I like Fate's version of Attack Stance.
Guard Stance needed work but it was miles better than Awakening Pair Up.
I like the crit quotes. They make me feel happy.
I like turtles.
I like the ability to self insert and fuck your character of choice.
holy fuck we already have like 5 fire emblem threads up in Yea Forums right now, just post this shit there
I liek mudkipz.
I miss the "bonus exp" system from the Radiance games.
I personally enjoyed the headpatting mechanic.
Well they're about warring between different games in the series and about girls. I just want to talk about nice game design.
Conquest chapter 10 is the best map.
>What are your favorite mechanics?
Rescue, Shove, Nerfed Canto, I have a fondness for Weapon Arts and the Vancian magic casting system but they've yet to find a good balance with them.
>What are your favorite maps?
FE12 Chapter 8, FE4 Chapter 5, FE6 Chapter 20A, Conquest Chapter 10.
>How would you want a Fire Emblem game directed in the future?
Not sure. I like the idea of them trying to marry the supernatural BS with the political plots a bit more, and since it's an RPG series having some choice and variance would be a welcome addition, but I'd still want the focus to be on having high-quality map design and ensuring that whatever gameplay systems are there add to the tactics side of things without totally trivialising everything.
>Which Characters are written the best, and why is Volke number 1?
Renault was pretty damn interesting from what I can remember.
If you are a FE girl and your hair doesn't at least touch the floor, don't talk to me.
>Combat arts
My problem is that Combat arts typically get outclassed by normal attacks by the endgame. I think the Skill procs given by Occult Scrolls was by far the most balanced system.
>Mechanics
3H finally made bows actually good, might've gone a little too far with the +2 skill and bow knights, though hard to tell right now I'll wait till lunatic to decide if bows are too good
>Maps
Christ where to begin FE6 and Fates have some of the best maps in the series the with some standouts being the bring the bridge where Minerva joins, the map before shrine of seals, and the defend chapter with Takumi.
>Future
Honestly 3H was surprisingly good from a story aspect I still think FE4 has ur beat from the amount of world building in that game but this was a step in the right direction, also fates showed that there's nothing wrong with a bit of difficulty and map gimmicks. Personally I'd like to see different difficulties change up maps more than just adding more enemies and changing stats and skills.
>Character
FE9 has the best characters overall imo with Ike still being my favorite character in the series, but 3H had a lot of suprising stand outside like Sylvain and Felix.
>What are your favorite mechanics?
not to be contrarian but ambush spawns, they make the map feel more dynamic
>What are your favorite maps?
Pic related, elincia gambit and FE4 chapter 3
>How would you want a Fire Emblem game directed in the future?
More story driven with less focus on the characters, like in radiant dawn
>Which Characters are written the best, and why is Volke number 1?
I really like jill as a character and how she grows between the games, she is like ingrid if she was interesting
forgot to add the pic
>Fire Magic
Leaves burns. Always. Bonus damage to Beasts/cavalry.
>Wind Magic
Low Mt, never misses. Deals bonus damage to fliers.
>Thunder Magic
Impairs movement.
>Light Magic
Always involve manipulating health bars. healing, buffs, stealing health.
>Dark Magic
Wacky effects. look at fates.
>Spirit Magic
That magic hoshido got in fates. No side effects but gives stat bonuses.
>Knives
Fates had it right here, too. 1-2 range, low dps, gives stat debuffs.
>Gauntlets
3H had it right. Brave weapons when initiating combat.
>Bows
Bonus damage to fliers. can have lots of range but are helpless up close. Close Counter was a shit choice in 3H.
>tfw i ended with a level 20 Volke that only did 0 damage to everyone
My first Fire Emblem is 3 houses. I like it. I played on normal casual so I didn't get a very challenging time. Some of the side stories kicked my ass though. Same with some main missions.
I like it. The gameplay was enjoyable. Only other game like this I've tried was a shitty PC game. Now that I think of it it may have been a rip off of FE.
Are the older games similar to 3 Houses? I've read it's forced permadeath seems bad. I don't like restarting a hundred times.
I've never had a problem with ambush unless they move same turn they show leads to way to much unpredictability. Regular ambush is fine though since it leads to thinking on your toes
>Are the older games like 3 houses.
So every game before Awakening works like this:
You start with a team of like 3 units and are given a couple through the story.
After a mission it goes straight into the next mission with menuing between, like arranging items, support conversations, and promoting units.
