Too bad the Japanese are the only ones supporting the genre as all their dungeon crawler games, except a few, are just derivative and mediocre.

But I am, I'm bumbling through DT2-2 without knowing Japanese trying to get by just deciphering the skill and item names written with Katakana.

Because most of them suck. Grimrock, Brandish, and Zelda/Zelda-clones are the only good dungeon games.

>Grimrock
Thought you said Grimoire, utterly disappointed in you, faggot

Grimoire, and any other DRPG that uses random battles, is 100% shit.

While I do agree those are good dungeon games, they certainly aren't anywhere near the only good ones.

Play it in nip then, it's not that hard if you're used to the interface from DT2
snes version? or some later port?

I played all the good western ones and most of the japanese crawlers miss the mark.

Etrian Odyssey is the only good pure dungeon crawler series that still gets games

>that still gets games

>pure
>doesn't even have proper dungeons
c'mon. EO is only good for the party building and combat, but the dungeons are trash.

user we just recently got a new game. or did you not hear about nexus

Recommend me some pc dungeon crawlers, weeb or not
I want to get into the genre but don't know where to start

The series is dead now with the 3DS, it won't be getting any new games.

Lands of Lore

Because there's no new ones that I like and I'm playing Underrail again.
Call me when Starfish makes a new Elminage and we can talk.

They already made a teaser for the next game.

the absolute state of this nigga

Waiting for a good one to come out. Labyrinth of Refrain was good, but rubbed me wrong in a lot of ways. Contracts were good at first but became a serious nuissance since you end up with a ton of junk ones and you have to hope you get a good one. Reinforcements keep you on a short lease and make the game feel like phoneshit if you aren't using them.

Dungeon Travelers 2 is a meaty game. I don't understand why they made the pacing so glacial. Cheese, Yea Forums approved builds, whatever else, takes forever to make meager progress. Then the post game kicks you in the balls repeatedly.

I'm pissed NISA never issued the proper updates to people bought the original Stranger of Sword City. The original release was busted beyond belief, but I wasn't paying $30 for revisited after I already paid for the special edition.

For all of its jank, I wanted to see MeiQ get a sequel.

Attached: 1420177771641.gif (500x334, 982K)

i liked the dungeons a lot, outside of nexus, 1 and maybe 4

really hope it's not gacha bullshit.

it's just me or that looks like rance?

final dragon chronicle guilty requiem

ma nigga

i am guessing porn game

>I'm pissed NISA never issued the proper updates to people bought the original Stranger of Sword City. The original release was busted beyond belief, but I wasn't paying $30 for revisited after I already paid for the special edition.
I preferred the original release over revisited where I felt the new classes where OP and broken but I'm a piracychad on Vita and free-by-beta-key on PC so I probably would've felt differently if I had payed for the game

Kinda, It's the doujin game ToHeart2: Dungeon Travelers are based on.

neat. whats the worse fetish in it

too grindy

But I am.

Attached: unknown.png (1920x1080, 2.06M)

that's a nice bugbear genocide simulator, to bad no other games were made in that engine.

The plan was to adapt multiple modules using the engine but Atari is shit.

I know

And that's a good thing

it's called labyrinth of refrain
maybe aquaplus will port DT2 and 2-2 to switch one day and EXP will move onto that console as well

Dungeon Traveler for Switch when?
Would buy.

I feel like EXP gets worse and worse with every game, the peaked with GenerationXTH and MeikyuXblood

this
after taking the Wizardry pill, EO level design looks like out of Final Fantasy.

Get Mary Skelter, it soo fucking good bros

Attached: Mary-Skelter-2_05-10-19.jpg (600x337, 115K)

Wizardry and Elminage far above other crawlers when it comes to dungeon desigen especially Wizardry Empire 1 and 2, 3 felt a bit barebones

alright anons
where do i start with wizardry

How does it compare to MeiQ, which I found very uninspired when it came to everything except art.

1, obviously.

because its fucking boring

Play every Wizardry game except for 4 which is a meme. Then take the Xeenpill

Attached: Xeen.png (960x800, 584K)

Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord if you want true original Sir-Tech Wizardry, Elminage Original if you want something more modern to ease you in to that style of game

The Xeen games had such nice art, I wish NWC did more games in that style, Heroes II is kinda similar art

sounds like fun, i'll get started with the first today
thanks bros

Keep in mind with Wizardry you're expected to draw your own maps. You can use something like grid cartographer or load in an automapper program.

