2004
2007 was a false hope

The year before your favorite one came out.

I remember Halo coming out on xbox and thinking "heh yeah right, who the hell would want to play an FPS via thumbsticks?"
Who's laughing now? Not fucking me.

Halo is overrated.

Cs 1.6/q3 arena days so '99-'00.

2007

HL mods (NeoTokyo, Dystopia) and TF2 were great

mw2

Gameplay peaked in '99 with Q3A.
Atmosphere peaked in '07 with Stalker.

whatever year makes me look like an elite gamer so something in the 90s. Also I haven't played an fps game in 10 years and the games I pretend to like have 20 active players
:)

Not anymore it's not.

Whatever year Stalker came out.
Metro was great too.

I remember it being literally impossible to talk about here. People got very upset about it for years.

I'm going to offer a hot take here and say 2016.

Doom and Titanfall 2 came out that year and they're both next to flawless shooters in what they try to do.

1996
Quake release year

A bold stance.

1999

When socom was still around

Socom is a TPS

The year the original DOOM released.

1997 with blood

Wow, what game is this? I'm interested in finally playing a good guy.

'96, with a slight decline in quality till Swat 4 and then a massive fucking dip after. It's only now being brought back up to speed.

Tribes and Tribes 2 will probably always be the time I had the most fun playing competitive FPS. The high mobility, large scale thing was pretty novel at the time the first game came out. I also played a lot of UT, Q3A, and CS around that time. I really think that was probably the golden age for the genre.

Single handedly destroyed the genre though
Much like SC 2 killed RTS games by making them MP based and skimping on the SP

Nah, it reinvented the genre.

2007

cope qu*kefag

>cs ruined the genre
>halo ruined the genre
>cod4 ruined the genre
will you faggots ever.. just stop?

This but unironically.

No, WC3 killed RTS games, because it created DOTA, which created LOL, which killed RTS.
This is all true though. The quality was markedly lower every time.
I'd even argue that half life 2 ruined the genre for single player. CS really ruined it for multiplayer though.
UT'99 kinda brought it back but that was it.
Q3A was always better duel tho.

2052 when they were replaced by fourth person shooters.

Super Hot, it's the most innovate shooter I've played in years!

Halo literally has the best balanced combat of any game I've ever played. The OP shit is still easily beaten if you're just better, and it doesn't fall victim to flashlight tag like every other FPS on the market has.

Youre so obnoxious

When I played UT in a clan...like 1999? If you think otherwise than you probably molest sheep.

Titanfall 2 is an absurdly flawed game with still manages to be good somehow.

2016

the year that Titanfall 2 came out

the year tarkov fully releases

Crysis was like the retarded summer blockbuster with great effects that everyone talked about for a month but no one wanted to watch a second time or buy on DVD/BR later.

1993
/topic

Probably 1997. Possibly 1998 or 1999.

>Terribly balanced weapons/skills
>Paper health
>One of the worst scoring systems in any game, ever
>OHK Melee from front
>Low risk/High Reward Titan mechanics

Don't get me wrong, it's good, but no way it's the best thing in the genre.

>nooooo [your favorite fps type] ruined everything!!!1
You have no idea how much tacticool fps player suffer.
