He was played mid for like half a year, back when Grip stunned and Kick silenced and Roll slowed. He was also completely broken and one of the most overpowered heroes in the game, bursting basically anything in a full combo.

that's a normal lane counter to melee heroes. It doesn't come up as much as Ursa or MK, but there are situations where you'd prefer to have an ES mid, especially in a "serious" drafting situation. ES is a flexible hero you can pick whenever you want in the draft and you can fill roles from 2 to 4 with.
It's niche, but if things go right it'll smash games. And like with Wisp, it's in part due to people discovering how broken the Aghs is.