Never played Revisited, but it sounds like they at least tried to make it playable. The issues with the original were legion.
The pacing at the start was painfully slow. Having to spend 8 hours not to die to random mooks without running back to base to recharge wasn't fun at all. It was somewhat forgivable.
Multiclassing could be broken, if the game didn't check you at the engine nerf the shit out of you. Game bosses didn't get the same checks. Made fighting human type multiclassers miserable.
The shop was useless and ill-designed. At the start, you can't afford anything useful. Then once you finally have money, nearly all the consumables you actually need are game-wide limited stock with two, maybe 3 refills. Stuff you needed required farming, which leads to..
The permadeath system was a pain in the dick. If you got side-swiped by a boss unprepared since you were farming, or underleveled, even running would be a risk. Actually losing your mean team would be a huge loss since base XP was dinky. Healing battle wounds would take forever.
Eventually, I had enough when the marathon levels just kept getting piled on.

How is Labyrinth of Refrain compared to other modern dungeon crawlers?

meiq is unironically a better game
dungeon design is about the same but combat is far more generic and unchallenging
and it doesn't even have a good OST like meiq did

>the peaked with GenerationXTH and MeikyuXblood
What makes them better than their current games? Not that it takes much to be better, but I'm interested

the emulator to download is np2fmgen.7z
the right executable np21nt.exe

elaborate, what makes it different
i'm willing to give it a shot but if it's a worse version i won't bother

I couldn’t finish grimrock 2
I don’t really like the real time combat thing as I’m not fast enough to click everywhere
Any recommendations? Already done with eo

what are the best games I can play on pc? I already played
>wizardry 8
>darkest dungeon
>bunny black 2
>etrian odyssey 2-5
>7th dragon 2020

>etrian odyssey 2-5
labyrinth of refrain coven of dusk maybe?

Stranger of Sword city is p good.

anyone play the lost child? looks like it could be a neat SMT knock-off

harder enemies earlier, more useful multi-classing, no onscreen unlimited automap and your character had a chance to turn to ash when being resurrected.

Should I buy tits labyrinth for switch? refrain of blablabla looks interesting too, but I'm very inexperienced with dungeon crawlers... moeiro chronicles on PS vita is a fond experience. are these games even for me lol, what kinda taste one should have for this genre? fun in grinding for gear for example?
plox help

Elminage Original or Elminage Gothic, Gothic is harder and the first dungeons are kinda shity but then it turns into the best Wizardry derived crawler you've ever played

I don’t know what it is about that game that turns me off, maybe the fact that units get gored and decapitated, some newly designs also look unnerving as fuck

I knew the first one from PSVita, good game.

Waiting for EO.

if you like mystery dungeons and tiddies, sure

>Mary Skelter
>good
It had a lot of good designs and idea, but hell if the implementation and gameplay wasn't half assed. There was absolutely no thought put into classes or changing them. The bulk of them have overlapping skills (which each has to be individually powered up if you wanted to us them). All the girls have all the classes so there is no reason to pick one over the other. Skelter mode was interesting, but felt more like punishment for being aggressive. Some of those real-time puzzles were genuinely annoying.

Elminage Original, it's closer to Wizardry then EO and can feel a bit clunky in the beginning but it's worth getting used to, avoid the US psp release it's translation is fucked

it varies by version, but some like the PC engine or the snes changed a few things, like how much stats you can roll, thieves having an ambush move, automap and so on. Though you could modify a few options to get something closer to the vanilla experience, I guess.
Personally I find the PC98 perfectly playable.

Attached: 1565458866023.png (160x144, 1K)

>It had a lot of good designs and idea, but hell if the implementation and gameplay wasn't half assed.
Sadly, this is every Idea Factory game ever, at least the ones I've played

>To Heart 2 actually got translated to English
Nice

It's kind of on the simple side, but it is a solid dungeon crawler.

Have you played the Experience Inc crawlers? Operation Babel and Abyss are very basic, but fun. Demon Gaze and its sequel are more fleshed out and are pretty great, but these are Vita games.

It did? the VN?

Its hard, its one of those games that just fucks you when it feels like outta nowhere

Operation Babel and Abyss are remakes of Generation XTH 1-3 and the first one is translated on PC and have superior multi classing and encounter design compared to the remake

I've heard. Never had a great experience playing fan patches though.

What kills me is that all the groundwork for a good game is there. They just needed to put the effort in and polish it.

I'm trying to make one.

got to the big bad (I think) in smt soul hackers. Died twice on third phase when I ran out of items. Didn't want to backtrack the whole dungeon to get to an item store or grind.
Then I got busy, this was a couple months ago.

