I’m going to be honest, I don’t get this complaint. People complain that bandana dee only does useless roles, but also complain that he takes other people’s roles. Are people trying to say that they want other characters to do useless roles or that the character’s roles he has taken are just as useless but are somehow more deserving. Sorry, if that sounded rude, but I hear this shit a lot. I don’t think any character is useless. I hope bandana dee gets a better role in the future and that magolor, gooey, and ado are used more, too.

I don't know about others, but I've never said Bandana Dee was always useless. In fact, I'd argue he has a good reason to be a character in Return to Dreamland... but rarely since.
I think Bandana Dee's biggest problem is his his identity crisis. He used to be a Dedede loyalist, then became an aspiring warrior to prove his strength, then... he throws Kirby food items? What kind of progression is that?
Sure, Adeleine may not be optimal always throwing you items, but she's physically weak in battle so it makes sense for her to to do so on your 64-bit journey. Bandana Dee gains absolutely nothing as a character from stealing her role. It's like they tacked him on to cut corners.

It's not like that's entirely wrong. The anime made him that way since Sakurai didn't want him to talk, and since there's never been any official word on Kirby's age or intelligence outside of that people tend to just interpret him that way.

He does seem older to me, particularly in the pre-anime games, but it's not like there's a way to prove it.

What if in triple deluxe, they instead used him like a mixture between ttyd luigi and 64 waddle dee, where he would go on his own little goofy adventure trying to save dedede which could be shown in little lines of dialogue or cutscenes and he could make an entrance for kirby to get in somewhere, or maybe even bring back the sliding sections.

Well the most recent game was star allies and none one other than Hyness and friends had any character there, Bandana and all the dream friends were nothing more than some glorified cameo, heck Dedede and Meta Knight stopped being relevant after their fight, hopefully the next one does better at that

This actually would've been incredibly fun. Maybe instead of Dedede Tour, Bandana Dee was the extra star and went through entirely original level design and bosses to achieve an alternate goal at the top of Floralia.

Some of the characters have really neat profiles when you play guest star as them.
My favorite is Taranza, who seeks out the hearts to see if he can revive Sectonia, even if he knows he probably won't be able to.

I argue even hyness and the mage sisters had the same problem in the main story, because they were literally cast aside after they were freed from void, we never got a conclusion to their story until months later with heroes in another dimension. Two more things, why did pon and con join their cult and why wasn’t void a dream friend? Void was alluded to reborn as a friend and it would have been so cool to play as him, I just want a happy ending for void.

I think for the extra mode should still be about dedede, maybe have the player switch between dedede and bandana dee using the x button for dedede tour, considering that the x button is useless in dedede tour, since that’s the button you use to drop abilities, and you can’t even use abilities in dedede tour.

I think Dedede would be too traumatized to make his former captor be his right-hand man unless Taranza forced him to.

I wouldn’t work the best this way because the anime was a slice of life that never really tried to represent any one game, you can’t really argue that it tried to represent adventure because it had stuff like the animal friends and the halberd, and nightmare in the games (or really just adventure since he never appeared in anything else outside of cameos) and the anime are completely different.

Maybe not a direct adaptation of the stories, but something based on them would be pretty nice.

Gooey probably should have used them because his moveset did feel a little simple outside of the dark matter abilities. Cleaning should have used more cleaning products instead of them.

Honestly, I think this and the 25th anniversary version were only only rearranges to do Zero-Two justice. I think it’s because everybody always forgets the drums and bassline, despite them being more important than the melody in Zero-Two’s theme, heck both Zero-Two and Masked Dedede to a certain extent

Yeah, there are just some songs that only one or two remixes really "get" them. I feel the same way about Dark Castle (only 1-2 remixes I truly like and the better version of one of those requires digging through comments on a deviantart picture) and Miracle Matter (most remixes emphasize certain elements while also dropping others: it's always a pleasant surprise when people keep the "didgeridoo" during the part before the loop).
I did find this excellent Hyper Zone 2/Vs Zero Two remix though. The piano part during Zero's segment is pure sex.

No true fan wants the anime to merge with the games. It almost happened once and it took a lot of the charm away. We're lucky that the team at Hal decided to go through with that SS remake. It brought the games world back into focus. Anime Dedede is kind of a meme too. He It's like saying you're a Waluigi fan, but only like when he says WA. The Anime is closer to a parody than anything. Nothing from it should come into contact with the game series. People can appreciate it all they want. Escargoon would just take away from characters like Bandana Dee. The Kirby world doesn't need those OCs.

