Why does Fallout 2 have so many shitty fourth wall breaks? I hate fourth wall breaks in general, but FO2 cranks it up to 11. I can't even finish the fucking game because there are so many of them and each and every one makes me cringe through my skull.

Attached: Y5zEdQV(1).png (398x202, 86K)

west nerds got really obsessed with pop culture for some reason

Try not being autistic.

That's why FO1 is the crpg of the elite

then dont play it sperg

What does FO2 do better than FO1 if anything? I haven't played either of them but I'd like to try.

Amount of content, most everything else is subjective.

its WAY bigger and show a real evolution of the area after fallout 1.
well, not everyone boil with rage at fourth wall stuff.

if you understand the reference it also help.

cringe

Yes, Fallout 2's constant barrage of shitty jokes makes it impossible to finish the game without cringing.

more useful skills

haha dude do you remember monty python haha look a giant dinosaur footprint! how did that get there pahaha!

skills, quests, Companion AI is 10x better in 2 and interacting with them, more weapons, and New Reno is like the Hub but better.

SPECIAL actually works, even though Endurance still sucks, it gets more use than FO1 still. Charisma is the one that gets fixed most, in that it's actually helpful, both in talking to characters and recruiting NPCs

NPCs are a HUGE help in FO2. Sulik with power armor and a super sledge is 10/10 (if his level doesn't glitch him out and make him have like 5 action points)

It’s a video game, it knows it’s a video game. It’s not pretending to be a piece of high art or some immersive lifestyle game.

It’s just a fun game, and it knows that.

>Why does Fallout 2 have so many shitty fourth wall breaks?
Chris Avellone

>sheer amount of content
>better balanced mechanically
>SPECIAL works the way it was intended now
>Companions aren't just dead weight
>far more equipment available
Simply from a pure gameplay standpoint, FO2 is a massive improvement over 1.

Why are fourth wall jokes bad? I mean as long as you don't go full pic related where it's the only type of joke you have going for you, it's just another style of humor.

And from a writing stand point, Fallout 2 is better than Fallout 1.

Broken Hills alone is more complex and better written than any portion of Fallout 1.

I don't mind levity or comedy. I do mind fourth wall breaks and pop culture references. In all fairness it wasn't as overplayed and annoying in 1998, but in 2019 4th wall breaks and references to other pop culture are almost everywhere in pop culture and that can bring down enjoyment of older things when you factor in hindsight.

Fallout 2 was a clusterfuck of pop culture references. It was awful.

What was the pop cultural reference that bothered you soooooo much? Doctor Who? Blues Brothers? You fags haven't even seen Blues Brothers, so why would it bother you?

Referencing classic movies and quality shows != the modern day of referencing Rick & Morty

And like I said, Broken Hills alone is more complex and better written than any portion of Fallout 1.

It's most the 4th wall breaks that bother me, the pop culture references aren't quite as intrusive.

Which ones specifically? The line about the censored European version is unironically based.

And if it's something like the OP: Clicking characters non stop like a Blizzard RTS should result in something funny said

Because why not? Game studios back then weren’t this bastion of professionalism people seem to imprint on them.

I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE

The ones that characters explicitly refer to themselves as NPCs and the ones that make commentary on Fallout 2 and its production. But the one in which a black sprite says he was supposed to be them main character in Fallout 1 was easily the worst in the game.

>go down a well and find caps
>your character starts quoting the fucking goonies
there should be a mod that excises this shit

lmao this nigger has been reading the wiki for shit to complain about instead of playing the actual game

What's wrong with The Goonies?

nothing but quoting it in fallout 2 is fucking stupid

Why?

because it comes out of absolutely nowhere and does not fit the game's tone

>References have to be built up to!

In The Simpsons, homer gets on a vibrating chair and sees the colors/space from 2001

It's there to make you laugh and smile, user. Did you even watch the Goonies?

