How could they have made it better? and what would you want from sequels if they ever happen?
How could they have made it better? and what would you want from sequels if they ever happen?
Remake the game from the ground up.
I'd keep the combat. It was probably the only enjoyable part of it
I like the idea of colonizing space. Hate the fact that every planet you go in is practically already lived in. I suppose there's something to be said about being a refugee and there's definitely some good storytelling you can pull there but they all failed to do that in Andromeda.
Better fucking writers that aren't obsessed with Josh Whedon. Whittle down the setting from a bunch of planets to one planet and a moon and have it have several biomes you have to do shit in. You know, actually colonize a planet. We don't need new fucking aliens from Andromeda yet, just put that in the sequel. Just have the aliens on Milky Way with a couple of new species or something. Make a game about the nightmare of trying to manage these fucknuts into not dying on the first planet they settle on. Then you can have hints of that stupid ancient alien shit or just scrap that entirely. I hate these fucking retards.
>Frustratingly little control over squadmates, why even have them if you cannot control them?
>Profile Cooldowns and no way to change weapons on mission completely kills the concept.
>No Fun crafting system that just makes numbers bigger and doesn't give you many options to actually change the gun.
>Enemies are either ranged or big melee units that instakill when you get near, the jetboosts only serve to get you back into cover faster.
It's been long so I'm certain i'm forgetting something.
You put all your AAA budget into something you're going to get something that at least looks good but it doesn't change the fact that it's poorly designed.
>I like the idea of colonizing space. Hate the fact that every planet you go in is practically already lived in.
This was the worst.
"We're scientist, not military", yet 90% of the game is shooting rock monsters.
"We're Explorers", yet you never actually discover anything. The aliens have already been met and the off-brand Twi'leks are even integrated into the rebel society, outside one bit in the prologue any strange structure or machine found is immediately explained by SAM because the Space Pioneer premise is getting in the way of shooting space monsters.
Game is just missing a sense of mystery, ME1 had stuff like the Rogue AI on the moon or the Prothean Sphere that gave you visions of cavemen.
>the jetboosts only serve to get you back into cover faster
The enemies at least lose track of you when you boost so it's a great tool for dodging and weaving around. Loved my vanguard/biotic playthrough with it although I think it's the most fun build of the new gameplay.
Mass Effect was one of my favourite sagas. The kind of game you can forgive almost anything. But the dialogs alone and the ridiculous scenes just threw me off. For what I know it's a discontinued game from the original saga, it's not Shepard anymore. So maybe just give it another try with another disconnected game.
>made it better
>EA

interactive sexscenes
Have more than one new race (no the kett don't count because they're just tranformed from other races) and make it about actually trying to form colonies in planets, building and maintaining relationships with new races, deciding whether to try to live peacefully in a new galaxy or take what you can to make the initiative thrive, by force if necessary, and generally just being a fucking pathfinder instead of AN ANCIENT EVIL HAS AWAKENED BWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMP YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE BWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMP. Basically remove the fucking kett and the magic remnant sudoku bullshit from the game all together.
Dragon Age Origins style where you can pick the species of your main character, Turian Asari Krogan, etc
>I like the idea of colonizing space
Me too, but I hate Bioware's vision of colonization.
You just can't go into the unknown when both your ship and your land vehicle have no weapon systems.
>Better fucking writers that aren't obsessed with Josh Whedon.
It's hard these days to find good writers. They all grew up watching Whedon's crap.
>How could they have made it better?
They can't. Bioware can't make a good game anymore. They're blinded by their ideology.
This. Let me play as an awkward, autistic krogan goddamnit
delete it from my memory
>Me too, but I hate Bioware's vision of colonization.
>Expecting Bioware to let you go full "we're taking your shit, resist and die" colonisation
No fucking chance
Bring back the wild west climate they teased in the first trailer. And make more interesting alien species instead of these two generic races we got.
Why the fuck does this game look like shit?
Not even 1 looked this bad and this game is constantly freezing and runs like shit. Not to mention the story makes no fucking sense
How the fuck did they manage to fuck up this badly?