A lot that came from the anime also made it into the games. Although if we're specifically talking about anime characters, they have also made cameo appearances once. Also they are still HAL's property, so they're much of a Kirby character then the rest of the cast are.

At least the SA remix did something really cool by having the Ripple Star theme burst in at end that really makes you think of Ribbon. I'm no music expert but nothing seems to come close to topping that DS midi of Masked Dedede, It's just got the perfect highs and lows and despite being super spastic just flows really nicely. The TD remix sounds nice but it sounds like it got hit by a tranq in comparison

I hope Gooey can stick around more. The most recent Kirby novel is based around Dream Land 2, and despite barely being in that game at all, Gooey gets more love on the cover than Rick, Kine, and Coo.
Granted, BWD and MK are also there for some reason, but they're main characters in the novels so you can't really kick them out

Okay, but it would still be interesting if they occasionally actually used these characters in interesting ways. They can still make new characters, nobody wants an entire game of no new characters unless it were a remake.

Triple Deluxe had Dedede versus Dark Meta Knight, a hero and a villain who have never met

Robobot had Meta Knight versus Dark Matter Sword, again, a hero and a villain who have never met

Considering HAL's comments, I think the next game will have Bandana Waddle Dee versus Nightmare, as they have never met, and Bandana Dee still needs his mode, and Nightmare is the only classic villain to not have a modern cameo/boss fight

Nightmare probably will be connected to the next main villain, considering the whole "Nightmare of a galactic crisis" referenced in Star Allies that received no elaboration in spite of all the extra lore afterwards.

They don't need to be in every game, but they don't need to be back into the broom closet either.
And Kirby did have a consistent cast, depending on the director. Gooey, Rick, Coo and Kine were mainstays in Shimomura's games with Dream Land 3 introducing Ado/Adeleine (Chu, Nago and Pitch only cameo'd in 64). Sakurai's games put more emphasis on the mooks as friends, but also featured Meta Knight. Dedede is the only constant.
Dedede really only acts like his anime counterpart in Battle Royale, and even then he's still a direct main threat.
RtDL is because the game was sparse on plot until the end and the sacrifices made for the King to be playable in a quick fashion. Even then, the plot starts with him and BD chasing Kirby for his cake.
As for the model, my guess is that they were trying to emulate the GC/Brawl Dedede model, since that's what it reminds me of the most. The 3DS games, by contrast, seemed to base themselves more off his old sprites and made him more "duck-like".

Make nightmare come back in a halloween themed game and have him turn bandana dee into a monstrous version of himself that we fight.

It did worse than Triple Deluxe, which did worse than Return to Dreamland. That said, it's a fan favorite.

It's based on DL2 in a loose fashion (Rainbow Islands get focus, Rick, Coo, Kine and Gooey show up, etc).
It's not a direct novelization of DL2 like the more recent books were.

Why isn’t there a general?

He still has his violent tendency in Fighter Deluxe and in Blowout Blast. Even when he joined forces with Kirby in Triple Deluxe, there was a clear threat that he acknowledged that needed to be dealt with. Compared that to Return to Dreamland where he just joins with Kirby with no particular reason or without any issue. Hell even fucking Epic Yarn got this right with Dedede. Even when anime Dedede is more violent than his game personality, at least he doesn't want to outright kill Kirby as the series progressed and see's him as his own archrival.

Based on interviews, supplementry material and descriptions, it's not that far off from what is said/shown about the characters in the games.

Fighters Deluxe doesn't really have much of a plot to begin with and Blowout Blast is practically a remake of Kirby's Dream Land.
Also in all of the cases you described, Dedede is not playable from the get-go.
That said, they probably could have shown him being more reluctant and maybe it's only when BD agrees to help that he relents (a bit like Kirby 64 and how he was kinda hesitant in the cutscene where he joins).

I don't think that even matters when all I'm discussing about is Dedede's mannerism, him attacking Kirby for no other reason other than that he can, and that he is reluctant in joining forces with him unless the situation is dire. Fighter Deluxe has him mistreating the power of the Fountain of Dreams in order to beat Kirby, and Blowout Blast, while it is a callback to the very first game, is still a new ploy for him to use the power of the Sparkling Stars to beat him. It was overkill and pretty hardcore considering that he grew giant and had every intention to crush him with that power. Those games still has his personality that the anime had before, sometimes even going overboard.

