redone moveset that cannibalizes parts of Zero's; the hold-button Buster that he can cancel into and out of specials chief among them. Just give X mostly projectile specials instead of Zero's insane mobility moves and don't give him Sougenmu and he won't be as busted despite sharing the mechanic.

I really like MMZ games so I considered putting in that Zero like SvC Chaos did but I figured that since Zero ends up being Top Tier in every single game he's fine sitting this one out. Hayato gets to be the beam sword guy.

If you find the right side of that roster boring I don't know what to tell you.

Great ideas for systems, poor balance of them. Active Tag during blocked supers fucked up the game's meta from the onset and the "Counter Tag" sucked dick. Reality even after nerfs was the only Stone that had both a good Surge AND a good Storm; Space & Soul had good Storms but they still had their faults, Power has a good Surge for hitconfirms, Time is raw gimmicks, and Mind is hot garbage.

AvP is on that abomination of a plug-in console Capcom is putting out. Linn Kurosawa showing up in something has a much higher chance than before.

I don't think people who say this about MvC realize what they're asking for. The amount of characters they would need to model from scratch even if they recycled every model from 3 & Infinite would be staggering, and that would leave them with pretty much no resources to add newcomers that would mean a lot more to the series; I'd much rather get Nightcrawler in a fighting game than bring back Marrow, for example.

Then use different reps for the protagonists. Barring Bass.EXE's large Japanese fanbase, Sigma is clearly the best villain in the series for a fighting game and his appearance in Infintie proved it. He's my favorite character to play as in the series, and despite Infinite being pretty damn bad.

The gameplay is what I was focusing on. I know Capcom outsources its fighting game models these days, that's why SFV's are so varying in quality. Before Infinite, there was SFIV, SFxT & SFV (mostly Dimps), TvC & UMvC3 (Eighting), various HD rereleases (mostly outsourced and even when done in-house like DS Resurrection it's just a port), Fate/Unlimited Codes (Eighting again), Sengoku Basara X (ArcSys), and Alpha 3 Max (just an updated port). The last one where Capcom did the gameplay of a new fighting game was Capcom Fighting Jam.

Also there was that weird fucking Onimusha Smash clone with X & Zero in it. Not sure if that was in-house.

MvC2 had a larger roster but half the capcom characters were from street fighter and half the marvel characters were from x-men. MvC3 had a smaller roster, but a better representation of different franchises on both sides.

I'd love to see the gameplay pick up where 3 left off but without the xfactor in it or at the very least xfactor works differently. I'd also like to see the roster bumped up in size to somewhere between 80-120 characters. The history of both companies is insanely rich. MVC is like the only franchise in fighting games I've ever seen where the roster actually kept fucking shrinking as it progressed. Its mind boggling considering the richness in IP of both companies as I said. After the mess of Infinite, for me an ideal new MvC game would have almost every character from Ultimate MvC3 back (except for Spencer, Hsien Ko and X23 because they suck) and all the new characters from MvCI except for Winter Soldier because he sucks. Captain Commando, Cyclops, and Rogue should return from the 2d titles too.

Number of buttons doesn't equal complexity, no clue why people still believe that meme. Infinite had LP/HP/LK/HP rather than LMHS but that game isn't as good as TvC or Marvel 3. Even then, MvC2/3/I are actually 6-button games anyway, just with A1/A2 or Tag/Stone.

You're totally right when you apply that MvC2, but Marvel 3 was built from the ground up to be a 4-button game; if anything it was working off of TvC's example, and TvC was just LMH Assist so Marvel 3 actually added buttons to it. I think TvC has the better mechanics/systems than Marvel 3 (and by extension all the Marvel games) despite that, because, like you said, it was built with its controls in mind.

X-23 debuted in X-Men: Evolution which started in 2000. While technically that’s not the 90s, functionally it is because a good chunk of the kids who watched the 90s X-Men show would still be young enough to give a shit about cartoons at that time.
