OP there are a lot of us who fucking loved Chrono Cross. Yeah, it had its weaknesses of course. And specifically it wasn't at all "Chrono Trigger 2" which is what a lot of autists wanted, it was its own unique thing. But it was fucking awesome, great world, great experience, some of the best art direction and look of the PS1-era, and one of the best OSTs of the PS1-era.

Remember Yea Forums is full of edgy contrarians who will see something that's popular and an 8 or 9/10 and call it 1/10.

its a genuinely excellent game and probably one of the best examples of Low Poly and jRPGs
Music is excellent, gameplay is fun. locations are great, characters (while not fleshed out, are memorable and good looking, theres a choice for every taste) it has great challenge that weeds out weaklings.

The dragons are literally part of the final enemy you seek to destroy that join up with Lavos, and you do so. The whole "bad humans" thing is enemy propaganda brought about by the far future descendents of the lizard people from CT in an alternate reality where they won and exterminated humans. Then they get their shit kicked in by Chronopolis.

In the end humans win and that's not shown as a bad thing at all. It's a bit of a genuine twist that it seems at first like it's going to be some "oh evil tech is bad FATE is all bad" like is so common in JRPGs but no, FATE was actually the human created AI and sought to defend humanity from the bio-AIs made by the filthy lizards.

Like this is actually interesting to me, is this why so many people didn't like CC, because they just couldn't comprehend or didn't get far enough to get this? FFS.

The only thing people don't like is the unnecessary connection to Trigger, but mechanically, aesthetically and design wise, its a 10/10 title that even got rated as such in a time where it really wasnt as common as it is today.

Nah, Terranigma had some pretty rough spots with its level scaling and boss fights. Trigger is a smooth ride from start to finish and has much better pacing and design.

Kato was kept on a tight leash by Horii and Sakaguchi during CT's development, which helped wrangle in some of his wackier ideas. I seriously doubt those two wanted Cross to take the direction that Kato took it. And you can't say their input doesn't matter - they're the ones who led and organized CT as a project.

Inferior art style, got caught up with the sort of battle system experiments that plagued PS1 JRPGs instead of being like CT which was, even for the time, a fairly streamlined system with one neat gimmick in dual/triple techs. All of the main characters unceremoniously killed off screen and all of their work negated, which was not the case in Radical Dreamers. Parallel timelines destroy the singular timeline framework of CT. Why are there dragons out of nowhere and what the hell do they have to do with CT?

Well, until CT DS happened and introduced that colony of Reptites that survived the fall of Lavos and formed their own society on some remote island on the northeastern-most part of the world. I completely agree with the first two points (except maybe the preachy part) and add that the game focuses more on set scenes rather than interesting characters and a coherent story (like most subsequent Final Fantasy).

No, the reptite joke ending is not the same as a parallel timeline; CT works on one persistent timeline that has parts of it rewritten, not parallel timelines.

Except not at all. CT never addressed many-worlds hypothesis at all, and that you messing with the timeline might split off a new universe each time meaning that every (non-joke) CT ending is canon. It just wasn't something in the game, nor would it actually matter since it'd still make sense for you to try to create a good end universe through your own efforts. It doesn't mess with CT one bit by definition.