Didn't a B team do this? Not only a B team but a B team that were made up of fresh grads?
It was the support studio that handled ME3 multiplayer.
>Why the fuck does this game look like shit?
On console maybe but on PC it's looks pretty good, except for Kadara.
Somehow it's never Bioware Edmonton's fault, they always put the blame on another studio. If it's not Montreal it's Austin (who tried to unfuck the shit they've made on ME:A and Anthem).
>looks pretty good
Sure, the character models look like crap (that's not new for a ME game) and the new races were uninspired because Bioware didn't want to make a new skeleton for the animation.
>How could they have made it better?
all the refugees form milky way could have been white nazi humans sent by cerberus, all aliens would be new and cool, and 'the big threat' should have been andromeda reapers, since all galaxies have the same issue with AIs and organics, and 'reaper solution' is acually universal, meaning all galaxies suffer of the same war between orgacins and repers, and Shepard's solution only affected the milky way, so in the MEA series you need to create a solution to the rest of the universe, that game would have had epic scale
>all the refugees form milky way could have been white nazi humans sent by cerberus
I'm still amazed that Bioware thought that no one would've noticed that there was no white skin tones and caucasian features in the character creation menu. TFW they quickly made a "white" skin on Photoshop and shipped it in a later patch.
>unlimited creative potential
>is safe and boring
How
>there was no white skin tones and caucasian features
I actually didn't know before
As I recall there was a backlash, but that isn't even counting the stiff animations or the "my face is tired".
It was a shitshow all the way through. But then one of the devs were horrifyingly racist and nothing was done to them.
Redesign all the new aliens to be more alien. i.e. not 2 arms, 2 eyes, lips, and nose bipeds.
Greater emphasis on colonization and exploration.
More boss fights on the same tier as those giant machines in the open world.
More weird shit.
Get rid of blue dyke
Playable Turian, Krogan, Asari, and Quarian. If it worked for Inquisition, it can work for mass effect.
Yeah, they had a feature that would change your father character model based on your custom Ryder. The default Ryder siblings and their father are white but if you make a custom Ryder, your father would always be either black or pajeet.
2 patches later, they added an ugly white skintone that looked like something made in 10s in Photoshop. When I say white it's white, not realistically "pink", so the in-game model would look like a zombie.
It's safe to say that Bioware didn't make a mistake, they didn't "forget" to include white skin tones. You just have to look at their next game (Anthem) to see their vision of the future.
MAYBE I'M FOOLISH
MAYBE I'M BLIND
>~100 million budget
Remove the open world
Take inspiration from Star Trek TOS, game is abou discovering new planets and people and shit
Episodic approach to the main quest
Replace half the fucking cast
Drop the crafting shit
Get some actual good alien designers
Drop the Frostbite engine
Crunch for months on a complete mess of a game that you know will never be good
Consider a reality where you were never bought by EA and had more freedom to pursue better games
Suicide
alternatively, completely scrap the game, use the 100 MILLION DOLLARS to fund a sequel to Jade Empire made by the original team
>How could they have made it better?
It is flawed in a deeply fundamental level. Without remaking the game from the most basic mechanics and up, it is an unsalvagable mess. And even so, it could have been OK, if the writing and squadmates carried the game, but this is the worst cast of characters in a Bioware game I've seen, voiced by the most talentless of VAs, because of the union strike they pulled at the time the game was still in development, no doubt and the plot was so ... cookie cutter and executed in the least interesting way possible.
>and what would you want from sequels if they ever happen?
To have nothing to do with anyone involved in Andromeda, including the Kett and whoever is working behind them. Just scrape them. They all died in a different cluster, when a star there went Super Nova. Fix itemization, entirely new crew and cast, build up the worlds to have them be something more than Ice, Desert, Lava and Jungle planets. Scrap the crew, scrap Ryder and every authority figure on the Arcs and the Nexus, they were all terrible. Scrap the profile system for the powers. Maybe keep the jetpack, if it actually has some meaningful use, other than just "here's a platform you have to jump to" and less keeping it in as an afterthought, like "oh yeah, I have a jetpack, maybe I should jump around like a retard for this fight".
