I'm mostly fine with the RNG, but the issue of the language barrier really is huge and IMO is enough to ban the character. Like imagine you're a US player and you go to a Japanese tournament and lose to a Hero player because you literally couldn't tell which spell he was selecting. That's really bullshit. Surely the answer cannot be "just learn every language in the world, get good lol" and it also wouldn't be fair for a TO to force every player to play in a certain language* either for obvious reasons. (Although if it was a European tournament German would maybe be a fine standard because that language is very easy to learn... But the fact that I've even had to make that point should show you how absurd this is )
To make the direct comparison with a statement in my earlier paragraph: "Hero's command menu would be within the scope of accepted gameplay were it not for the fact that not every player speaks 18 languages and the game is only capable of displaying one language at once"
>Smash players want to ban reading because it's too hard. Can't even make this shit up.
Kayden Thompson
English speakers would've learned japanese just to get around square's bullshit of taking 50 years to translate a game. Hero truly is a pleb filter for even his own fanbase.
Jaxon Ross
Leffen go to sleep, nobody likes you.
Benjamin Young
There are actually some people out there who thing the language thing isn't an issue. I can't believe this shit any more. This is a meme universe and I'm going insane.
Hunter Allen
>Literally can not read. You're right, this is some meme universe.
I honestly want you to consider how often you're going to go to a tournament in another country, run into this exact character, and have the match decided because you can't read their shit.
Tyler Johnson
Based retard ESL-kun. If you cant learn a dozen words in a foreign language, let alone one that is the universal gold standard language used all around the world, then you should just find a new hobby. I play mahjong competitively, and you know what? I learned all of the jap words for game mechanics so I wouldn't sound like a handicapped retard when i play. Not a big deal.
Charles Howard
What is "riichi"? I watched Akagi but I didn't really learn much about mahjong so all I got out of it was that when you say "riichi" you're supposed to throw some sticks and then smirk confidently.
Anthony Ross
>americans would ban a character because learning few words in other languages is too hard. ftfy
Justin Myers
>trying to throw the blame on to the Americlaps. Nice try, Smashfag.
It does, actually. It also gives Hero some extra voice acting.
Daniel Reed
When your hand is in "tenpai", aka you are one tile away from going out with your hand, you can declare "riichi" where you bet 1000p (the stick he throws in) and then your hand is locked in. You have to discard every tile that comes your way, unless you draw a winning tile or steal from someone else. If you win, you get your 1000 back and also the tile under each dora indicator is revealed as another dora, so your hand can get massive
Michael Jones
Don’t travel the fucking world to go to tournaments if you have no understanding of the common language of the place you’re going to.
Gabriel Howard
>Like imagine you're a US player and you go to a Japanese tournament and lose to a Hero player because you literally couldn't tell which spell he was selecting. Just learn the spell names in English and Japanese. You'll pretty much never have to deal with anything else
Jacob Bell
Riichi means reach
Carter King
all arguments I've seen against the language point are some variation of "everyone plays/should play in English anyway" and the US is the largest Smash scene in the world, so yes, implying this is an American issue isn't as absurd as it might seem
Liam Williams
Hero SHOULD be banned for the simple reason that a native-born speaker will always read a language faster than someone who learns it specifically for competitive play. It's a mechanic that encourages inherent advantage, which is not condusive to competitive play. Period.
Leo Long
you sound like a retard
Dylan Barnes
That's not even true though. What if you read fast or since you only know those words it's easier to tell them a native, you are just assuming and crying over a minor birth advantages that you assume weirdly when that is present in all competition by default. Some people are born. better readers, they have an advantage like people born with specific finger sizes. The fact that it's not exclusive to a language means it should be allowed.
Hudson Powell
>The fact that it's not exclusive to a language means it should be allowed. It's not exclusive, but it is relevant, especially when you introduce *multiple* languages.
It's also not specific to the game itself. It requires a secondary skill that no other character needs.
It'd be like if they added a character that required you push a button with a third arm. Any player with a third arm would have an inherent advantage. And sure, you might be able to cobble together something with a broom handle and some string, but there's no guarantee that it would perform as well as someone born with a third arm. Meanwhile, no other character requires a third arm, so you're tacitly discouraged from even trying to *learn* that character. That's bad competitive design.
Brandon Scott
What kind of faggotry is this?
William Evans
Smash is a party game that you play with friends that got memed into being competitive
Jeremiah Brooks
>playing smash against someone who you doesn't understand your bantz I really don't understand the purpose
