It's about people willingly entering in to bad deals with game developers/publishers, who scam their customers by assigning large value to digital items that they cannot own outside of the space the developers made. Unless you rip them yourself, you can't enjoy that 5* Saber's artwork on your own terms, and have to rely on fanart. Some of them it's entirely viable to never pay. Granblue lets you outright pick a character from the current banner if you save up 300 draws and that only takes a couple months to do as f2p. You can also pay the same amount as a normal roll every couple of months to outright pick a non-limited character so the whole "lootbox" argument doesn't hold up there. The "muh it's just jpgs" argument doesn't hold up, there's always actual gameplay you use these characters in and no replying with

The gacha in AL is more bark then bite. You get a good amount of free shit plus you have a passive income. The rates on rolls are decent (7% for SR) and like 90% of botes can be gotten just by playing the story/campaign.

The thing is not a lot of genres suit Fate. The big selling point of the franchise at this point is so many likeable characters with interesting fighting styles. But you can't make a very in-depth action game with over 30 characters, so that gets compromised and we get a musou (Extella which sucks). Gacha games with PVP releases content that has powercreep. So, even if you have the best unit available, the game will fuck you over because they will be obsolete and overshadowed by newer units. and the game will give you less chance to get them, because majority of the time, the currency needed to roll the gacha is behind the PVP, meaning the whales are the one who will hog the currencies, meaning you can't get the currency to roll for the new units, meaning you'll get shitted on PVP. And you will be stuck on that loop forever, unless you spend and become a whale also.
Gachas with no PVP relies on waifuing and story to get you hooked, so unless you wanna catch them all, you can clear its content without paying for money