It's a fucking mess. It needs so many things to be fixed, its easier to just go back to the Milky Way, with a post Reaper war pre-fixed state and go on from there.
1) You're the first ones there. You get actual colonisation, diplomacy, tough choices, FIRST CONTACT THAT ISN'T "JUST SHOOT THEM LOL"
2) A time skip to see the impacts of your choices playing out. Think dragon age 2 but good.
3) More than one goddamn alien species. No I don't count the Kett as separate
4) A villain that doesn't rely on the main character being retarded. yes, I'm aware this has been the case since 2, but shooting yourself in the foot because you've done it twice before doesn't make it a good idea.
5) Moral choice between coexisting with the natives and barging your way in. Both would have positives and negatives.
6) Don't blow the budget on a few stunt casts that are barely in it. Even 3 was well known for great voice performances, and this is something you can't afford to lose.
7) No Krogan. Seriously. Why the fuck would you even think bringing them is a good idea?
8) A QA team that actually gets listened to
the entire fucking game is a piece of shit
you can't put chocolate sprinkles on a turd and call it an improvement
it's rotten to the fucking core - you would have to start from scratch
Manveer didn't work on Andromeda
He was temp employee and his contract was not renewed after Inquisition.
>Previous games have you play as a veteran special forces soldier
>He's charismatic, commanding, and enforces military discipline in his ship. The people helping him respect him.
>Andromeda has you play as a soi boi bitch that hasn't shot anyone before
>Zero charisma, everyone walks over him, game constantly talks about how everyone wearing military armor and wielding military weapons are not military. The people helping him respect him so little he cannot even dismiss team meetings properly.
The open world was also not a good match for Mass Effect but the writing really fucking bothered me. I can't remember one bit of narrative that I actually enjoyed, or that made sense. Like that Turian that everyone thought murdered that one guy, and he didn't, but he tried to and so there's this decision where you have to keep him in jail for the original crime or let him go. Attempted murder is still a serious crime but apparently Andromeda's writers have never heard of that.
>No Krogan
This. I hate how everyone in the fandom consider them misunderstood good guys. In game almost always Krogans can't keep up order among themselves and are problem for everyone else.
It's because real world politics are being applied to aliens, and that was the intent of the writers starting with 2. In the real world, all people are (roughly) the same, and so when a certain group of people are being oppressed, it's (usually) unfair, which is why they shoehorned curing the genophage into being the Paragon choice. However, the Krogan aren't normal people, they're violent bloodthirsty unstoppable monsters that pump out thousands of kids at a time and would leave the galaxy in ruins if left unchecked, there needs to be something in place to keep that from happening, be it a plague that knocks their reproduction down to the same level as everyone else, or just competent leadership in the form of Wrex and Eve. In reality, if Wrex isn't alive, sabotaging the Genophage should be the Paragon choice, but we can't have that kind of nuance because muh oppressed minorities.
she just looks bad because her face is tired.
I wanted there to be a side-quest that showed she was actually an advanced alien attempting to wear a human suit.
>7) No Krogan. Seriously. Why the fuck would you even think bringing them is a good idea?
Especially when Bioware retconned the Krogan society in ME:A to make it more inclusive and [current year].
>Manveer didn't work on Andromeda
Bioware said that he was a temp but that's not true. He worked on ME3 multiplayer and Andromeda.
>Andromeda has you play as a soi boi bitch that hasn't shot anyone before
>everyone walks over him
>The people helping him respect him so little he cannot even dismiss team meetings properly
And this was actually something I liked in concept: playing as a character that still didn't have their Akuze, Elysium or Torfan happen to them. The thing is that this game should have had such a moment, a la Virmire choice or a Suicide Mission happen to them so they become someone like Shepard.
