Capcom aren't really known for balance. GU had a set that literally powers anything you slot and if you have a good charm, every set can be made with just Neset, which made everyone run the usual WE, Crit boost, Expert, challenger skills. Before that, we have 4U in general with CB and IG, and then 3U with the most garbage GL in the series

Astalos is definitely the coolest because lightning monsters are always the coolest

I've been trying to fight at nergi without item buffs or mantles and I think the fight is actually just bullshit. I've gotten to the second part of the fight but I've never broken any of his spikes and I just have to run away and wait for the divebomb like half the fight, and spend the other half healing

Definitely get it, being able to ignore or delay chip damage is a must, especially with dumb shit like Vaal or Luna.

I've done both and Super boltreaver is both a more entertaining fight and harder to get right.

The fight itself is fantastic and very rewarding once you actually learn how the deviant's mechanics work.

You see the monster has followup attacks which will zap any shitters stuck during the adept run or valor recovery. And some multihit attacks that will fuck you over if you try to valor at a bad spot.
It's all to punish retards thinking that being adept or valor will save them. As always positioning matters.
This is one of the end all be all challenges of the game.
It has thunder element attacks. Meta sets in GU tend to involve Rath, Jho, and cenataur parts which means that you will have negative thunder res.
If you go in with poor knowledge of the monster while metafagging you will get put down easy.

That said, I've never encountered an attack that I can block with G4 or 5 that I can't with G3 on GL. I usually stick with Guard 1, though.

The DLC Valfalk is one of the more fun EX I've fought. Easily better than ATs, because the base fight was already good without neccessitating defensive skills.

Even the placement and disposition of the eyes is quite different.

Anjanath on the other hand does really feel like a land Rathalos to me.

i honestly want to argue that Mizu and Raizex are cooler than Glavenus, but I always remember the cool fucking moments of striking his tail mid-attack, and getting thos fucking AWESOME tail break staggers, and nothing can compare. Every weapon with a shield has a built in level of guard. SnS and a HBG shield mod starts with Guard 1, CB and GS block starts with Guard 2, and the Lances start with Guard 3. Guard 3 is the cap for knockback, Guard 5 is the cap for chip damage, and going over just reduce stamina used for blocking.

Turns out that for his roar guard 5 reduces knockback for the GL, but guard 4 does not. So I don't think guard 3 is the cap at all. 3 is however very easy to achieve, so it's still more preferable.

Why do certain monsters flinch when their attacks are guarded? I recall Kirin getting stunned when blocking its horn attack with my Lance, and maybe one other monster does this too? Is there a certain criteria to meet for this to happen?

It hurts. Its by far the most skill-hungry weapon in the entire fucking game and even with a perfected cheesy as fuck setup it still feels weaker than most other weapons.

the input could be during Charged Shell press evade+direction. It does small I-frames, a hop, and the option to do a reduced slam. Dodging during Wyvernfire triggers the full damage like Blast-Dash. It would still be worthless, just something for fun, maybe even have a L1 input midair with the Wyvernfire to clutch and hit the monster with a quick wyvernfire

Have you played previous games? The large forward double hops are a godsend compared to how it used to be. You can hop after anything now instead of just pokes and charged shells and even FULL quick reload after anything too. GL got huge buffs in World. That being said, it would be cool if blast dash from GU was incorporated into the full move-set. My idea for how to impllement this would be like this: activate WF and then press triangle+circle together while it's charging to point it backwards and go into blast dash. You could go into this very quickly. This would use your WF but the cool down would be much, much shorter than usual.

If it was anything like the beta for base MHW, the stats on the beta equipment isn't relevant and were modified for demo purposes. Melee weapons had the same sharpness patterns and the guns loaded all ammo. However deco slots on upgraded mantles was a new thing and it revealed the existence of Lv4 deco slots, although they only used older decorations.

Apparently the first tier of MR armour has 150 defense compared to the 92 defense of fully upgraded HR armour, but the skills on the sets aren’t as good. So early MR you can focus on making new stuff for the raw damage reduction or you can use your old stuff for the good skills and just not get hit, but apparently they designed Barioth to be the wall for players who don’t upgrade to MR equipment. He’s the first MR3 monster so MR1 and MR2 you can get by with late HR gear but beyond that all your HR stuff is completely obsoleted and has fuck all defense.

Of course you don't fucking "need" it, but then the weapon is going to suck to use compared to other weapons that function fine right off the box without the need to invest so many skills in it. That's the point. Most of this shit is not even meta compared to just QoL. If you wanted a fucking meta build you'd just discard every skill except attack and then just slap the monster over the head repeatedly with the Jho dildo lance.

To be fair, the starter MR armor seems to have more level 4 slots than expected. But of course, we'll have to farm up good level 4 jewels too anyway.

It really doesn't though. Like EE for example. Learn to sheath. GL is not the only slow as fuck weapon and sheathing is a core part of MH no matter what weapon you're using. The forward hops can close small gaps fine but sheath and sprint when the monster gets too far away. Guard isn't super necessary either. Your shield is certainly not a "dead weight" without it. I think GL actually has the strongest guard "out of the box" (though maybe Lance is equal). Capacity up is only useful for normal lances and focus for long. Fullbursting with a normal GL without capacity boost is still strong though as long as you have artillery and it's shelling level is good. Shelling does eat sharpness but there are plenty of other weapons that chew sharpness quickly as well. I understand that you need more skills to improve your shelling but its really not that bad.

Normal is actually the only shelling type where you can get away with not running Capacity Boost. No self-respecting person who wants to actually use the gun part will pass up on it for wide and long; two shells is criminally low. EE is recommended because it allows you to avoid using the shield and start side-stepping or back-hopping away from attacks.

You can full quick reload after anything. Running out of shells is the last thing you ever have to worry about in World. Capicity boost is just for that sixth shell on your normal fullburst. I've used EE before and if anything it causes bad habits. It's nice to have but not needed.

The charges are pretty nasty, but he usually only does them when his current target is to far to just swing at. He’d definitely fuck over group hunts since there wouldn’t be a consistent aggro mechanic to keep him on the biggest threat.
