Having the mavericks actually turn out to mostly be neutral and not "evil" and have very good reasons for trying to declare a reploid only nation, and exploring the corruption of the fascist government that X works for was a nice change of pace from your normal "mavericks want to kill all humans!" plot.

I also like the continuing plot idea of Command mission and X8 of X being declared Obsolete and holding back reploids by newer models, and kind of wish they could deviate into a new timeline without the zero series to continue on that route.

Robots in the megaman series have been built with mindsets based on that of humans-- Light wasn't trying to build logical toasters he was trying to build things with SOULS, basically robotic humans.
As robotics is almost completely based off of his work in the MM series timeline, all future robots are likewise modeled after human minds.

As such, if you make an AI modeled after humanity and stick it in an inhuman body, you're asking for mental instability to crop up.
The humans mind seeks to view itself as "human", and gains stability from self esteem about their appearance and whatnot.

In short, if you make a female robot based off of how Light designed robots, its going to be much less likely to develop psychosis if you make its body look like that of an attractive human being.

Having a "Strong man and weaker female" is the normal traditional pairing in japanese culture. A reploid, by its very nature, is inherently stronger and more dominant/dangerous than the human in the pairing.

As such, having a Male human and a female reploid kind of flips how the japanese mindset is accustomed to a "proper" relationship, hence why its rarely done.

GV is one of the few games that I can think of that having a moral fag hero would make the protag more sympathetic. Half of the bosses he remorselessly kills don't really deserve it. Take Elise, who was just a poor teenager when her head was fucked with and struggles to contain her evil side. GV just kills her and says some snarky one-liner after doing it. Zonda is a fucking 10 year old super powered child and he blows her head off. Like X kills dudes who didn't deserve it either, but at least he feels bad after wards.