>8) A QA team that actually gets listened to
Listening to QA teams is what got weapon cooling removed from the game in Mass Effect 2.
It was originally supposed to be that you could allow your weapon to cool and replace the thermal clip in emergencies, but that was too complex for the QA team.
>7) No Krogan
This.
Of all the non council species, Quarians make the most sense as they don't have a world during the period when the initiative departs the milkyway.
And are an entire race of space engineers with a high affinity for Artificial Intelligence.
Also could use the same animation as Turians, which makes development costs cheaper.
How they changed it exactly? I have never played the game. I know about the female leader and pic related
>It was originally supposed to be that you could allow your weapon to cool and replace the thermal clip in emergencies, but that was too complex for the QA team
>but that was too complex for the QA team
Fuck that QA team then - the idea of managing thermal clips was something I had hoped would be done in Andromeda.
>and what would you want from sequels if they ever happen?
Let's go back to the Milky Way. Let me be a space cop after the Reaper War is over, but everything in my little sector is kind of going to shit, you know, because of all the war that happened. It's a bit like LA Noir except it's you and a Krogan in a classic odd couple, and he's always making cracks about how the car is too small. Or maybe make it a female Krogan, because of how up in the the air everything is they're allowed to do stuff now, and you can avoid that character being too like Wrex. Don't have any main characters from earlier in the series show up at all.
>But what about the different endings in 3?
Anyone who wasn't indoctrinated/insane chose destroy anyway. Shep's dead, baby, Shep's dead. Yeah, even if you beat it on insanity.
Like the pic I posted earlier, they're "re-educating" the male Krogans, the females can do whatever they want (including being part of the commandos), the writers retconned the Genophage so now they can have babies.
I would be ok with it if ME:A took place a long time after ME3 but the Arks left the Milky Way during ME2, so they can't have a culture and a society that is radically different.
Keep the weapon crafting. Sticky grenade assault rifles were fucking cool. Also don't just limit me to romance. I wanna fffffuuuuuuuuuuuck.
By not making it.
Mass Effect 3 killed the series indefinitely. The only way Andromeda could've been good was if it retconned the ending of 3 to not be trash.
Wrex 2.0s granddaughter is a super engineer.
Wrex 2.0 knows who his granddaughter is, contradicting previous fluff.
Krogan society is extremely (for lack of a better word) misogynistic. Krogan live in a gender segregated society; and clans are, according to Bakara, a male thing. So why is a female in charge, it contradicts previous lore.
The genophage is somewhat cured whilst the Krogan were in cryostasis (how?)
They are poor oppressed good boys, who dindu nufin' but the evil racist council races wouldn't give them a voice in running the nexus.
Best gun.
I hate it. I hate when the main character in a game or story is an inexperienced rookie or a newbie. One of the main reasons I like Rockstar protagonists so much is that all their main characters are seasoned veterans in their respective fields with the knowledge, confidence, and skill that implies. I think Franklin was their least experienced protagonist but even he had years of crime under his belt along with the raw talent and willingness to pull the trigger. I think the only times I enjoyed playing as a rookie in a video game was in Resident Evil 2 and Titanfall 2.
The first mission on the planet when they reach Andromeda should have been Ryder's Akuze. Team Milky Way jumped into a warzone where they're outmatched, things are already falling apart, and their colonization mission has become a full fledged survival situation. Ryder is the Milky Way's last, best hope and yet he acts like he can't even stand tall. The motherfucker should have weight and then throw that weight around. Death is at everyone's door and yet people are cracking third-rate Wheden-esque quips and the narrative constantly defers to respect womyn, use my correct pronouns, why yes I am transexual while don't I mention that highly private topic in my first conversation with you stranger. Everyone should be banding together and putting their stupid bullshit aside to survive the threat looming over them all.
The Genophage never took away their ability to create babies.
How Krogan birth works:
Pop out thousands of eggs, they all hatch into thousands of krogan. They all fight each-other and the best ones continue the race forward.
How Krogan birth with Genophage works:
Pop out thousands of Krogan, only 1 of them makes it. Just like normal fucking birth.
