why hasn't there been a lord of the rings game that's actually good?

The ones on PS2 were fun.
Because EA had the rights to make games. If any other company had gotten the rights you would have had some legendary games.
There's a great one except it's not called The Lord Of The Rings, it's called Dragon's Dogma
This. The Shadow Of Mordor/War games are pretty good tho, but they get repetitive real quickly
Shadow of Mordor is nothing like what you'd want out of a LotR game. It's bamham in Mordor with a bunch of loudmouth orcs, the least interesting part of Tolkien's writing.
TRotK was pretty good desu.
>tfw a LOTR rpg would've been super easy to write for, and had limitless potential
>the best we get are some crappy playstation RPGs, a ripoff MMO, a few boring hack'n'slash games and an RTS
very sad waste of IP
BFME
3rd age
Movie games
Solid enough at the time
3rd Age is shit, my dude. It starts of interesting but never picks up and nosedives barely an hour in.
A Japanese rpg would have been the best format for it. Instead we get action games with gore and decapitations, because that's what Tolkien is all about.
I thought the EA games were considered passable, when EA was still a passable game company.
>never played bfme 2 and the expansion
Lmao @ ur life
It's not that good
>It's not that good
It’s why I’m lmao @ ur life
Now don’t reply to me again
Literally what is The Third Age
Lego lotr, retard
A bad, half assed game
There were plenty of those back in the day, user.
BFME2 was a fucking great RTS game. Still is, but it's tough to get it working on Windows 10.
>JRPG
>Third age is literally FFX
Name six (6).
wanna know how i know youre a zoomer?
>why hasn't there been a lord of the rings game that's actually good?
Probably because LotR in any form was never really good.
Different guy here, it's not that good
I don't know how anybody who actually read the books and appreciate the lore Tolkien created could actually enjoy the Mordor games. They shit all over the established lore and continuity to the point that they should have just made them their own games instead of forcing LotR into it in the first place.
Different guy from the other guy
It’s kind of shit
Did anyone play that lotr game that was like star wars battlefront style game?
I used to love that when I was a kid
You're baiting me and I'm not gonna fall for it
a-at least the books were good though
Came to say this.
Patrician
user, I don't really think there's a good way to tell you this so I'm just going to say it: they weren't.
Reminder that according to Shadow of War, Shelob is actually a girl who can shapeshift, was Sauron's girlfriend, and there's good nature wargs and drakes, and the player happens to have a second One Ring, which is actually perfect, unlike the one ring.
Plus they turned Isildur into a Ringwraith when Tolkien never implied such in his works.
There's a Mount and Blade mod called The Last Days of the Third Age that I really like.
It's very janky and exactly what you would expect if you took Mount and Blade fans but then filtered out only the ones that were autistic Lord of the Rings fans. But that is still good.
You can join Rohan and crush puss with 100 charging Rohirrim lancers against neet orcs.
So what is ''magic'' in the lotr
I hear that it is mostly entirely based around the effecting emotion
You havrnt played war in the north have you?
>I'd rather an 80-hour walking simulator of New Zealand with an 18 minute long dramatic reading of a 36-page description of a rock some hobbit stepped over on his way to something interesting.
Shadow of Mordor is not perfect but it transcends and rises above its tedious fucking source material.
the third age mod for total war medieval 2 is kino
but i won't hold my breath for any triple a game in tolkiens universe to be released anytime soon. an rpg in the form of dragon age origins would be pretty great tho.
This is a brainlet opinion
>the Orc model is somewhat shorter than human models.
>elves have high af archery, they aim for the heads
>human heads
>on human models
>charge my stocky Orc posse into battle
>arrows whizz over our heads like crazy
>lmao this is hilarious
>barely noticeable hill
>everyone gets headshotted almost at the same time
>they just take all my food and leave there
Don't make me reinstall, faggot
>Return of the King
>Dragon's Dogma
There are lots. Every great fantasy game you've ever played was built on Lord of the Rings.
dragon's dogma is way too high fantasy for lotr
Dragon's Dogma is 1st age.
>Shelob is actually a girl who can shapeshift
actually not much of a stretch considering she's the spawn of ungoliant
Based
They actually fixed that a while ago iirc, elven archers are the most broken unit in the game.
The best LotR game is that mod for Medieval 2.
based as fuck
>pelennor fields coop with the boys
You know just for the effort (you)
It's pretty much whatever it needs to be, there are no hard rules on it. But, outside of ainur only a handful few can do it, and nowhere near on the same scale. IIRC, Elrond was the only one in Lotr who actually did magic without being a divine being, and even then he actually descended from one.
Its more a Dungeon and dragons game
Butin the novels she was just that, a big ass spider, not a cunning witch
The PS2 and GBA ones were great
Does it really matter? Why are you even getting remotely agitated by something stupid as a videogame? Just keep to the books if you want to stay true to the lore onii-chan.
I guess people want a classic RPG in the veins of Baldur's Gate or even Elder Scrolls.
I've always wanted a thief like stealth game in the lotr universe, this way you don't tread on canon and can make a game around a great variation of levels.
>final level, steal x from sauron
I feel like stealing a Palantir would be a more achievable goal.
There are many, and the Shadow of War/Mordor games are fucking amazing.
Not him, but:
LotR Two Towers
LotR RotK
LotR War in the North (in coop)
LotR Battle for Middle-earth II
LEGO LotR
And I guess LotR Conquest had potential.
Also Fellowship of the Ring was comfy
