How did they manage to make these enemies kinda smart? I mean they seem to be smarter than most modern enemies.
because the maps are so simple the a.i. appears smart. unironically like pac-man
Modern games have small, secluded maps like Half-Life yet their enemies are retards.
This is also true for the games that were released in Half-Life's age too, its enemies were smarter than the rest.
Search "half life ai" on youtube, there are a few quite good videos about how it works.
Valve used to actually care about the game and put insane work and detail into them. Heck, Gaben initially wanted real time moss growth that would grow in areas that you would return to.
Enemies in modern games are intentionally designed to be retarded so that it's easier for players to sneak up on them and perform cool kill-moves on them
no one puts a lot of work into them
that's why games like Half Life and FEAR stand out
also, the radio chatter helps immensely since it appears like they're communicating and operating as a team
well no, you as a player are just more powerful in modern games than in og half-life. ads, autoaim, perks, recharging health and armor and long rooms with a lot of distance between you and the ai gives the player an unfair advantage
