One of my least favorite Final Fantasy, of the ones I've played. Also the only one I've started and not finished. I didn't even mind the junction feature, I just couldn't give a shit about the story. I got about 15 hours in and just stopped. It had nothing to grip me in the beginning.

FFVIII has got the best FF OST of all time, and one of the best OST of any game period.
You can say whatever you want about the game, but the OST and the artwork were fucking brilliant. A lot of FF have plenty great themes, but in terms of quantity and quality FFVIII wins by a large margin.

FFVII has got the most overrated because people love the game, FFVIII the most underrated for the opposite reason. Even IX has got a better OST than VII.

I really tried to playthrough this game and tried twice, but I couldn't get more than 7 hours into the game. The junction and draw systems are so shit. I don't know what they were thinking especially since this came after 7 and it's materia system.

I'd prefer something like hand tweak ESRGAN, but that's basically all I wanted from the outset for these games. Maybe also some tweaks to mechanics and such, but visually speaking, that's all I wanted.

the trick to the draw system is to utterly ignore it aside from a list of summons you have to draw. It doesn't save it from being a sub-par game in the series, but it makes it far easier to interact with at least.

I don't know if it's because I'm taking my time and fucking around with triple triad too much but it's getting kinda long to finish. I just got to disc 3 and clocked in around 40 hours. Is disc 4 like FFVII's disc3 where it's basically just the last dungeon?
