Why do Nintendo always find a way to fuck things up?

Gungeon and nuclear throne

Not a roguelike

Not a roguelike either

You're the only person who knows what a roguelike is.

Tbh you miss out on fun if you limit yourself like this

>perfect console for RPGs
>Xenoblade 2 looks like ass in handheld mode
>Fire Emblem's text is too tiny

Do the mystery dungeon style games not count as roguelike?

There'd also be Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon Every Buddy, but it's a remaster of a Wii game.

Tangledeep is pretty good.

Chocobo's Dungeon

Tangledeep is really fucking good. Completely forgot it existed.

Neither of those are roguelikes

I just want dumb people to stop mislabelling their games

they do not
they have persistence outside of every run, which firmly disqualifies them from being roguelikes. Nothing carries over between games in a true roguelike.

not a roguelike

This. It's fun. The production value makes it really nice

hack your switch and slap on any roguelike you want

ADOM is supposed to be getting a console release

Yeah I don't get this thread. If you're going to follow only the absolute strictest definition of a roguelike, then of course you're not going to see commercial releases of ones that already exist, and of course you're not going to see something completely new and original that fits the proper criteria being released directly to console. The last thing that would even come close to that standard is Dungeons of Dredmor, and most roguelike purists hate it.

No shit really? It's been 15 years since I've played ADOM. I wonder what the console release is going to be like.

pretty much
op just wanted to shitpost about the definition of the term, since it's so easy to argue over it. He clearly doesn't actually care to play these games on a switch, and likely does not even own a switch to begin with.

>they have persistence outside of every run, which firmly disqualifies them from being roguelikes
So youre saying rogue isnt a roguelike?

what?
nintendo having ALL OF PC'S ROUGELIKES is too much for you PCfag?

It's a reimagining called Ultimate ADOM, was announced two years ago. Some blend of the OG and a new graphical version with more features etc.

Rogue didn't let you bank items to use in other runs, nor did it have a hub that kept its progress in between runs.

So yes, it still is a roguelike, unlike mystery dungeon games

name a modern roguelike that isn't played by like 2 people then

Gungeon, Isaac, Nuclear Throne, Mana Sparks, Blazing Beaks, Wizard of Legend, Downwell, Dead Cells, and Steredenn aren't enough varied and interesting games for you?

These are all meme games user

fuck you mean "meme games"

Has Been Heroes is pretty good. I really enjoyed it.

none of those are roguelikes

>implying I'm not playing the DOS version of pic/related right now on my switch

literally all of them are

gtfo with this gatekeeping bullshit, sweaty neckbeard

Ask the Jupiter Hell dev.

there's a set criteria for roguelikes and all of them break huge parts of it, cry harder tranny

>set criteria
jfc you sound like a goddamn lawyer, it's video games you tard

Would Nethack work in the modern age?

that shit is so dated. imagine actually thinking that genre mixing and creative liberties devalue a game's legitimacy in it's genre
sick argument incel

So optional persistence is instant disqualification even if it's perfectly avoidable? Talking strictly about the first Mystery Dungeon on the SNES, you don't have to unlock partners or use the warehouses to complete a run.

Omiken is pretty cool if you are into that sorta thing, Dragon's Dogma is also fun but I dont know what the Switch's port is like

You don't have to not play a game just to make a distinction between two different genres. You can play more than one genre

based and saved
Adding permadeath and procedural generation doesn't make your game a roguelike you fucking retard. These things existed before rogue was even a thing.
Not him, but stuff like PMD is where the roguelite term actually makes sense.

Only in bard mode.

>they have persistence outside of every run, which firmly disqualifies them from being roguelikes. Nothing carries over between games in a true roguelike.
Lmao
Persistince between runs does not disqualify from roguelike
The requirements for rogue like are r turn based on a square grid and not about controlling a squad of people.

Doesn’t look like much good is on sale right now sorry

Dragon's Dogma runs great on Switch and is honestly one of the only Capcom games on the console that doesn't have a caveat or drawback.

Where are the chunsoft titles like PMD and Shiren? Izuna?

I bet Caves of Qud would be good on the Switch.

figured it must be decent if it has a dedicated tool for moving saves between the PC version and it

just emulate DS titles.

Is Wonder boy and cursed kingdom still on sale? I can't check right now.

You're retarded. If a game is a turn based grid based non-modal dungeon crawler with gameplay mechanics reminiscent of Rogue and roguelikes like Nethack, Angband and Crawl then it's ridiculous not to call it a roguelike. There is no advantage to using your definition, it's just inconvenient and nothing else. If you specifically want a roguelike with permadeath then you can just specify "roguelike with permadeath" or ask for a traditional style roguelike.

In any case, having one single feature disqualify something from a genre is always retarded regardless of what it is. That's just not how genres work outside of very literal genre names like "first person shooter". Not even the Berlin interpretation works that way, there's a reason it's listed as "high value factors" and "low value factors". Something can be "like rogue" in many different ways

almost all of these games have more rogue elements than just procedural generation and permadeath.
Large item pools with randomly spawning items, multi-layer levels (usually with an underlying theme), hack and slash gameplay, etc. are all themes seen across these games that are supposedly "not roguelike:

yes is it good?

why would you do that when you can just use your phone instead?

>all this shit
Do you let other men fuck your bitch too? Or is it just your mother?

based as fuck

I played The Dragon's Trap. That one was really good. I wanted more like it but I didn't buy Cursed Kingdom at the time.

Is Angband a roguelike? Discovered monster info carries on between runs of the same character

>My arbitrary definition is right yours is wrong
Autism

>facts hurt his feelings
loser faggot

Very convincing argument, i withdraw my point

Is it actually good? I don't give a shit about anime tiddies, I just want a good roguelike.

Thank you.

>tiny text
WHYYYYYY???? This is inexcusable. Xenoblade X was an egregious offender of this. Utterly infuriating.

Just use the zoom in feature brainlet
You just double tap the home button

dead cells

> persistence between runs means a game is no longer in the slightest "like rogue"
shoot yourself.
Obviously a game where the only real reminiscence to rogue is that you have "runs" can't be called a roguelike, but if it's got at least 60-70% of the stuff (game area changes each run, gameplay is turn-based and top down, generally above average difficulty, tons of depth and stuff to learn) then it's a fucking roguelike. If it has at least 30-40% of the requirements (death at least resets you back to the beginning) then it's a roguelite.

>hack and slash gameplay
are you retarded? hack and slash is are realtime action genre. roguelikes are turn based, cell based combat dumbfuck

Does anyone know what font this is? It's kind of appealing.

What's the point of branching questions on the right side if they all just lead to the same spot?

So Toejam and Earl is not a roguelike simply because characters don't move on a grid? That pic is pretty bullshit.

Slay the spire

user rogue lite is not roguelike, but op should state that he wants a rogue clone not a roguelike

Binding of Isaac is still the best game in that genre, and afterbirth+ is on the switch

>Remaster
Remake, they changed a lot of stuff. Dungeons, cut scenes, ect.

>Omega Labyrinth life
>Not roguelike
You're a retard

also good if you like to wait for new content apparently

what the fuck are you going on about

the content he announced is just a mod that he is slapping his name on and editing a bit. im content with the amount to do in the game currently

You better get on Wikipedia and edit all of their pages user, because they all say roguelike and clearly you know better

>Wikipedia says they're roguelikes so it must be true!

Rogue Aces