Oh the fucking humanity, they have normal birth rates, fuck - what a catastrophe.
Maybe change your fucking culture around the now normal birthrates you dumbass fucks.
Turian scum off my board.
>the writers retconned the Genophage so now they can have babies.
>The genophage is somewhat cured whilst the Krogan were in cryostasis (how?)
Nothing new, Krogan organisms healing up from Genophage on their own was a thing even since ME2. Mordin had the sub-plo about this.
>Krogan live in a gender segregated society; and clans are, according to Bakara, a male thing.
Again that was a thing even since ME2
I liked the idea of exploring the new galaxy. It should've been more dark and edgy though. Maybe throw horror elements into it, I dunno.
New MC offered so many opportunities. Shepard was always limited by the Council/Illusive Man/the Alliance. In Andromeda you basically inherit the whole military branch of the exploration project. The new MC should've been able to overthrow dumb and corrupt bureaucracts.
>The Genophage never took away their ability to create babies.
It was the intent though. The council races wanted to control the Krogans' birthrate. They could still have babies but 90% of them would die.
>Again that was a thing even since ME2
That's... what I said, but in ME:A it's not a gender segregated society anymore. You can have female warriors, warlords, mercs, scientists, etc. The leader of the Krogan colony on Elaaden is female (the one with the gay lisp).
>>Krogan live in a gender segregated society; and clans are, according to Bakara, a male thing.
>Again that was a thing even since ME2
Read the full line retard, I was pointing out how it's a thing in the Milkyway but not in Andromeda.
>>The genophage is somewhat cured whilst the Krogan were in cryostasis (how?)
The Krogan in Andromeda claimed that during cryosleep they were curing the genophage. I'm pointing out that that's impossible, they are cryogenically frozen. Nothing happens at a cellular level when you are cryogenically frozen so how can you recover from the genophage whilst being so?
>in ME:A it's not a gender segregated society anymore
It makes sense though. Colonists have to stick together.
> I think the only times I enjoyed playing as a rookie in a video game was in Resident Evil 2 and Titanfall 2
Then imagine Ryder as being Cooper without a mech - a dude/gal who's a subordinate of a badass operator (preferably not their fucking dad) who was forced to step in their shoes after they got killed / went rogue / [insert another reason here] and is competent enough to manage doing that but lacking real-life experience ( which is why other team mates wouldn't respect you until you reach the crucible mission).
>The first mission on the planet when they reach Andromeda should have been Ryder's Akuze
IMO, that's way too soon - I'd have waited until the half of the game for that crucible mission. To be clear, that doesn't mean I want the starting missions to be a stroll in the park. When I thought up of how I'd like to see Andromeda start, it was pretty similar to what Bioware did (i.e. getting up to find out you're way off course and that shit isn't going according to plan) but the tone Bioware went with was wrong.
Yeah that fucking makes sense on planets without Thresher Maws.
>hey krogan fuck you we're destroying your birth rates and instead of making it just that you can spit out 1 viable egg a year, we're going to make you waste resources supporting a thousand eggs and pray that one of them doesn't die
>what's that? your extremely inhospitable planet makes it so that your low birth rate makes it impossible to create culture because your species and living conditions are designed to overcome adversity with pure numbers? that sucks.
>oh you want a colony so that you don't live on a hell rock with some of the most vicious ecology in the galaxy while trying to maintain crippled numbers? nah fuck you. you rebelled like 2 thousand years ago and we're still shitting our pants over it.
Honestly wouldn't even be mad if Wrex decided on revenge. The galactic community has some revenge coming for that catch-22 bullshit.
This shit has been so fucked since 2 that the series is completely unsalvageable at this point. There isn't anything anyone can do at this point
i wouldn't mind story where you're c-sec/spectre chasing criminals/new cerberus type organisation who are trying to take over the council or something. thousands of years in the future of the trilogy
>your extremely inhospitable planet
Hmmm wonder what caused that...oh yeah they nuked themselves.
