The only Blizzard games I played were Diablo 1, Diablo 2 and Starcraft, all of them were played years after release, and I played a little bit of Warcraft 3.
I have absolutely no attachment to Blizzard or any of their franchises, and with knowing a little bit of this background, I've never touched World of Warcraft at any time. Around the time of its release, I played a lot of Everquest and Star Wars Galaxies, both games I enjoyed a lot and wish the emulated servers were actually worth a shit.
You might think I'd enjoy it now that there's this "Classic WoW", get to see the game in its glory days, but I will not. If anything, I'm hoping you all play for a week and get seriously disappointed.

The magic is created from the players and how they interact with that world. Nothing gets your dick more hard than getting that piece of loot or scraping out of a pvp fight you were the underdog in. The gameplay or concept was nothing special at the time and the loop wasn't any more fresh than it was now so all that magic is still there.

Because of layering. One of the things I liked about Classic, TBC and Wrath was that your server was your server. If you and your friend picked the same realm, you could always run to where they were and find them in the world. It felt real. Layering shits all over that and I don't give a fuck if it means I have to wait for quest mobs to respawn. I miss seeing raids on the capital cities. Its all dead now. And its not coming back with.. this.

I am planning on playing it. Vanilla WoW, even with its flaws, is the single greatest themepark MMO of all time. Even TBC detracted from the game significantly by focusing on raids over leveling.

Phase 2 is gonna be such a fucking shitshow. They already said that medium population is the same as the biggest realms back in the day, meaning those high or full pop realms definitely have around 10k player caps. With layering they can make it feel like "vanilla", but I'm not seeing 70% player retention by phase 2. Just so you know, player cap was 3k back in 2005 and the world is balanced around it. Will world bosses spawn faster? Are black lotuses more frequent? Can the realm handle BRM clashes when there are 40 guilds going to molten core at the same time?

I remember on nost the sweet spot for server pop was around 4-6k
above 8k competition for quest mobs started showing and by 10k it was close to impossible to level at a decent rate thanks to even non-quest mobs being flooded to hell and back by players

It's baffling that they're banking on 70% of each server quitting by phase 2 for their plan to work.

Short answer: Yes and no.

Long answer: It depends on the type of PvP and the phase of the game. Early on, when people don't deal that much damage, you can do well in 1v1. Your kill speed in general is slow, but you can outlast most classes (exception to this are locks and spriests which hard counter you unless you run a shadow resist set and resist pots). But once people gear up, it takes you longer and longer to kill them, while your heals aren't quite as effective against their increased burst. You still fare ok in 1v1, especially in wpvp where you can pick your targets with stealth, and can relatively easily run away.

For group pvp, you're very mediocre with one exception (WSG). Your slow kill speed strategy simply doesn't help much in group pvp, where you need to be bursting people down. You lack CCs, interrupts. As a healer, you're fairly ineffective because your heals are either slow (HT, rejuv) or drain your mana in a second (regrowth). In WSG you're good at carrying the flag, and you get taken to AB premades because otherwise they lose their WSG flag carrier.

No. That only helps if your next character (which I assume you want to main) is a warrior, and by the time you leveled him to 60 all the spots will be taken by warriors that actually have friends who helped them since the start.

Or Mage, in case you change your mind halfway. That way, you still have a character with a class worth having in end-game content.

I don't plan on having a warrior as I'm more a DPS drone. If I raid I'll likely make my second char a rogue, and since they're relatively difficult to level at certain points it might be beneficial to have a hunter to ease the gear grind.

Having a hard time deciding between undead priest and tauren shaman. I know priest is probably better overall and i love UD. But i love tauren shamans aesthetics too, plus i think their versatility in leveling is more interesting.