Do I play demon gaze 2 or no?

Attached: ratto.gif (250x319, 3.99M)

Damn MeiQ's soundtrack sounds great, is the game as good?

That artstyle is god awful, if you're going to make a DRPG at least give it recognizable visuals that are unique.

I played a bit of it but it didn't really catch me like I wish it did. Pretty mediocre.
Then again I did drop it, so no idea if it gets better later on. IIRC it's on Vita and Switch so you can pirate it on there if you have one.

not really, it's the standard under developed Compile Heart fare

I remember when I was little, me and my bro found a copy of Wizardry 5(?) For the SNES at a pawn shop in some rinky dink little town while on vacation, and played the ever loving shit out of it together that summer. It didn't come with a manual, and we were too poor for internet back then, so we hand drew all the maps, noted down all the secrets and items, and made a list of what the weird ass spell names did. What a great time.

>the lost child
Starts off good but sucks pretty quickly. Game is on the easy side but has pacing and balancing issues out the whazoo. The art and writing is all over the place. The load times make the game suffering (especially getting hit with a 15s load every time you fall through a floor trap. Levels are decent until you to the end and post game, then it just gets obnoxious.
Wanted to like it so bad since the Switch is short on DRPGs and it has some big names involved, but hell if it didn't fight me tooth and nail.

Attached: 1395011540399.png (800x720, 708K)

DS emulator and Etrian Odyssey.

It's always annoying ass h*ck to get back on an old save file when you no longer can navigate through the maps by muscle memory, more so if the game doesn't have automap

Kill yourself.

I want to get into Etrian Odyssey. Do I start with the remakes? Or are the originals better?

depends on if you use guides while playing for builds, if you want QOL changes of the new games. also if you are willing to emulate

Fuck off retard, that's why EO and even Refrain get discussion more than DT, they're more appealing.

that's how you're supposed to play Wizardry, it's even better if you're esl and young enough to have to guess what most things mean even if it's spelled out for you, I still get that kind of experience playing nip crawler now

start with 3 or 4
4 is the easiest

Is DT1 worth playing or should I go straight to 2?

Someone has to have played it before is it good or not.

Attached: 1548842042568.gif (180x180, 81K)

who even are big DRPG names nowadays? Cleve? I miss Greenberg, Woodhead, Caneghem and Cranford.

I don't own a psvita

DT1 is fine but there's no translation so if you're EOP your best bet is to play DT2 to get used to the interface and system first and go back to DT1 or forward to DT2-2

I'm emulating the PSP versions so no English translation for me either way.

Not as good as the first one, it's basically the same thing but without character creation. All Experience games are very samey.

Well I found the first one fun so I guess i'll give it a go. Thanks lad.

Attached: mashuacute.gif (560x314, 3.58M)

have you played demongays 1 and enjoyed it? if so you'll probably enjoy the 2nd too since it's more of the same, it's a bit shallow and the dungeons are uninspired and empty but the art and music is good.

I tried playing Mary Skelter a while ago but it bored me to death, I used to like Dungeon Crawlers but I think now I don't find them enjoyable anymore.

then you're good to go, consider starting with Final Dragon Chronicle, it's the first dungeon from DT1 on PC with lewder art

Alright, thanks.

Busy watching anime

game?

brogue

Suggest me one on ps4 and i will try it.

Torchlight

Demon Gays II, I don't know what else there is on PS4

Because my seedbox had around a 80% discount if you got a new box with annual payment and it's not running yet.

so i know might and magic gets scifi at the end, but what else does Xeen bring to the table that makes it interesting and fun? also i heard it is abandonware, is that true

ps4 has no games

Look at this sape and laugh

It had one of the big SMT artists IIRC.

which version of the game is superior?

I can translate it. Fuck, I'd love to translate it.
I just can't program for shit and I doubt anyone is willing to reverse engineer this mess for a year or two, even with money on the line.

Attached: 2019-08-01-070602.jpg (960x544, 39K)

3ds is faster and has better QOL stuff, but has some bugs as well. Whether or not you like the new art is subjective.

If you just want to beat it you can skip like 80% of the game.

Because I want to finish FE3H before my mana collection gets here.

how?

>PC
>etrian
with an emulator, you mean?

No, that's because EO is a long-running franchise and Refrain is from a popular developer, while DT is a single game on a dead platform.
Retarded dumbass.

Mary Skelter is just a bad game, dude

First, go to the elevator on X10Y8. You can skip to the 4th floor from there.

