PCB is one of my favorites for it's incredibly simple yet effective and easy to grasp gimmick and has some of my favorite fights in the series.

Core is the same, the difference is on the things mentioned. It also helps that the settings are often very different from each other, making each game feel like its own special journey.

For example, take scoring in HSiFS vs UFO. Mastering optimal releases adds an entire dimension to the game while increasing your survival, while UFO scoring feels awful since all you're doing is taking risks and giving up huge amounts of resources for points that don't have any effect on gameplay.

A single drunk Jap makes all the games by himself. Japs are the ones who love the games the most, hosting two ComicCon sized events just to share custom made merchandise with each other. It's sorta like how Godzilla is more popular in Japan, if Godzilla was a potato faced porcelain doll looking girl wearing a frilly dress and a funny hat who shoots fireworks.

Touhou is a long series of self published shmups, fighting games, and mangas which chronicle the adventures of Reimu and Marisa. They live in a magical land called Gensokyo which was sealed off from the outside world by youkai, which are basically creatures of myth and folklore. The idea of mythological creatures being figments of our imagination is taken to an extreme and they physically exist as long as people believe in them. Gensokyo was created in modern times when belief in the supernatural was fading to seal off a human population that would continue to believe in youkai. These youkai can be weak or powerful and to stop the strong ones from tearing each other apart, spellcard rules were created to solve disputes. If you want to fight, you fight with shiny magical bullets fired in pretty patterns. The job of keeping youkai in line is entrusted to a few humans who live outside the human society of Gensokyo, usually Reimu and Marisa. However, they seem to spend most of their time drinking with the youkai rather than policing them.

Why does Reimu hate the moon?

The characters live in this valley in Japan called Gensokyo, which has a barrier that keeps the outside world out. The idea is that this place exists so supernatural creatures like vampires and mermaids won't go extinct.

The main character needs to keep the delicate balance between the many factions that live in this place (which includes humans).

Every once in a while one of the factions does something stupid like trying to block the sun or steal the moon, forcing her to go on a rampage where she shoots the fuck out of everything on her path until she gets to the final boss.

It's just the way to live there. You shoot your friends and they invite you to a rad as fuck tea party afterwards. Pic very related.

Orin, my SA runs always go to shit the second I reach her. I remember absolutely wrecking her one time and I haven't been able to do it again, she always leaves me half-dead and after that there's an 80% chance I get blasted by Okuu.

I had that same problem. If your keyboard is like mine, certain key combos would let you use more than 3 keys. I used a key remapping program to make my X, C, and V keys act as Z, X ,C keys. Try messing around with combos on a key ghosting testing site to find one that lets you hold enough keys. Sure as hell beats using a gamepad.

Marisa. To the day I still have trouble dealing with her massive barrage of stars. Compared to her, fighting Reimu is a piece of cake.

Not him but I've been using a gamepad for the longest time and it feels fine to me. I usually go for the analog stick and switch to the d-pad when I need to be really precise. More like Reimu has an incredibly honest personality and despite youkai extermination being her job, she treats humans, youkai and gods as equals. It especially makes strong youkai like her, as well as oni like Suika who like honesty.

you should check out some of ido's other games. They've done enough of them that their last game before HSoB was a StB clone with just their OCs. Also wanwan is a very talented composer.
