What part of this game did not also have substance? Maybe the block mechanic?
Style and substance are moreoften intermingled than not
Genuinely the closest thing to an anime you'll ever get
>What part of this game did not also have substance?
The gameplay.
It's not inherently bad, just don't expect to be able to fellate the game without any criticism of the shallow nature of it. When people say things like MGR is a fantastic game, that is a claim that warrants discussion of the gameplay itself, and it is not off limits.
If you don't use the konami code the hardest difficulty you start with in MGRR is hard which is not hard at all.
And even if you use the konami code the extra two difficulties relies on you to at least have played the game before to get used to the controls and mechanics.
Don't get me wrong, Revengeance is a really fun game, but you can come up with something better.
>not Asura's Wrath
Asura's Wrath ain't no game, boy
I started playing El Shaddai today and I really like it. I can see a lot of that kind of criticism towards it though.
Asura's Wrath is interactive anime and that is completely fine
>Revengance mode
>hard
Revengance mode is piss easy because of how much damage perfect parries do, and by the time you've even unlocked revengance mode, you should have PP down unless you're a huge shitter. Landing a PP on Sam does a little under fucking 50% of his health.
Asura's wrath is fun

what do you like about it?
it's on my to-play list
The game is incredibly short and, as fun as it is, many of its mechanics are a result of it being unpolished and are what you must rely on in the unbalanced VR missions.
It has its own failings but it's still a good game.
Its story is also hilariously bad due to its initial simplicity. It later tries to be complex and deep but it ends up incredibly forced.
I still love it though.
not him but the visuals and setting are pretty interesting. other than that it's fairly boring.
Exceptional visuals, music and an intriguing story, at least so far. The action gameplay is simple but satisfying enough.
MGRR has neither retarded dicklet. Its a fucking ugly ass brown and grey shit that gets curbstomped stylistically even by the other metal gear games let alone games of its genre that want to prioritize style like DMC and are nothing but weird demons in gothic environments fighting matrix anime men in red coats. MGRR is "style" to the same actual bronies who think that dragon ball is friggin epic when one character is engulfed by energy and shouts harder than the other character before shooting a planet sized energy beam

Rising unironically had substance though
The problem is there's nothing in the game that challenges the player to where these techniques can be more freely used. VR missions are mostly a joke and/or tedious nonsense like "use ninja kill" or "use the clunky sub-weapons (meaning you can't even parry)". The only exception off the top of my head that is a legitimate challenge of skill is trying to S rank Sam's 4th one.