Attached: map1-01.gif (560x560, 33K)

I keep meaning to play an Etrian Odyssey game but I always get caught up in trying to make "perfect" decisions instead of just playing.

Now, go to X12Y14, you'll meet a group of enemies. It's a pretty tough fight for a low level party, but after you kill them you can head to X11Y10, where you can get an item that you grant you access to the elevator on X10Y0. From there you can go directly to the 9th floor.

Attached: map1-04.gif (560x560, 30K)

their is no perfect decision. as long as your not doing all medics or something you are fine. also plenty of op build guides for most of the games

I'd rather not follow a guide, sort of defeats the point in a game like this.

Why would I play an RPG dungeon crawler when I could play a a roguelike for a deeper and more challenging experience?

I can't stand to play dungeon crawlers if they don't have good graphics and music.

then like i said, don't worry about perfection. just try try try again

You can do this right after you start of the game, but it's highly recommended you grind for a while before trying it. The safest way to level up is killing the Murphy's Ghost on X13Y5, a weak respawning enemy that gives a good amount of experience. You can warp to that area from X19Y9.

wizardry with those optimum speedrun methods and new game plus strategies

Imagine not having 1000+ hours in binding of isaac

I've only played a part of the first one. Is the second game any better? The first one got extremely easy and repetitive when every random encounter was dealt with the same way by using Amber Red, Giganst and either Disaster Rune or Mortal Force to recover mana every now and then. Against bosses I just spammed random rush or the equivalent.
Dropped it because it got too easy and boring. I did like the setting a lot though.

>I did like the setting a lot though.
You should have finished it for the big twist at the end.

It will never get traction even if it gets ported or a similar game series with a similar style is made.

I might just do that at some point.

i have no plans on playing it, what is the big twist

Why am I not at all surprised the pic you posted was dungeon travelers? Oh that's right, because it's always the same few games over and over again with this genre.

>why do people post the best dungeon crawler when discussing dungeon crawlers

There is no escape or hope as Marchens have covered the whole world

really joggins our noggins huh.
neat. thanks

I wonder if your reading comprehension is really this bad or if you're just pretending you misunderstood so you can shitpost harder.

bumpity boo what are your top psp crawlers

Because I get butthurt when anons discuss good vita exclusives.
I want to be able to emulate.

Did anyone get Moero Chronicle Hyper for the Switch? Want to know if it's worth it.

The only two I recall playing offhand are Elminage Original and Unchained Blades. Elminage Original is really good, while Unchained Blades is mediocre.

>Unchained Blades is mediocre
Agreed, it had a lot of experimental stuff that didn't pan out and big battles would be a slog. The music was damn good tho.

Unchained Blades had a lot of really cool ideas but the skill system was kind of fucked and while the idea behind the dungeons was really good their actual implementation was lacking.
By skills being fucked I mean them mainly having fixed damage values that didn't really scale as you went through the game, so a lot of skills just stopped being relevant entirely.
Also for a game with interesting tilesets and OK music it's really bad that they chose the blandest tileset+BGM combo for the 100 floor proceduraly generated postgame dungeon that you need to run dozens of times.
I'll get around to the sequel eventually.

You can win Soul Hackers by having a high speed Makarakarn/Tetrakarn caster. I think about 30 speed or a little less is enough to wreck every boss, even Manitou.

I dunno but I should be. Where is the entry into the series? I can read 日本語 if that helps

Attached: 452351235.jpg (960x960, 84K)

I did. It’s the same as the Vita game but with a real English translation. It’s fine as far as dungeon crawlers go. It’s also very easy

Are there any japanese dungeon crawlers where the cast isn't dominated by females?

BIG gay

The SEAglish in the Vita release wasn't bad. I was disappointed in not having an English translation for Crystal at the time due to the ugly spat !F picked with Sony SEA.

For Dungeon Travelers?
You either play To Heart 2 and Another Days, or the PS3 exclusive DX version of TH2, then start with To Heart 2: Dungeon Travelers before moving into Dungeon Travelers 2. Then move onto Dungeon Travelers 2-2 after you're done with 2's postgame unless you plan of buying or pirating the DLC (good luck with the latter, as pirated copies crash with DLC even to this day) in which case playthroughs of 痕(きずあと), all three Utawarerumono games and White Album 2 are required for proper enjoyment.
Ideally you should play Leaf's entire catalogue and certain Aquaplus-only games, but that's the bare minimum you need to get yourself ready. Have fun.

That's Furyu in a nutshell.