After a while weird named units that are either neutral or enemies and aren't bosses will be on maps. You typically can recruit them through a little puzzle that can be as simple as waiting for them to run up to Ike, or have to figure you need Rolf talk to one before Ike specifically has to kill them. This recruitment is a big part of the fun, is how you increase your team size, and typically has the best music in that game youtube.com
Classes are determined by the unit, there isn't a big bank of classes your team can turn into (typically, there are in a few games) and you promote your units by leveling up and/or using master seals.
If playing with high difficulty you typically need to restart chapters a lot. But imo figuring out the trick to a map is fun. But I agree that getting randomly crit is annoying. There's only so much you can plan for.
The older Fire Emblems are similar but different from 3H. For one in the gba games the weapon triangle is a bigger part of the game as swords, axes, and lances all work in a rock paper scissors type of gimmick where certain weapons are better against other ones. Rather than using AS the games use the characters speed stat vs the weapons weight to determine speed, but it's easy enough to figure out after a bit. Lastly there aren't any skills and there's not really any kind of grinding opportunities in the gba games as you just go from map to map. They're definitely still worth playing though with FE6 still being one of the best games in the series, if you want to start the gba games start with FE7 or 8 since they ease you in to the permadeath a lot better than FE6 does.
was that shitty game vestaria saga?
No. Agarest:Generations of War.
I didn't really give it a fair chance.
I really like Echoes/3H's magic system where everyone has unique spell sets and I especially like how in 3H's early game heal spells are fairly limited so you have to play conservatively with them
my favorite is shadow dragon. good, basic gameplay with the weapon triangle that doesnt overstay itself and doesnt get bogged down with extraneous character development. a cutscene at most with Marth/Malledus or Marth/Princess Nyna just so you know where the Altean army is and how close they are to getting Marth's castle back.
>early game heal spells are fairly limited.
IIRC in PoR you didn't get your second heal staff until chapter 9. You could say it's the same deal there.
i liberally spammed heal with linhardt. and they pass out vulnerys like candy. i still only have heal/psychic on hard classic and i have never lost a unit or ran out of heal casts
Mage knights are a cool part of the series. Not enough RPGs let you go hybrid
Gaiden/Echoes damage when casting: interesting mechanic or retarded legacy gameplay gimmick?
retarded legacy gameplay gimmick, 3H doesn't do much right but the spells are one of those things. a unqiue spell list for your units and a limited amount of casts per battle.
>What are your favorite mechanics?
Canto
>What are your favorite maps?
Elincia's gambit, 3-13, Battle of Garreg Mach, HHM Cogs of destiny,l and The binding blade
>How would you want a Fire Emblem game directed in the future?
No idea, i liked what 3H did so i guess they can keep rolling with that
>Which Characters are written the best, and why is Volke number 1?
I like Karel and how he goes from turbo edgelord to a calm guy
>What are your favorite maps?
Conquest was full of great maps, but if I had to choose one I'd pick probably the Ninja Rape Cave. It was so ridiculous that I ended up loving it.
>How would you want a Fire Emblem game directed in the future?
I want the writing of 3H with the gameplay of not 3H. It's just so bogged down by the social sim shit that I can't being myself to replay it, not to mention the maps are uninspired and leave a lot to be desired. It's not a popular opinion but I liked it when FE was done completely by IS and not KT. 3H looks like shit and the animations have no weight behind them, not to mention the shoe-horned battalion stuff really doesn't add anything of value.
battalion is a broken mechanic. you can kill death knight every time because he cant counter attack battalions.
>Favorite Mechanics
A lot of stuff from Genealogy really gets me going with how well the mechanics are integrated into the plot and lore, like holy blood for example. Always loved Canto and Dismount as well, Horse Emblem best emblem. Funky status staves like berserk are always fun too.
>Favorite maps
Crisis in Agustria always gets me going, so long as I'm not seriously trying to save Lachesis's knights from going full retard. Conquest Chapter 10 as well of course. From a presentation standpoint I really like the Golden Deer's endgame in 3H, but the actual map was too easy for my tastes
>How would you want a Fire Emblem game directed in the future?
I just want a good, linear FE that's maps don't rely on gimmicks like Conquest does and nothing that breaks the pace super hard like the monastery exploration in 3H. Either gimme that or gimme a remake of Genealogy with as much heart and passion put into it as SoV had. Name it Ashes of Jugdral too for shits and giggles.
>What characters are written the best?
I've always loved Minerva and Seliph, but Dimitri and Dedue are really growing on me.
It would be interesting in a game with weapon durability if the spells did damage when casting instead of having durability, but in a game like Gaiden/Echoes it's pointless.
I like how in the old games you just went from level to level without having to waste time running around some hub gathering flowers.
