individually, standouts are hong kong after the helipad, sub base and ocean lab, but honestly the intro trio of liberty island+unatco+battery park is a probably the reason why I keep replaying the game

You can bind the augs to new keys in the options. They're labeled under F3-F12 instead of being labeled as augs, though.
I set light to X, Power Recirculator to Tab, and Vision Enhancement to Ctrl. Everything else I just left as F keys, because I don't use them all too frequently. I still use the aug menu if I'm enabling multiple at once, though (like power recirculator, cloak, and speed enhancement) so as to not waste any juice during the time I hit the keys.

I think you can even just rebind the augs keys.

No, the augs are always mapped to specific F-keys (flashlight is always F12), and you can't remap those keys.

GMDX basically takes Deus Ex 1 and revamps it to modernish standards without dumbing stuff down. It took a lot of quality-of-life improvements from Mankind Divided.

vandenberg and versalife are best for gameplay.

Versalife lets you explore the map and interact with the characters before you have to trigger the alarm which makes the escape so good. Having to use the corridors and shortcuts that you discovered on your initial exploration makes it so satisfying

Best level for atmosphere and exploration is hong kong. The market and maggie's apartment building are top tier locations
