1 because the opening sequence is better, and that's all I will get through because I can't read fucking martian.

2 is better in almost every way. Both are tedious as fuck though.

i absolutely love SMT1's atmosphere

that Archangels + Aleph cover by Kazuma Kaneko is fucking amazing so that makes it better by default

SMT1 has the better atmosphere and story, 2 has the better gameplay. Wish someone would hack the PS1/GBA releases though, they're a lot more user-friendly.

1 has a great opening

1 and let me tell you why.
In 1, you're just an orditary kid who lives with his single mom and your only real friends are your neighbour and your dog, Pascal. Soon after you meet some loser friends who get beat up and shit by bullies, demons invade and your whole life falls apart so in the future you have to learn how to fight in order to survive. In 2 you start out as experienced post apocalyptic gladiator and your biggest enemy is magnetite, but demons are mostly useless anyway so you don't really want to use them. In 1 you used to roll with a team of demons, always fusing them to make them more powerful and to test their new abilities. In 2 you just grind for your mc and femc and use demons only for boss battles and only if you can't AUTO them (most bosses can be AUTO'd, presenting you with no real challenge). While in 1 the fate of humanity is indecisive, that made it worth to fight. In 2 you just do errands around your hometown and get used by your bosses like in Vampire the Masquerade. The worst thing about SMT2 besides the OP protagonist is the music which is basically downgraded OST from SMT1. In short, SMT2 exists just as a downgrade and to shit upon SMT1's legacy.

I really need to beat it. Got it on my phone when it first came out and while enjoyed it once I had to get into the overworld and tried to explore with touch controls I lost all effect to keep going.

Heard the SNES version of Megami Tensei got localized. How are they? And how do they differ from SMT?
