I always blow up Megaton because the Wasteland is a cruel place and having residence in Tenpenny Tower will realistically give me the greatest odds of survival. It's clean, well-defended, in a remote area, and there's no fucking bomb in the middle.

Bethesda wrote the Enclave as incompetent evil buffoons. They wanted to purify the water but make it poisonous to everything that was mutated. However, everything had been mutated. They would have fucked up and committed indirect genocide on all remaining human populations in the Capital Wasteland.

The sidequests in New Vegas are incredibly shit, on the level of fallout 4. There are a few standout ones, but tit for tat even fallout 3 had better sidequests overall.

The "cringe writing" is debatable, but some of it certainly enters that territory (see veronica and the entirety of Old world blues)

I don't think anyone could disagree it was buggy as fuck on release, and if you are playing vanilla its still buggy today (for example, pimpboy 3000 "quest" and almost everything at gomorra is still game breaking levels of buggy)

The legion route is clearly unfinished, its sad to see as well because it had alot of potential. But even in interviews it was said by the writers that they didn't think people would want to side with slaving rapists *tips fedora* so they pretty much phoned it in.

It's terrible presentation, the very next thing you see in the town itself is one of the leaking pipes along the steps down to the bomb. It's not kicking you in the head to provide even a handful of examples of people suffering from lack of clean water when that's the entire focus of the main quest. It makes the main quest feel like a complete waste of time that's completely divorced from the rest of the game world. It's a pissing match between the BoS and Enclave for a worthless prize.

How old does a game have to be to be considered old? It's been almost a decade.

They were elites or tools of the elite, probably from families whose wealth mostly survived the bombs but not their influence. You can find a few other characters that are tied to or are pre war elites such as Desmond and Obidiah Blackhall in Point Lookout. There are still a lot of powerplays going on on an international level.

It's actually great presentation. It's the first impression of the outside world and first impressions are hard to shake off. NV by comparison has horrible presentation. It's extremely on the rails up until you finally find Benny. Before that you follow the easy paper trail to him. Then you're treated like a God by House. Then everyone else treats you like a God. Even though a couple of guys out matched you at the very beginning. The NV story structure is worse to the game mechanics than fallout 3 ever was.

That first impression is immediately countered by the leaking pipes in the town that are of no concern to its residents. The game's telling you that only the absolute poorest of the poor are affected by this supposed dire lack of clean water. The entire topic of clean water is then forgotten outside of the main quest. Also, bringing up NV in comparison is absolutely ridiculous. The two games actually have a very similar first act, a linear pursuit. The difference is that NV opens up once you deal with Benny while 3 stays the course and never offers you a single choice until the very end, that doesn't even come into effect until Broken Steel. Additionally, you're treated with respect because of your own actions in tracking down Benny and scaring him out of his own Casino, if not outright killing him there.

Also, clean water is the topic we're talking about right now and we both caught that that's what Beth was conveying. You can see what 3 was putting down it just wasn't up to a standard you wanted (which to me is just really more of nitpicking but much love to you either way). NV devs, while smart on the details, is changing the whole world and the devs already said they wanted to reset everything. They don't know how to world build.
