It is to be expected that they want their video game characters to look like themselves, and to the degree their aesthetic preferences come from their genes they also have developed separately from the Westeners. Yet it's also not surprising that because the dominance of Western culture and media they have been influenced by that as well, so no wonder the result is some kind of mixture. Half-Japanese, Half-Western people are considered attractive too.