At least make the cause of him joining you make sense like say pieces of Magolor's ship hitting parts of his castle, also Meta Knight's base, and them going to the crash to investigate. Say what you will about Star Allies, but at least there was a setup to Dedede that properly introduced him into a playable role by showing the cause and the aftermath about why he needs to join your adventure.

I thought I remember seeing Adeleine support around Smash 4, but I might've just been misremembering.

I think the main difference between the two are that Anime Dedede has more bark than bite and relys on ordering monsters, whereas Game Dedede is more competent and seems to have more respect for Kirby.

At least Gooey got a trophy in Melee. Dark Matter itself hasn't had any trophies and prior to Ultimate, the only acknowledgement it got was Zero Two's remix. Spirit power-wank can only carry you so far.
Meanwhile Nightmare is an assist trophy (not a good one, mind you, but still) and Marx is not only a boss, but has people rallying for him to be playable.

Not him, but Dark Matter actually gets decent acknowledgement in the series, like appearing in the Kirby Quest sub-game in Mass Attack. Robobot was the first time it showed up in 3D and showed up in a platformer/mainline game since Dream Land2/3. Nebula and the Master Crown are connected, but not the same character.
Zero's the one that HAL beat around the bush with acknowledging, to the point where he didn't even get a keychain in TD, despite the Boss Butch title screen being one. It took until SA for Zero to be acknowledged and HAL made the Void connections just vague enough that people believe him to be Zero's ancestor/maker rather than Zero outright (not that it matters since more people focus on Void's connection to Kirby).

The first half of the novel he doesn’t speak because he was choking on a miracle fruit but after that, he actually talks a lot more than I was expecting, also he doesn’t have any impediment or huge quirks in his speech. His main crux is that he won’t let Kirby get hurt under his watch not counting knocking Kirby out completely in 2 seperate occasions while attempting to save him the villain uses this crux to her advantage at the end, she continually attacks Kirby with her puppet minions to bait Gooey into defending them and with Gooey thoroughly distracted, she was able to complete her mission

Dedede likes Adeleine. She's an earnest and mellow kind of friendly. She has people skills and a basic sense of kindness that Dedede lacks, and she's very kind to him despite his rough disposition, so she would be a naturally comforting character for the cranky king.

I think it's better that she's the one calm enough not to give him a hard time, but instead she tries to empathize with him and see what makes him him. She is a human after all, and an artist too, so having a considerate and down-to-earth perspective is more fun than Tiff-lite. Especially since the world around her is still so cartoony and weird.

Also one of the manga for DL3 used the 64 design for her before that game came out if I recall. I've always been in the "they're the same person" camp back then. It was when I first noticed that Adeleine was spelt as アドレーヌ or "Adorēnu" and I realized that "Ado" was simply a shortened form of it.

Dedede unknowingly feeds into Taranza's destructive method of moving on with his life by being encouraged by his impish disposition. They scheme together when they see opportunities or get hairbrained idea and they stick together and get out of trouble together. Taranza is a sneaky, cunning fella and Dedede can be an arrogant brute, so they have a natural partners-in-crime dynamic.

Adeleine meets every new person and event with curiosity and a warm heart. She enjoys spending time with Kirby and friends in Dream Land, but she lives in another corner of Pop Star in Cloudy Park. The enigmatic Adeleine does not avoid other people’s company, she'll gleefully join her friends on adventures when things get interesting and she'll turn up to meet the friends she's grown fond of, but she doesn't mind traveling alone. Adeleine loves to go wandering the world . Dedede may be quick to admire Adeleine, the free-spirited, thoughtful, and warm artist. Dedede, however, loves being seen as the greatest of all, and he will do anything to try and prove his superiority. He craves respect and recognition. Dedede is also exceedingly immature, prone to throwing temper tantrums and reacting irrationally to grievances. His behavior thus, at times, resembles that of a petulant child. However, at heart, Dedede is a caring being that forms deep sentimental attachments to people. Adeleine can see that in him, and that doesn't make him any less strong in her eyes. They are just two characters that admire and respect one another. I could see them having a strong bond if one of them wanted to commit to a real friendship, and I think they both would.

Someone fucked up and loaded both the hammer and axe, that doesn't happen in game
Otherwise the progression is fine, Masked Dedede's mask was based off Dark Mind, just slap it on him and give back spikes, then the rest matches Dark Matter possession but with Dark Mind