So how was that? Same shit as all their other games?

DT2 was originally considered a porn game in its PC release.

whens dt2-2?

DT2 wasn't released for PC. The original DT was bundled with a porn VN though.

secretly i hate that so many good dungeon crawlers end up being porn

Playing Zanki Zero, is my first dungeon crawler, how is Demon Gaze 2? the first was on vita but i dont have vita.

Attached: 1552044808637.jpg (737x1255, 340K)

It's a remake of Students of the Round by updating the system into Stranger of Sword City.

The only new assets made are the character portraits and a few CGs.

For you it probably means it's exactly the same thing again.

>Playing Zanki Zero, is my first dungeon crawler
I'm sorry, user.

DG2 is absolutely great. Expect a straight-forward, tradational DRPG with great music and a very competent post-game.

>try Class of Heroes
>get my shit pushed in during the first dungeons
I think I'm too much of a brainlet to play DRPGs.

Attached: kizuna ai drinku.png (505x670, 338K)

Thanks and why?

Because all the worthwhile ones are on the fucking Vita

>Class of Heroes
That game is really fucking unbalanced

is class of heroes any good? the game seems kind of bland. any good points for the games?

Are there any lewd dungeon crawlers out there for the pc

Mary Skelter

Many of the DRPGs, particularly Wiz-like ones, tend to be tough initially. However things get alright after a couple of levels.

CH's ones are casual-proof: their game design is such that with a bit of extra levels you'll definitely be fine.

Wouldn't know, as I can seem to get far enough to make a fair assessment.

Zanki Zero is pretty good for what it is, I loved the game, although it's a fairly basic dungeon crawler, so people will usually shit on it, but I don't see the problem if it was your first one.

Not him but Zanki Zero has awful gameplay with less depth than a VN. The story might pay off, but I have trouble pushing through it at the moment.

bunny black

CH being Compile Heart just to be clear.

I also wish to know

Every time I want to, I remember I haven't made any progress in necrodancer. And then I can't get anywhere in necrodancer, and I don't feel like playing a dungeon crawler anymore.

It's really meh and you can cheese literally every boss with stunlocks not to mention turn money into exp.

I think most of people shit on it because muh censorship, I also liked it but I think the story kinda falls apart in the latest chapters, but it's a pretty good game IMO.

Zanki Zero is pretty good as a first entry. Hopefully they make a sequel and improve on it.

is it an interesting story for the most part or is it full blown disaster like zero time delima and only salvageable with memes

>Dungeons and Prisoners is fucking dead

Attached: 155563425.jpg (160x160, 8K)

Oh yeah, that censorship bullshit. If the rest of the private events are anything to go by then the content removed was pretty much irrelevant. And yes, it does fall apart near the end but it's still a pretty solid game.

Interesting story for sure and it also ends very cleanly without loose ends.

Should I skip the first Etrian Odyssey?

Maybe no if you intend to play all.

I'd say it starts being interesting, but suddenly the writers had many terrible plot ideas and put them all in the game, it just felt so weird, I think it had potential but decided to fuck it up.
I just think the end wasn't satisfying at all, honestly.

It is pretty interesting and the characters are "deep" and believable so I was really invested in the story, but as always, they fucked up with the "big reveal"

It's my favorite one and I enjoy it more than its remake, the vg general thinks I'm trolling though.

wait for a sale it is. thanks for your honest opinions

thanks, added all that to the backlog

I'm playing Labyrinth of Refrain. Overlord Furfur is fine up until she starts doing the party-wide instakill attacks and double casts the fire AoE every turn. Should I just level more or what?

So there is anything good on the horizon as far as DRPGs go?

A new EO title maybe

When are you fighting her? She's required for the true ending so unless you're close to the final boss of the main story you might be trying to fight her too soon.

Labyrinth of Refrain sequel and the new EO (far, far away on the horizon).

Yeah, I've got a mud exit right on top of the final event spot in Dusken Tanis and I wanted to clear out some stuff in the other dungeons. Wiped to her after I finished Umbra, but I'm averaging upper eighties across the team (minus stragglers in supporter slots) and it feels like every time I get any progress in her fight she decides to chain her strong moves repeatedly and I can't recover from it.

Labyrinth of Galleria

Not really. They have poor combat mechanics and boring dungeons.

Anything for PC without needing an emulator?
I've tried Elminage Original. Pretty fun.

Are there any good short dungeon crawlers that I can complete over this week? Around the 20-30 hour range?

Why would you want a DRPG that is short?
