Last I remember there's still people modding NHL 2004 to this day. There's also some group modding the last 2K hockey game on the Wii. I was always a big fan of the NHL Hitz series back in like 2005.

I haven't really touched much of the modern NHL games, I bought NHL 17 because they added my local ECHL team, but never got hooked enough to bother with 18 or 19.

I did play some indie hockey game called Old Time Hockey since it had an interesting premise, but the gameplay and controls were pretty subpar. At least I got to injure an entire team to make them forfeit the game, that was fun.

The last Madden I remember having a great time with was 2010.

Modern sport games are really RPG/simulation hybrids. players have stacks of ability scores that can be improved over time in career modes, you can build a very customised team and the physics that recreate the game are often impressively precise and close to the real sport.
Of course, the major caveat is that you probably want to enjoy the sport in the first place.

the financial side of things (yearly releases and fucked microtranscations) are extremely bad but generally the base game and gameplay is quite impressively designed. I play Fifa career mode every year and never touch ultimate team because its a gambling nightmare.

MyCareer was the shit man.

But explain the draw of those other modes. I never checked them out. I just did mycareer and multiplayer.

My Gm has you playing as a general manager of any team you like. You can customize the team down to the arena/jerseys/city/ticket prices etc. It plays like Mycareer but instead of a player you take the role of an executive trying to deal with the media,managing player egos, and ownership demands. The main goal is to find a sweet spot to consistently win and eventually buy the team from the owner. You can take over your team at any point and play them just like you would in any other mode. I like starting out with a really bad team and rebuilding by trading for picks and scouting the right players to draft. It’s insanely in-depth.

Myleague is similar but you don’t play as a Gm. It’s just a mode that features most of the above but you can control every aspect of the league. Almost like a godmode to let your imagination run wild on how you want the nba to be like (there’s even rule changes that you can apply league wide like 45 second shot clocks)

MyGM sounds pretty sick actually. As long as you're actually playing the game, and it's not just pure sim, I'm into it.

Can you break it? That was my favorite part of MyCareer, was getting my character to the point where he was SuperJordan. Dunking on literally anyone, so fast he can cherrypick on every play, winning every championship and MVP with ease, etc.

You can easily break it. Especially in my league where you can just create custom draft classes. You can even edit the stats and attributes of all players and executives. It’s fun to create a legends draft too.

Might have to check it out. It doesn't require servers or anything right? The most recent one I have is 2K16, so the servers are dead.

He's an overall good player that can score, is good on defense, and is a good rebounder. He is very tall and big so he poses a big threat on the court. More emphasis on the game inside the three point line. Driving and post play was nerfed so fucking hard from 2k18 to 19 that you could miss a layup even if you had all the right badges and greened it.
