Be lazy, use shortcuts, do not waste time on shit that brings small result. If it looks good it LOOKS GOOD. Things such as tracing can be super useful to help you learn how to draw better, just as long as you watch out for bad habits that might hurt you down the line. Art is just an illusion, use whatever trick you can to make that illusion better.
Sure, learning to draw is mostly practice. But there is so many dumb tricks you can use to get better results.

Seems like a lot of people struggling to stick with an idea and see it through. How about this idea: Yea ForumsICR - Yea Forums Indie Consortium Royale. At the start everyone who wants to 'play' puts in their game ideas and either gets feedback or teams up with others to do a specific idea. This could go more the route of a game jam where ideas are randomly picked and each team has a week to complete their game. Or each person/team has to create the same game (say a breakout clone) in the specified timeframe. If you fail, you're out of the consortium. Just spitballing, but is anyone interested in something like this?

Just read up on it from a good source such as Introduction to Algorithms by Cormen. Try out BFS and DFS first though and you'll understand shortest path algorithms better, most of the classical stuff is built on them (Bellman-Ford, A*, Dijkstra, etc.)
a game jam is much easier than putting ideas down, just doing it and working in a random to make something in a short amount of time is the way to go.

Art is fucking simple dude, you don't need to be an artist to make a good looking game, and with the right tools you can just push and pull things together until you get something you like. Plus there's so many workarounds such as looking at what other people made and just emulating that, cobbling together a new type of visuals like Dead Cells, or just outright making your game look like shit and having people praise it for being unique like Sword and Sorcery.
Now music, that's what the hardest part is, and music can make or break an indie game. Pretty much every single popular indie game in the last 10 years relied on its music for memorability, and that's not something you can just emulate by playing with programs. Hiring a composer doesn't fix the issue because the game stops being your brainchild, and it loses its "one man's dream" soul appeal. Eric Barone was a musician turned dev/artist, and Stardew Valley has a 10/10 soundtrack as a result, that props up the rest of the game.

I feel its worth expanding on tracing, its a fantastic way for beginners/intermediates to figure out why they aren't getting whatever it is they're trying to draw, but its a horrible tool to use outside of personal practice, all it takes is one connection to ruin your reputation and all your effort.