It's fine to be immersed in a game, but you'll always know it's a game on some level and that level leaves room for jokes at times.

it's funny in the simpsons because the simpsons is a funny comedy show

I need to play 2

1 was absolutely fantastic and the fallout experience peaked when the first versions of fallout online appeared, it was a genuine wasteland experience with base raids and everything, then they started applying rules and other gay shit

The lawlessness and the lack of rules made it absolutely amazing

2 is post post-apocalyptic. The world ended, we were in the shithole era before, now humanity is back on its feet and is in more of a "what's next?" phase. The answer is mainly pre-industrial mercantile society.

because the writers were fucking retarded hacks who ruined what could have been the best video game of all time

god this sperging out about Fallout 2 and references just reminds me how the people who go on Yea Forums are literal pea-brain troglodytes. Fallout 1 fucking has a Pulp Fiction reference in the first 5 minutes. I fucking hate you all

Attached: 053117-patrick-bateman-skincare-lead.jpg (640x768, 83K)

And the only reason Fallout 1 doesn't have many references in the first place is that it's a thin and underwritten game

Because breaking the fourth wall is usually really fucking lazy type humor and it caught on like a forest fire in the mid 2010's
That's what I really like the most about Fallout 2, the setting is somewhat much more hopeful that the previous game by a long shot and it's rarely used in most media

>That's what I really like the most about Fallout 2, the setting is somewhat much more hopeful that the previous game by a long shot and it's rarely used in most media
It's not THAT rare. I mean Big O of all things is post post-apocalyptic.

I missed the fact that i could either burst in the front guns blazing or sleep with the wife/daughter and then mine the ever loving shit out of the door.

I think I know what you're talking about, but... what?

>complaining about easter egg encounters

They set the tone right from the start by the end of the temple of trials when you talked mad shit to the guardian and then helped out your shroom tripping uncle refill his stash.

>games tone
The only Fallout games with dark tones are 1 and bizarrely New Vegas. Every other one was super goofy.

Fallout 2 is a dark comedy

In New Reno if you decide to end the mob bosses , all of them can either be taken out directly or secretly. One of them has a wife to daughter you can smash. Once you do you have an opportunity to steal shit and then lure the boss and his bodyguards into a trap or just pop your head in the door and burst mode people into giblets.

This is versus working to earn his trust or taking him on when they are more prepared and has a better angle of attack.

It was one of the first games to do it.

bugfixes
better world, worse story

So dumb fuck meta humor games like undertale ruin fallout 1 for you? Damn. It hurts to be you.

Attached: 1566082390002.png (560x560, 214K)

i barely came across any of them

luck affects it plus that one perk. You need like Luck 7 to see all the easter eggs

>But the one in which a black sprite says he was supposed to be them main character in Fallout 1 was easily the worst in the game.
Holy shit that was the joke you retard

Have you tried not being an autistic faggot?

MY GARDEN IS WELL, HOW IS YOURS
GRAMPY BONE!!!
>Broken Hills alone is more complex and better written than any portion of Fallout 1.
Yes, getting anally raped by a giant green-skinned super mutant and wearing a gimp suit really is amazing writing.

Fallout 1 is so short it's almost like a prologue chapter. 2 is the real game, very long, with many towns and quest chains.

ITT: full blown autism

>zoomers having autism fits because an old game has old references aimed at the games fan base when it was released years ago
Everytime
Why you even play old games you are mentally incapable of enjoying them.

>Yes, getting anally raped by a giant green-skinned super mutant and wearing a gimp suit really is amazing writing.

That was fucking hilarious and it's made even funnier due to the fact that other characters will reference "big ole Francis" after it happens.

F1 feels tight and structured. F2 feels wacky and all over. F2 does everything technically better but you won't have a good time with it

Literally ass mad
It's literally portal 1 vs portal 2
One is a better experience because it's much more focused
The other is like 7 times as long

>but you won't have a good time with it
I had a good time with it, except San Francisco.

Epic.

you'll appreciate meta humor more when you've grown up and found out that every story and plot is basically the same journey with different decorations.

A fucking assload of games back then were like that.
It's what makes me laugh when people complain about bordermemes. It used to be so much fucking worse.

To be fair the game came out before harry potter. So...

Also has magic the gathering references (Tragic the Garnering quest)

you know what? I didn't finish FO2 for the exact same reason.I played FO1 seriously like a simulationist RPG , and FO2 was the biggest let down, with all the kung-fu fighting chinatown gangs and all that shitty "humour"
